The Experience PRS 2010 Pre-Production Run 50W Two-Channel Tube Guitar Amp Head illustrates PRS's dedication to innovation and quality by developing the full capabilities of dual channels.

PRS is proud to unveil its first two-channel amplifier, in pre-production form. A unique gain channel circuit blends vintage and modern tones making this an extremely versatile and flexible amplifier. An effects loop with adjustable send and return is also featured.

Designer Doug Sewell stated, "This amp is an exciting foray into newer design, tone, and feature territories. My love for single channel amps guided this project from start to finish as I wanted to avoid some of the inherent compromises associated with some switchers. I worked hard on allowing each channel to stand on its own short of building two separate amps in one box and kept it as simple and intuitive to use as possible. I personally find it very addictive and great fun to play."

Only 20 of these hand wired, numbered, and signed units were produced.

Comments about PRS 50W Two-Channel "C" Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Purchased this amp at the PRS Experience 2010 along with the matching cabinet. The sound and punch of this amp is amazing. Have many other handwired amps. They are collecting dust. This is my go to amp, covers any style.

Very versatile amp

Comments about PRS 50W Two-Channel "C" Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Like the sound of the 2 channels, very distinct and versatile for any type of playing.
The effects loop with send/return levels is nice, as are the bias test points on the back of the amp.
A footwitch with LED's would have been nice, but that is a minor quibble.
A basic 2-channel head without a bunch of bells and whistles. Tones of both channels are great, and you can really expand your tonal palette by swapping tubes. I wish there was a way to defeat the reverb from the Lead channel without having to use the footswitch. And speaking of the footswitch, it would have been nice to have some LED's on it to make it easier to see which channel is active. If you are after a smooth and rich clean tone, the Clean channel will get you there. It can also break up nicely if you push the Gain up. The Lead channel is pure EL34 goodness. More gain on tap than I would ever need for Classic Rock.
Hand-built in Marlyland, quality components all around.
The head sits in a nice spot, not the most expensive, but a good value for a hand-wired, USA-built amp.

Great amp but....

Comments about PRS 50W Two-Channel "C" Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is a great amp but it depends on what style music you play. It may not be the best all around amp but it does have some great qualities. First off it is very dynamic and soulful. It really does capture the little details in your playing and is very responsive to picking pressure and so on.
It has personality.
If you are into heavy metal or even more dynamic guitar playing like Joe Satriani or Guthrie Govan this may not be the amp for you. It does not have enough gain or that liquid overdrive that is needed for lighter playing (legato) and tapping.
But it is a great amp in it's own way. It's just not for shredders so much
2 channels with a diverse range. Great for blues, classic rock and a tad harder stuff.
The build of the amp is superb.
a bit pricey but if it's what you are looking for then it's worth it.

Simple Yet Elegant and Versatile

Comments about PRS 50W Two-Channel "C" Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'd say I'm pretty satisfied with this purchase. The head is very versatile but simple enough without having a lot of switches and knobs. For what I play - pop to hard rock to fusion to church worship this fits very nicely.
Not many features to talk about but that's the beauty of this handmade amp - 2 channels with bright switch, gain, treble, mid, and bass for each; master volume for each channel and global reverb; effects send and return with level control for each. The good: As advertised each channel can be its own amp with simple adjustment of the guitar's volume. The lead channel is like the best Marshall JCM800 but on steroids. Enough gain just shy of being ridiculous when dimed. This is not a metal amp but you can easily get pinch harmonics. Very creamy overdrive with judicious use of the bass control - sweet spot seems to be around 10 - 11 o'clock. It's a 50 W EL34 with a Cinemag output tranny topology so that's how it gets its upper mid-growl. The rhythm channel can get you anywhere from pristine cleans to broken up blues-rock tones. I was surprised at how much headroom the clean channel has. Also, the clean channel takes pedals, including overdrive, very well - not that you would need any additional overdrive with the lead channel. The bad: The reverb... I'm not a big verb freak but this appears to be a cheap digital reverb-on-a-chip. I find it difficult to get a good reverb balance between the clean and lead channels. Not a big deal but somewhat of a disappointment given the price of this head.
This is handbuilt at the Paul Reed Smith Stevensville plant and designed by Doug Sewell. I haven't taken the back off yet to check it out but tubes appear to be JJs. So far (3 weeks of limited play time) so good - no rattles or other weirdness to speak of yet. Supposed to be "fixed bias" but the amp comes with bias probe inputs and a common point on the back panel. I'm assuming there's a bias pot under the chassis somewhere. Controls are very responsive and the volume tapers are not where it gets loud very quickly - I hate that about my Marshall 1987X head. So all in all the build quality appears spot on.
You get what you pay for - everything is pretty much as advertised. I'm hoping that when I do open it up I don't find PC boards with components machine soldered and traces instead of nicely right-angled wires... I did quite a bit of research online to find out about this amp - there's not much out there. What really drove my final decision are the YouTube videos of Mike Ault and Nicky Moroch using the head. After all, in the final analysis it comes down to tone.
