Comments about Pro Co Deucetone Rat Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:
the pedal sounds great in my opinion, everything you would expect from the folks at Pro Co, the construction is heavy duty like any Pro Co. I could not for the life of me get a battery inside the unit as the small opening was crowded with wires and i was afraid of breaking a solder joint, also the 2 effects switches are soooo close together that i often stepped on the wrong one by mistake. The Pro Co Rat2 is the unit i currently am using and i love it! i ended up selling the Deucetone and taking a loss on [@].
Comments about Pro Co Deucetone Rat Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:
An incredibly wide range of overdrives and distortions can be gotten by this pedal. It can put out just about any type of dirt I want. I wouldn't have thought having two seperate dist. pedals in one would be that useful, but it comes in handy more often than I would've thought. I usually have mine set for a nice, light overdrive for bluesy, Gilmoury things on one channel, a heavier distortion for the rhythm playing on the other channel, and then cascade them for some wicked leads. Works great for all of my guitars, from bluesy standard tuning to sludgy drop B (and lower), single coils and humbuckers, and it even make a great bass distortion.
The one flaw: As almost every other review of this anywhere points out, the INPUT and OUTPUT jacks are the opposite of just about every other pedal anywhere else. This just causes more of a hassle on your pedal board. I was also hesitant at the price, but considering you're really getting two great pedals, it's worth it.
Comments about Pro Co Deucetone Rat Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:
The deucetone is a great distortion pedal offering a good variety of useful and useable tones with those players commited to doing the online research and spending some time with the unit. My only real complaint is that the left to right channel orientation adds several inches to your signal chain unnecessarily. The pedal is alot of fun and it admirably transcends the gap from bedroom rigs to larger venue amps. I especially liked getting a collection of voices in addition to the three knob controls. And for the cost its a no brainer.
Please note that this pedal is apparently not modifyable, but I think it offers all of what several of the other most popular modified Rat recipes claim to, and in a guaranteed and reliable piece of solid stable equipment.
I have two criticisms of the deucetone's design: first, the switches to change its channels various RAT voicings from "Dirty" to "Vintage" or "Turbo" to "Clean" are on the back of the unit and this takes some getting used to; second the channels on the pedal are laid out in an A to B left to right order that makes it require excess length patch cables to fit well on your board with other pedals--again this takes some getting used to. That said, the different voicings are distinct, numerous, and highly tweakable. Much is made in the advertisements for this pedal of its cascading usage or employing both channels at once; this can certainly be done, but I've found the individual channels have plenty of gain enough on their own--maybe this is useful for serious metal players? In terms of features the packing contains some proco advertising material, but all the pedals operation instructions and setting suggestions are available online with a little googling; these are very useful especially early on as the learnign curve with the Rat can be pretty steep at first and the gain can seem over abundant for smaller rigs.
The build quality on this pedal is simply amazing. It has a sturdy steel case with heavy weight durable knobs that are also extremely adjustable. The pedal's input and output jacks are also heavy duty. The blade switches on its back, for changing between the different RAT voicings are also super sturdy. Proco offers a lifetime guarantee on all its pedals parts even when they are broken by abuse; they word their guarantee like a challenge--as in they dare you to break it. And that has been successful for them because basically you can't. These are built tough like some sort of WWII surplus electronic equipment.
I love this pedal and its variety of Rat voicing options. It works as a clean boost, a germanium-ish fuzz (see dirty), a warm 70s distortion (see vintage), or a sharp 80s biting distortion (see turbo) and also just about any combo in between. It's solid state and rock solid in construction. It takes some time to master and the filter control can be counter intuitive sometimes, but the tonal rewards are worth the effort. It works equally well at low volmues so its good for bedroom rigs and can then still translate to stack usage. It is not a muff substitute but with a nice warm transparent sort of overdrive you can get pretty close to this, too. Its versatile, fun, and engaging. And its like getting a second Rat free with the cost of your first one, really.

this pedal is great. it has two channels each with three different pedals to choose from. you can find two different distortions that you like or run them together and it sounds incredible in front of a tube amp
