Comments about Pedal Pad MPS XL II Tour Series Powered Pedalboard:
WAAAAY too heavy. If you're a "bigger is better" kind of person, you'll probably enjoy this pedalboard. But if you carry your equipment yourself, and don't play huge open stages every show, this is probably not the board for you.I've done some touring, and let me tell you, the less space you take up, and the less combersome and more easily your equipment can be setup and torn down becomes pretty valuable. I would NOT want to take this on tour. When I had this pedal pad a few years back, my bandmates called it "the pedalboat". lol
The power supply is pretty cool, but the fact that you have to run power to it via cable like the one plugged into your amp means that you can't power it using a pedalsnake (if you use one).
I don't really get the point of the patch bay. Plugging your pedal and effects loops into the patch bay instead of going straight to the cables that go to your amp? That's THAT many more connections to test for bad connections when something goes wrong. What I DID find useful in the patch bay was the ability to use it as a quasi-relay for my channel switch for my amp.
The ability to raise the lower tear to make one long plane for an expression or volume pedal is nice, but this 2-tier design is about all the positive I have to say about this board. 1 other good thing, the lid.
The carpeted wooden housing is solid, but be careful with those metal plates and the energy you exert while using your pedals. I bent 2 of them over time using my wah and volume pedals. The metal is a bit thin, but the only way to remedy that would be thicker plates which would only make the thing heavier - which is the last thing it needs.Rating is down to a 5 because I had a few connections in the patch bay go bad on me.
There are much better values out there. I found what I needed with a pedaltrain PT-1. Much smaller, but still had just as much room for my pedals with much less wasted real estate. Also, it's 1/3 the price of this behemoth.
Comments about Pedal Pad MPS XL II Tour Series Powered Pedalboard:
This is worth buying just for the power supply alone. You can power EVERYTHING with this power supply, especially if you run a power strip off the ac outlet. This thing is huge, and very adaptable. Keep yer cables on top, though- you get a bad cable, you might want to be able to get to it quick. It would be interesting if they made this with a couple of access panels underneath that latched on/closed. Also, be careful how you mount yer wah pedal- the aluminum can bend with the full weight of your foot. But, I've had mine 4+ years, and the power supply is WAY better than ones that cost 3X as much, and this company stands behind their product. I just ordered a second power pad power supply from them for my other board after doing an exhaustive search looking at biyang, mxr mc 403, chiocks, voodoo- this one's the best, and way cheaper. Didn't like the patchbay that used to come in these- not worth having. Better to have the extra space. Get this if you have a bunch of pedals- it works nice.
