I own the Vypyr 75 the VIP 2 and now the VIP 3. I am particular about sound and feel. I own tube amps. I have more than 7 modeling amps. If you like metal such as Pink Floyd, Satriani, Steve Vai,Van Halen Toto, Boston, Gary Moore, all of 80s Metal, this is the amp for you. The included Triple x amp is the best articulate and balanced metal sound I have used. The 6534 is the fattest lead tone I have ever used. The Twin is darn good and with chorus and compression it does a fabulous 12 string. The Acoustic amps are great and the acoustic SIM is exceptional. Most metal factory presets are set too hot in g.It really sounds like a top of the line tube amp cranked except that the sweet spot stays sweet and the bass stays tight. TUBE AMPS GET FLUBBY BASS WHEN CRANKED. This amp has booming power and sounds more like 60 watts, not 40 watts, like it is rated and it is very light and portable. Sounds like the VIP 3 but half the volume. The best for smooth distortion and cutting edge tube response. Better than tubes in my opinion. Tubes fluctuate with room temperature and overheat when cranked then clearity becomes compressed. The VIP 3 is of course the choice for a live band but the VIP 2 is loud enough if you Mic it. I visit my local store GC and this is my choice to audition guitars. It always gets a flabbergasted look from store clerks and customers. I have sold many of these VIP s just by playing them in the store. The VIP series is the most versatile and easy to use amp ever. The Free Peavy software editor Librarian makes it very easy to save as many patches as you wish but you can save any type of 24 patches in the amp. Trust me that this is enough but those tweaker that need more get the VIP 3 since it has 400 user editable pay he's and runs on the same software. The Acoustic amp SIM is really good for acoustic and the AC SIM is very good. The impedance is perfectly adjusted for Acoustic. Consider the VIP 3 if you need it in a band otherwise it is a great amp.

I have had two of these. Both came with broken corner protectors(not available from peavey until Jan 2014).Good for electric and acoustic guitar.
Both amps were not good for bass as there is a lot of distortion on low bass notes, only good at low volume. I would have liked a smaller cabinet.

I do not recommend this amp for bass players.

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Played this amp in a music store and it was loud and versatile. The Delay and reverb was very nice. The feel of it was very tubelike as I have a Fender Twin Tube Amp. I really thought the amp models for Acoustic guitar were really good. The triple x amp was as good as others have said and I use it as the cleanest setting to run pedals into it. I use a Zoom G1xon multi effects pedal. It sounds great and I think it really sounds like a great tube amp. The G1xon really compliments this amp. I do agree that the pedal to operate it is out of my price range but I really like a multi effects pedal in conjunction with it. Oh when I am using a metal setting like the 6505 which is very Van Halen I can reduce gain from my guitar with my multi effects G1xon. It really is an inexpensive pedal with super pro sound. Nice pair together and I am totally happy.

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

does a lot of things, but does none of them well. Cheap amp, cheap sound. This is not an amp I would use on a gig, too complicated even with the pedal. If you want a pro amp, stay away from this one. I bought it for studio use and it does not even do that well. It just sounds cheesy. But what did I expect for the price.

Every thing sounds cheesy, effects, amp models, all of it. And as far as playing bass thru this thing, FORGET ABOUT IT.....

The only thing that sounds decent is the acoustic guitar settings. And they are just that; decent, not great.

I would return to Musicians Friend but the shipping and restocking fee would cost too much.

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Ok, I've had this amp for awhile and can say it's awesome. That being said, there are two things I've noticed. The first thing is that this is a 40 watt amp, yet the Vypyr 30 seems to be louder. At least at lower volumes. If you put both amps at 2 or 3, the Vypyr 30 is louder. Weird, but no big deal as this 40 watter is still plenty loud enough. The second issue is a sound issue, and, as we all know, sound is subjective to each individual. Anyway, I noticed much more bass from this amp than the Vypyr 30. This is fine at low volumes, but when you start to turn it up it starts to drown out the mids and treble, becoming "boomy" and a bit muddy, at least to my ears. This disappointed me. I then decided to "unport" the amp by taking the back off of it. I have to say IMHO this amp sounds awesome now, much more clear than it did before. It still has more bass than the Vypyr 30 and, since Peavey added compression to the distortion as the volume increases, this thing sounds very close to the amps being modeled, closer than the Vypyr 30 does. It now sounds good when turning it up loud. I would imagine if you use the amp with a bass you would want to put the back back on, but for guitar it's perfect! Of course, this is my opinion, yours may vary, but if you have this amp and find it to be bass heavy and lacking in clarity try "unporting" it as I did, it may make the difference for you.

