When used with the optional Peavey Sanpera foot controller, the possibilities further expand from 12 in-amp presets to 400 programmable presets, with an on-board looper and more. The VYPYR amp also acts as its own computer audio interface, with a built-in studio-quality USB 2.0 output on most models that is recognized by computers as an audio device. It's a gamble. You can have an excellent rig-in-one, or you can be teased and disapointed. If you're a beginner. i would recommend getting a Fender Mustang III. If you're an experienced player, I would recommend saving a little more and getting a 22w 1X12 bugera tube amp.
This amp has plenty of effects to play with, even the same effect in different places in the signal path for different tonal and responsive qualities. It has plenty of amp models, much more than a Line 6 Spider or Fender Mustang. The arrangement of the signal path is better than any other modeling amp I've used. And having the delay seperate (with the reverb) is such a nice touch.
The sound quality is Superb. The distortion sounds very organic and the frequency response range is massive. Especially impressive low end. The effects quality doesnt sound as digital as a line 6, about the same quality as a mustang, although less editable. It is quicker to dial in a good usable sound though. The build is fairly sturdy, I took the plastic "fangs" off mine and it looks better. You can always put them back if you need to sell it or something. Overall, a great quality amp, decent for gigs and practices. You'll definitely find many sounds you'll love. The only problem with mine and a few others is that it just stopped working after about a year. I beleive it's a blown fuse, which would be a very quick and easy replacement but here's problem 2: no access to the fuse through the back panel. You have to get inside and find out that its soldered to the circuit board, and then void all warranties you might have had. I would much rather pay an extra $50 for better parts and construction. Peavey really cut back on this one. It's a shame because it's such an excellent amp.
If they didnt have the issues that they have, it would be such a steal. Although editing software would be nice to have.

Simply put, stay away from this one. Save your pennies and find something else and save yourself some time and tears.
I purchased the Vypyr 75 in June of 2010. 4 months later, it developed an annoying high-pitched squeal on the high-gain channels. I had it shipped back for warranty work and three weeks later it was back to normal. Fast forward 4 months, the squeal returns along with some other annoying issues such as no sound from time to time and the need to shut off/turn back on several times to get it working again. Shipped back again in July of 2011. Upon return, it only took about 2 months for the squeal to rear its head again along with the Sanpera pedal no longer working. So ONCE AGAIN, its heading back to Peavey for repair.

While I did like many of the different amp sounds and effects, I too have found that this amp doesn't seem to get any louder past a certain point. Since I play in a band, this has proven to be troublesome on more than one occasion as you can imagine. Factor in the lack of product reliability, this has proven to be a bad purchase, period.

So, my advise is save your money to buy something better. The Fender Mustang amps have all the features of the Peavey Vypyr line and appear to be much more reliable. The bottom line is that the Vypyr line is cheaply made, shoddy, and un-reliable.
As mentioned before, heading for its third warranty repair. That should say enough about the lack of quality here.
For $300, it has a lot of bells and whistles. Too bad the overall package and execution isn't consistent. You're getting what you pay for.

    Wicked Awesome

    By Randall Orme

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 75 75W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

A world of guitar tones, effects, and features rolled into one well built box of awesomeness. It's got everything you'd ever need as a hobby musician, and it's tough enough to take on stage. I don't think anyone could be disappointed with this amp.
The Peavey VYPYR 75 is loaded with features. Between the amp models, rack effects, pedal effects, EQ settings, and everything else included, you have virtually every guitar sound imaginable at your fingertips. I have owned mine for a year, and I've just scratched the surface of what it can do. It would take months of continuous playing to experiment with all of the combinations available. The regular 75 is a solid state model, but it can crank out some convincing tube-like sounds. The "Power Sponge" feature is a nice feature for getting a a great full tone at practice room levels. If you're interested in recording, the USB port on the larger models is a cool feature as well. One of my favorite features is the ability to save 12 of your favorite settings, and going back to any of them with the push of a button. The onboard tuner is a handy feature as well.
There are no corners cut with the VYPYR Series. They are well built, loaded with features and functions, and crank out amazing sound.
I haven't tryed every modeling amp available, but I can't imagine anything better that's anywhere remotely close to this price range.

    Pretty Good

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 75 75W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I give it an 8 on the features because, it may have a lot of effects, but not all of them are usable, or sound good. I haven't had any problems with quality and i've owned mine for about a year now. It seems like a solidly built amp. It's cleans are really nice actually and the distortion is surprisingly good, but not the best. It's does not sound as good as a tube amp, but you don't have any tubes to maintain and its not TOO much worse of a sound that comes out of it. It is overall a fantastic buy, especially for money. and it can get loud! I never bought the footswitch that goes along with it. I bet i would enjoy the amp more if I did. Still pretty sweet.I haven't had any problems with quality and i've owned mine for abouta year now. It seems like a solidly built amp.

    Not Worth The Money.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 75 75W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is decent, I've had it for over a year. It has a lot of different sounds, they're just all "Ehhh..." It can get you close to a bunch of recognizable sounds, but no matter what you do, you will not and can not be satisfied, if you've played a solid tube amp before. If you're looking for a practice amp, just get the 15w one, then save the 200 towards a better tube amp down the road. I wish I had done that. I'd be $200 closer to my Orange.

    One More Thing

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 75 75W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Sorry to post another review, but I left off some stuff. The headphone out sounds AWFUL and compressed with any headphones I've used, including 100 dollar Sennheiser HD-280s, Dr Dre Beats, and Bose. The recording out is pretty bad too. It's not as compressed as the phones out, but it sounds wrong. Mic'ing would be much better if you have a mic.

    Don't bother

    By Ropski

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 75 75W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp about a year ago. You can get some decent sounds out of it, and it is very loud. But if the volume knob worked any better it would be a 90 year old man with ED. It has a pretty limited tone, OK distortion, horrible reverb and echo. It has cool effects, but other than that this amp sounds worse than my 15watt crate going through a Ibanez Smashbox. Literally. The input sometimes just cuts out, picks up radio stations, or just buzzes and crunches for no reason whatsoever. Do not bother buying this amp.Overall if you are able to spend more money on an amp, DO IT. I would never ever buy this amp again let alone recommend it.

    Don't Waste Your Money

    By Anonymous

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 75 75W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this for 350 bucks a local guitar shop. I don't know why! I can't stand this amp. First off, all the amp models sound the same! The "classic" models all sound the same and the "modern" models sound the same! And if you're into old death metal with lots of distortion, prepare to be disapointed. This thing does not have near enough gain as it should and even with the mids all the way down, it's SUPER muddy! I can barely get a pinch harmonic playing through this thing! Another thing, the stupid digital processor will cut out from time to time! Something as simple as changing a preset will make it freeze and you have to turn it off and then back on! I don't even like effects besides reverb and delay so I'm not even going to go over all the pointless effects. In short, if you like poseur metal(Avenged Sevenfold, Pull It For My Valentine, Disturbed) you will love this. If you like REAL metal, don't waste your time and money on this crap.
