Comments about PRS Sweet 16 16W Tube Guitar Amp Head:
This amp is not the show stopper expected. Driving a 2x12 2061x cabinet, it has plenty of grind and crunch but you'll have a hard time getting a clean tone out of it as it is stock. My BIG CONCERN is heat. The rear chasis adjacent the IEC inlet (AC power cord) gets hotter than all get out compared to any of about 15 other tube amps around the studio. Yes, output impedance was set correctly.... juts plain old HOT! I'd be looking at a Ton King if I could do it again, even if I had to take a combo over a head.
Comments about PRS Sweet 16 16W Tube Guitar Amp Head:
This is truly a great sounding amp, with all of the features that I could ask for in an amp. The combination of reverb, a master volume and a full eq section with a bright switch are pretty rare these days. This amp can take you to bright chimey cleans, or work its way into smooth OD. I can find a tone that suits pretty much any style and situation by adjusting the volume(pre) and the master (post). These settings even make it great for quiet home use without waking the wife! I have heard others mention that it is a trebly amp, and I do agree that it can get a little too much treble, but I don't find it to be an issue. With eq adjustments, I can get a smooth swinging tone and without the bright switch engaged, you can get a darker rock sound. I don't necassarily think a single coil tele would be the best match for this amp, as the treble might be too overwhelming, but strats and prs' really shine through it. A custom 22 gives it that more modern counrty sound you hear so often now. I flagged it on quality because they brag about it being built like a tank, but within one year it needed a new reverb tank. Kind of a pain, and it was funny that when my tech called and spoke to someone in customer service, the rep told him that they didn't make amps. True story. But after the confusion was cleared up, it wasn't a big deal. Definitely worth it to keep it playing like a champ. There are other amps in this price range that are as good, but it does have its own tone. Its definitely not a Fender. It reminds me more of a Vox, Dr Z type feel for more modern country, but still has its own tone. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you find it used or on sale.
Comments about PRS Sweet 16 16W Tube Guitar Amp Head:
It's a great amp if you are a country musician, or looking for a lot of treble or twang. After messing with one for an hour, and trying a couple different guitars on it, I could never push that trebly sound out of it. Common sense says "Duh, turn the treble knob down"...but I simply cannot recommend this amp unless you simply have the money to pay for the name. It's an over-priced, one trick pony. Nothing against PRS, they make amazing gear that's in a class all it's own, but a critical review is needed to point out the flaws so that eventually, it might make it's way to PRS and give them something to start basing improvements off of.