The cabinet on unit I bought resonated/vibrated very loudly on any notes below 'A' even at very modest volume settings.
Modelling is limited to 2 options for Bass.
Many of the effects are either not available or not well suited to Bass.
IMO Peavey has oversold the functionality for multi-instrument use.

This amp is the diggity. I play both bass and guitar so this is a dream come true for me. It has 6 different bass amps and tons of great guitar tones. The bass amp actually sounds better then my Hartke rig. Endless possibilities and I just used it today as an Acoustic amp....Crazy! I like the guitar sounds as you can get this thing screaming with gai if you want. Thanks Peavey!!

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

THE PEAVEY VYPYR VIP SERIES : Was in the market for a small practice amp with nice warm tones and good clean sound and tube over drive. But not looking to spend obscene amounts of money on a 15 watt boutique amp. Did some pretty extensive on line research and was really impressed by what I saw and read and heard about the Peavey Vypyr Series, When I was younger and gigging the club circuits, I was all about the Racks and Stacks and Tube Heads, i.e. Marshall 800, Carvin x-100, Chandler Tube driver, ADA MP-1, Tube Screamer, Distortion +...pretty sure you can guess what decade that was....lol....So I purchased a Used VIP-2 from Musicians Friend with one year warranty and free shipping for One-hundred and fifty dead presidents. Never ordered a amp on line let alone a used one before. Got it today (one of the plastic corner guards was missing- seems this is very common and a constant complaint, hell I saved seventy-five dead presidents off the price of a mint condition amp and mine still had the UPC sticker and the info sheet on the grill and the power cord was still sealed in the bag) Anyway this lil sucker right outta the box, plug in and instant TONE, Check out all the on-line reviews and you tube vids on this amazing amp, (The Tone Kings reviews were especially helpful in my decision, THANK YOU) bang 4 the buck FIVE STARS ! One Wicked Piece of Gear !

After owning the Peavey Vypyr 30, I had to give this amp a shot. The fact that it carries bass, and acoustic amp modeling is what sold me on the VIP 2. Instead of having to jack into this amp and that, while recording, plus getting really good sound quality... Is terrific!
I have started culling the herd of amps that I own as a result. Though this amp, compared to the Vypyr 30 is more of a Peavey related product, in regards to the many Peavey models on board. Where the Vypyr 30, covers a wider range of amp models.

The VIP 2 has some different effects, such as Sitar, resonater etc... Which are very Cool! I'm stil learnng as I go, but am enjoying the process!

The amp is reasonably priced but is incomplete without the optional pedal. No way the looper functions without an additional purchase which you aren't aware of until you read the manual that comes with it. Clean and punchy sound.

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Peavey has good rep for making excellent products. This amp is definitely one of them. With the exception of the plastic corners on the amp and the packaging. The plastic corners are so cheaply made and so brittle. So far, I am on my second amp (awaiting a third exchange from Musician's Friend). The first amp arrived with 4 out of 8 corners broken. The second amp arrived with 3 out of 8 corners broken. Just to give an example of how cheap and brittle the corners are: I was dusting the top of my amp with my hand and one of the plastic corners broke. I was screwing on one of the plastic corners and it disintegrated as the screw got tighter.

I realize that these plastic corners are cosmetic, but still, Peavey needs to step up their quality. I wouldn't be surprised if these amps left the factory already cracked on the plastic corners from the screws.

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Was overall impressed with this amp. I already own the older gen Vypyr15 so I was already familiar with the controls etc. There is an improvement in sound quality overall, but where this amp really shines is the ORANGE CHANNEL of each model... the clean and dirty are both great, but the medium gain channels are really warm, very articulate, and even though I have not heard the Tube equivalents of ALL the models, only some, the sounds are amazing. The acoustic models are beautiful also, was very surprised. I was rather disappointed with the 7string and Baritone models (a feature I was eager to use). Like another reviewer I find there to be a chorus like effect that cant be turned off or down that envelopes the model, making those two lower tuning simulations unusable. But overall, the quality and sound still destroy the competition at this price point by far. The edit software is a nice bonus, very cool. I am a happy customer

I do not usually write reviews, but this amp impressed me so much that I felt I should. I pre-ordered this before there were hardly any reviews so I took a bit of a gamble. Just had it delivered to my doorstep today (06/28/13) and I am loving it. I did not know it had a built in tuner, but it came in handy as I could not find my battery powered unit. I love the variety of sounds, and the way you can play multiple guitar types with one unit. overall it seems like a very solid unit, highly recommended.

