OVERVIEW

The classic sound of English rock made affordable.

The Windsor Tube Amp Head employs three 12AX7 preamp tubes and four EL34 power-amp tubes in a single-channel configuration to deliver 100W of the sound of rock's golden era with exclusive Peavey technology and reliability.

While most amplifiers leave the EQ to the preamp section, the Windsor features Peavey's patented Presence and Resonance controls, which adjust speaker damping from tight to loose in the high and low frequency ranges, respectively. The Windsor also offers Peavey's patent-pending Texture circuitry for adjusting the response characteristics from modern Class A/B push-pull to vintage Class A sounds. The Texture control provides incremental adjustment for an incredible range of tone texturing and coloring.

The Windsor also features a footswitchable gain boost, three-band rotary EQ on the preamp, master volume, footswitchable effects loop and high and low inputs.

ValveKing 412 Cabinet - Straight Front
The all-birch ValveKing Series 412 Cab features 4 - 12" ValveKing speakers, dual input jacks, rear-mounted speakers, and 400W continuous power handling.

PEOPLE, THIS AMP WILL GET CLEAN WITH DIFFERENT TUBES. **READ**First, the ValveKing cab. It's really great. Lot's of low end punch for palm muting, screaming highs, good mids. Very high quality cab, I would put it up against my Mesa 212 any day.I spent the better part of the day trying out different pre-amp tube combinations for this Peavey Windsor head. My goal was to obtain a useable clean sound without losing a lot of gain crunch/roar.After testing different tubes in different locations, this is the best sound the amp will ever make without mods IMO.V1 (closest to input jack)- Leave the 12ax7 JJ tube in it?s place. You need the full gain power of a 12ax7 for the marshall roar.V2 (next to V1)- I used an Electro-Harmonix 12ay7 tube to lower the gain in V2, thus making the cleans easier to obtain without losing crunch.V3 (next to EL34's) - I used an Electro-Harmonix 12at7 to smooth out the entire sound of the amp. This takes the harshness away providing a much more smooth and useable tone throughout all volumes. The amp now sounds amazing. You can get perfect clean tones by setting the pre-amp to 2 and using the master for clean volume. there is a very small hint of breakup at pre-amp 3. Setting at 6 will give you nice warm crunch, all the way to 12 will give you the marshall roar without the fizziness. These simple swaps will completely smooth out the tone of this amp, and take away the harsh fizzy distortion. I love this amp and it's simplicity. If you're looking for that Marshall Roar on a budget, look no further. The price for this head AND a 412 VK cab is amazing.

I bought this amp for my home practice space so I could leave my road amp stocked. Ok its cheap and should of expected that it wouldn't be much. The sound out of it was workable and yes its not the cleanest, but should be able to kink some things to what you want, besides this rig is not for live show. That said I had an issue with it blowing the main fuse inside the head had replaced and it did it again. It may be a tube gone bad and shorted a diode, but it was so cheap I trashed it and bought a different (bogner) amp head. the 4x12 has no issues thats if its for practicing and not live.

Peavey Winsor W/Valve King 4x12 cab.

Comments about Peavey Windsor Head and ValveKing Cab Half Stack:

great amp there isn't much of a clean sound but you can get it with the pre amp around 2 hopefully tubes change that. After that whach out total Marshall tone for 1/4th of the price this thing was meant to play dirty/ distorted.I leave It on clean and use a pedal board BOSS pedals DS1 and metal zone It sounds good but loose a little volume with the effects loop have the pedals Level maxed and still loose a little volume. I haven't tryed to run them through the input yet. But you don't even need pedals with this amp if you play mostly distorted it has great sound and tone all by its self I play a lot of clean songs and don't want to be changing the setting on the amp after every song so I use the effects loop and boss pedals. For the money you can't buy a better TUBE amp.you can spent thousands of dollars and not get anything better than this combo. Compares to Marshell ao Orange Tone.any questions look me up on Y.

decent amp for the price

Comments about Peavey Windsor Head and ValveKing Cab Half Stack:

it's not too bad of an amp, i played this at a friend's house rather than haul my gear across town every day. this amp has a nice distortion and gets pretty loud, but seems to be a one-trick pony. by that i mean no useable clean, it had a clean sound similar to 5fdp "the bleeding" intro. i have no idea if my friend had bad tubes or what but i'd really recommend playing one before dropping close to 1k on it. it handles distortion well, so if your looking for just that style of tone, go for it

classic amp

Comments about Peavey Windsor Head and ValveKing Cab Half Stack:

I love this amp,for the money you cant buy better. That being said can you buy a better amp?yes cheeper? no.I wanted a simple amp like a 59 b*ssm*n but louder. It has a great natural distortion sound. And the reviews saying no cleans?I play a str*t(low gain pickups)have the pre amp on 6 and the volume on 6 and its clean.el34s are not going to be as clean as a 6l6 amp.One secret to more clean is to roll back the volume on your guitar 1 or 2 notches.I have never had trouble out of the amp or the cab.If i had alot of extra money i would buy another so i would have the full stack and a back up head.

Comments about Peavey Windsor Head and ValveKing Cab Half Stack:

Sounded good on you tube so I bought it. But it is harsh on the high end and muddy and flabby on the low end. Not tight and warm like a JCM 800. It does sound great with a distortion pedal or modeling pedal board. I should have Spent $500 on the Bugera 1990 it blows the Windsor away.

A solid deal for the money

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Peavey Windsor Head and ValveKing Cab Half Stack:

I bought the Windsor head sight unseen a while back. It appeared to be similar to the Mk II Marshalls from the 70s or maybe a JCM 800. I feel that it breaks up too early, making it very difficult to get really clean tones. The distortion was punchy and hard-hitting, similar to Marshall, but a bit fizzy when muting the strings. The resonance control seemed to do nothing. Maybe the amp must be cranked. I decided to sell it. Later I found people on Youtube who changed out certain tubes or modded the amp in different ways. I was impressed! Maybe I could have done the same, but I'm happy with my current American made amp. Listen, for 500 bucks, you wont find a better deal than this for an all-tube amp with a really good cabinet. I guess they are bailing on the Windsor. Peavey is known for reliability and value, however, they sure got alot of skeletons in the closet! LOL Try it out if you want. Replace tubes and experiment. Some love this amp. I've had better.

Great Tube Amp

By BHermz

from MD

Comments about Peavey Windsor Head and ValveKing Cab Half Stack:

This is by far my favorite amp out of several others. Don't let the limited effects stop you from considering this one. Get at least one tube amp. For the value this one is very tough to beat. The sound is robust and simply great for southern rock styles. I have considered doing some modifications, but with an effects box and proper settings I get more than I need.

No clean sound to be found

By JesseRay

from Long Island, NY

Comments about Peavey Windsor Head and ValveKing Cab Half Stack:

Cannot get a clean sound out of this amp. You have to keep the pre-amp setting as low as you can possibly make it- and even at that it is still somewhat dirty and you have virtually no volume.. I guess this is a Heavy Metal amp and I was looking for a Blues amp... The half stack is quite good.
