Ok, I've had this amp for awhile and can say it's awesome. That being said, there are two things I've noticed. The first thing is that this is a 40 watt amp, yet the Vypyr 30 seems to be louder. At least at lower volumes. If you put both amps at 2 or 3, the Vypyr 30 is louder. Weird, but no big deal as this 40 watter is still plenty loud enough. The second issue is a sound issue, and, as we all know, sound is subjective to each individual. Anyway, I noticed much more bass from this amp than the Vypyr 30. This is fine at low volumes, but when you start to turn it up it starts to drown out the mids and treble, becoming "boomy" and a bit muddy, at least to my ears. This disappointed me. I then decided to "unport" the amp by taking the back off of it. I have to say IMHO this amp sounds awesome now, much more clear than it did before. It still has more bass than the Vypyr 30 and, since Peavey added compression to the distortion as the volume increases, this thing sounds very close to the amps being modeled, closer than the Vypyr 30 does. It now sounds good when turning it up loud. I would imagine if you use the amp with a bass you would want to put the back back on, but for guitar it's perfect! Of course, this is my opinion, yours may vary, but if you have this amp and find it to be bass heavy and lacking in clarity try "unporting" it as I did, it may make the difference for you.

does a lot of things, but does none of them well. Cheap amp, cheap sound. This is not an amp I would use on a gig, too complicated even with the pedal. If you want a pro amp, stay away from this one. I bought it for studio use and it does not even do that well. It just sounds cheesy. But what did I expect for the price.

Every thing sounds cheesy, effects, amp models, all of it. And as far as playing bass thru this thing, FORGET ABOUT IT.....

The only thing that sounds decent is the acoustic guitar settings. And they are just that; decent, not great.

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

This is the greatest amp i have ever used hands down. I have tried it all, marshall, mesa boogie, fender, peavey, you name it. Ive heard and tested all popular amps and guitars and this amp beats em in versatility and tone and sometimes i feel even in volume as i cant seem to get it past 6 without almost vomiting from the shear vibrations and noise factor. Used to have a half stack 100 watt and cranked it past 7 and it was only half as loud as this, bareable even.

Technology has come a long way. This is the pinnacle. Best of the best

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I already have the Fender Mustang II combo amp but i was wanting to try out another 40 watt combo amp so i picked up this Peavey Vypyr VIP-2 and so far i really like it. Just as LOUD as the mustang and alot of different presets and tones to chose from. I like that you can also use it with a bass and acoustic guitar. The only thing i don't like is that you need to buy the Sanpera foot pedal to access the looper. But i already knew that going in and i plan on buying it. Plus i think the Fender Fuse software that comes with the Mustang is better. But this is a solid practice amp that could also be used at small venues. So what one is better? Seriously, both are pretty much equal you cannot go wrong with either one for the price.

I fixed the rattling by drilling two additional screw to the back of the amp. Sounds great now.
It could also be fixed by using silicone adhesive to stop rattle.

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I am a 53 year old newbie. Just got my Epi Les Paul Standard about two months ago. Was playing through an old 10 watt practice amp. My wife bought me this for Christmas. It has been an adventure in exploring new sounds and techniques. Learning how to play doesnt mean it has to be boring.

There is an amazing array of amps/functions to choose from. All coming from a beautiful sounding amp. My only complaint is that even with the volume on 1 it is still a little loud. I play at home so I do have to be considerate of others. Plugging in headphones is an option.

Next decision is whether or not to buy the stomp pedal. I think until I learn to play better I will wait.

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

The cabinet on unit I bought resonated/vibrated very loudly on any notes below 'A' even at very modest volume settings.
Modelling is limited to 2 options for Bass.
Many of the effects are either not available or not well suited to Bass.
IMO Peavey has oversold the functionality for multi-instrument use.

Really love this amp it has a lot of features, and versatility, just got it and I am still figuring out all of its ins and outs.Planning on pairing it with one of the sanpera pedals. I can plug in either my guitar or my bass and it sounds great either way. I really like the 7string setting on it.I use it the most.Overall really enjoy it.

Comments about Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I'm not a professional musician, nor do I have plans to be. I have played guitar and other fretted instruments for some time, and have some experience with cheap practice amps. This little guy is great fun, and should work perfectly when I'm playing music with my friends for fun, though probably not for a live performance at anything bigger than a house party or coffee shop. I have no intention of playing live, so no worries for me. The effects are a lot of fun (I can make my a/e mandolin sound pretty epic) and its loud enough to cut through my buddy's heavy drumming. Its not great for bass at high volume, sounds/feels like it will rattle apart or blow the speaker, or both. Also has a weird echo on most settings when I mute. Not the greatest sound reproduction when playing acoustic, but its decent and a lot cheaper than most quality acoustic guitar amps out there. Plus it has a lot of extra little things that you can do that just make it a great deal of fun, and practical for someone like me who plays lots of different instruments and styles with friends in a very not-professional(at all)-type setting. Overall very satisfied. *NOTE* Despite purchasing new, it came with one corner protector crumbled and a very small blemish on the top. Very minor, hard to notice and doesn't affect performance / doesn't really matter, but these are things that make me think "blemished/dent & scratch/floor model." Again, all things considered I'm a happy picker.