I already have the Fender Mustang II combo amp but i was wanting to try out another 40 watt combo amp so i picked up this Peavey Vypyr VIP-2 and so far i really like it. Just as LOUD as the mustang and alot of different presets and tones to chose from. I like that you can also use it with a bass and acoustic guitar. The only thing i don't like is that you need to buy the Sanpera foot pedal to access the looper. But i already knew that going in and i plan on buying it. Plus i think the Fender Fuse software that comes with the Mustang is better. But this is a solid practice amp that could also be used at small venues. So what one is better? Seriously, both are pretty much equal you cannot go wrong with either one for the price.

I really wanted a tube amp, but I just don't have the money at this point in my life. So, I did a ton of reserch searching for the best solid state amp with the closest sound quality to a tube amp. It seemed like everyone on the internet said Line 6 Spider, but when I played them in person, they sounded thin and digital. Yeah, they have a ton of presets, but they suck. The Peavy Vypyr Series is pretty amazing though. It might not have all the presets like the Line 6 Spiders, but the sound quality is MUCH better! Even though it isn't quite as good as a tube amp, for under 200, you cannot beat it though. It is the best guitar amplifier for classic rock to heavy metal out there for under 500. Go try one out and see.

I LOVE THIS AMPLIFIER. THE ONLY 2 DOWNSIDES TO IT IS VERY LIMITED WITHOUT THE SANPERA-I AND SANPERA-II. THE OTHRER IS SOME OF THE STOMPBOX EFFECTS DOES NOT HAVE A QUALITY THAT I EXPETED FOR AN AMPLIFIER. 12 STRINGS, SUCKS. 7 STRINGS, TOO MUCH LOW AND BASS, I TRY ALMOST EVERY TUNE I CAN GET FROM IT BUT OH WELL. AS OF THE EFFECTS, PRE-GAIN, POST GAIN AND IN BETWEEN ALL, VERY WELL BALANCE. AS OF THE ACOUSTIC SECTION, DUDE! IT'S BEAUTIFUL! SO LIMITED BUT IT'S VERY BEAUTFIUL. ELECTRIC QUALITY GIVE ME A BIG SURPRISE. I AM A ROCKER/METAL FAN HERE AND I AM PICKY ABOUT MY SOUNDS.

EVEN THOUGH, IT'S A CHEAP WAY FOR SPENDING MONEY ON A LIMITED SOURCE TO BUY THE EXTENTION FOR IT BUT I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY FOR WHAT I HAVE.

I have found this to be a very versatile practice amp. It sounds good at low volume and with the editing capabilities there hasn't been a guitar sound I haven't been able to imitate. Does it sound as good as some more expensive amps? No, but for this price and what I use it for I have been very happy with it. The only trouble I've had with it is it doesn't want to connect to my PC to use as an interface. I am eager to get the Sanpera 2 foot controller that works with this amp, too bad the pedal is more expensive than the amp, and used pedals seem to be hard to find.
I purchased this as a restock item and one corner bracket was cracked, a common problem, but unimportant. It took me 3 days after buying the amp to even notice it.

I would give this amp 4.5/5 stars.

This amp is more than what I expected. It has way more edit features than what I will ever use, and the quality of the sound & ability to adjust the tone is amazing. I have no complaints about the quality of the amp, but it did get damaged in shipping transit and I worry about what may have gotten damaged inside. The outside box looked like it had been gorilla tested, the corners of the amp are all broken & fabric is torn. I started to return it, but because I got it under the "free shipping" option coupled with the cost of shipping it back, plus insurance & compliance with the rest of the return policy, it would not be economically feasible. I am better off to use it as it is, hoping it doesn't fail due to the obvious shipping abuse, and replace it as needed. Overall, it is a great versitle amp for bass, acoustic electric or electric guitar.
