I received this amp from Musician's Friend as a bonus when I purchased a Korg SV-1 keyboard. It is perfect as a practice amp or even an amp for small room solo gigs. If you think you're going to drive a full 88 key keyboard or bass at full volume, you will be disappointed. There are three key points that allow you to pull more power out of this amp: 1) pay attention to the gain structure 2) use subtractive EQ and not additive, and 3) get the amp off the floor (I use two milk crates). I just used this amp on a medium size restaurant gig and it worked fine with only minor clipping. The Phonic EQ should only be used to cut frequencies, not boost them – all major EQing should be done before the signal hits the Phonic. I used an old Boss 8-channel line mixer loaded with reverb and delay effects as well as sends from a SV-1, vocal, Roland GR-55, a Digi Tech JamMan, and a Godin Spectrum guitar – sounded great. If you need a bull of a keyboard amp, pass on this. If you're willing to really work with EQ and gain structure in medium room environments, you might like this amp.

I just bought the Phonic MK50 Keyboard Amp, and practiced with my rock band last night. I would expect a 50 watt amp to put out a lot more volume before maxing out. The reverb is so-so, but most keyboards have nicer effects anyway. With the 4-band EQ, I got fairly nice sound quality, but both the clip lights on the individual channels, and the limit light on the output side, come on at fairly moderate volume, and sound will start distorting whenever they light up. If I keep it below clip levels and put it close to me, it's a nice personal keyboard monitor, but needs to be mic'd into the PA to be heard over the guitars. And the mic needs to be positioned to catch both the tweeter and woofer to get the full range of sound. The website, the manual, and even the box all say there is an external speaker jack, but there is not, nor is there a line out, unless I were to tap into the effects insert somehow. The amp seems to be built solid, but not high-end, with plastic corner protectors. There are no side-view pictures anywhere on the web, but the back is slanted both top and bottom like a floor monitor, so it faces mostly up, maybe 60 degrees, fairly good for keyboard either standing or sitting.I rated it good in value mainly because I got a really good deal from MF. At its typical price there are probably other better options, especially if you don't always have the ability to mic to a PA.

Comments about Phonic MK50 Keyboard Amplifier:

Unit power came on but no volume. Tested my keyboard with another amp and it worked fine. Tried a CD player through the AUX input and could hear the sound at a very low nonadjustable volume level. Strange smell coming from the amp. Requested an RMA but decided to not try another one of these amps.

Also, I used some loyalty points on the purchase and was told the points would not be restored as before but I might be able to have them as an in-store credit where I would have to call mf to access them - not on my own via on-line ordering.

Comments about Phonic MK50 Keyboard Amplifier:

Looks nice but volume level is poor at best. Every thing works and the reverb is fair but the lack of volume is very disappointing. It rated at 50 watts. I say it's about 10. Maybe 15 watts tops. It will work for bedroom practice. That's what I got it for. No ext. speaker out.
Use it to gig? Forget about it. Unless you jamming with acoustic guitars.
Ok for what it is. Just don't take it to band practice. Your band mates will wonder what you were thinking. Unless you want to use it as a giant drink coaster.
One bang on the banger scale.

Comments about Phonic MK50 Keyboard Amplifier:

I used one of these for a year, as an extended stage monitor for band mates on the other end of the stage, so they could set the keyboard level without having to rely on a sound man to set it correctly into their monitor mix. For that purpose, it worked perfectly, especially at stupid deal pricing. They could readjust the level as often as they wanted, without having to ask the sound man during a set. For that, and for home or band practice use, it's more than adequate. And if something happens to it, no great loss.
