Comments about Randall RG13 IW Solid State Guitar Pedal Amplifier:

I have been using this thing daily in place of a practice amp. I plug it straight into a 212 cab which is loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's. I have tried it with two different guitars, one with good results and one with less than stellar results.

The Good: I mostly play a Fender Strat with noiseless pickups, and this guitar sounds great with the Randall for high gain tones. It has a ton of clarity and doesn't flatten the tone like other solid state amps tend to do. It sounds awesome at very low volumes, which is what I was looking for. I live in an apartment building, and this amp keeps the neighbors from calling the cops on me. I plug my pedals into the fx loop, and it works very well. I warm up the tone with a killer analog delay, and it gets you into tone heaven. The FX loop on an affordable, practice usable amp is unheard of. ACDC, Eric Johnson, Iron Maiden tones easily.

The Bad: I tried it out with my Ibanez with is made of mahogany and equipped with Dimarzio D-Activators. In short, it is a very high output guitar which is tailored for metal. This guitar did not play well with the Randall. I could not dial the gain back enough on the amp to get articulate tone. I have played the guitar on many amps, so it is not the guitar. I would not recommend this for use with a high output, passive-pickup guitar. It might play better with EMG's, but I can't say with any authority.

Secondly, clean tone on this thing is useless. It is very thin sounding with no warmth. There is a huge volume jump from channel 1 to channels 2 or 3.

Overall: I didn't pay much for this thing, making it a huge deal. It sounds great with a lower output guitar on channel 3. The FX loop is its best feature. It is built like a tank and I forsee no issues. Buy this if you are in search of a practice device or if you're just a gear nerd like me. It is a ton of fun and worth the meager price tag.

Comments about Randall RG13 IW Solid State Guitar Pedal Amplifier:

Great sound and flexible output options, but Channel 1 (Clean) ceased to yield any signal after only a few hours of operation. The signal began to deteriorate gradually then quit altogether. Turning off the power and disconnecting the power supply and powering up again did not solve the issue. This was done a few times with no success.

Comments about Randall RG13 IW Solid State Guitar Pedal Amplifier:

Nice clean channel, high gain and REALLY high gain channels. Easily as flexible as the Mesa Vtwin or other high gain "preamp in a pedals". Shared EQ does take something away from the overall usefulness, and you're not going to get classic rock or blues crunch out of this, but if you're after teh brutalz tonez this is your buttercup!

        • Run guitar through the PA

Comments about Randall RG13 IW Solid State Guitar Pedal Amplifier:

All the reviews that I read seemed to be geared towards metal, but I get great tones from this for classic rock. I love having 3 channels, though I mostly use the two gain channels. The attenuated output sounds great through the PA. I haven't tried it through a cabinet yet, and I can't speak to the reliability, as I just got it. This unit is great for practice, where I don't have to lug an enormous amp back and forth, and I can still get great tones.

Comments about Randall RG13 IW Solid State Guitar Pedal Amplifier:

Its an Ok pedal, but overall a disappointment. I havent used it much, maybe 20 hours worth, if that, and already the output has stopped working. The sound was not even as good as a POD 2.0 and the 1 watt power amp is very weak. This would not even work with a quiet drummer or even another guitarist on a small amp. Randall had a good idea with this, it just seems like a swing and a miss. Its trying to do several things, but unfortunately it doesnt do any of them well.

Comments about Randall RG13 IW Solid State Guitar Pedal Amplifier:

I recieved my rg13 today and thus far i absolutely love it and all its features. The only con i can think of is each channel dosent have its own eq so either get used to turning knobs alot or find a setting that works well with all 3 channels. It has an amazing clean channel with a "bright" switch which adds ALOT of treble and presence to it. Under the eq section there are a mid scoop which qives that classic metal tone and a bass boost button to really hit the lows. Another feature i personally love is the loop_boost button. I run the rg13 through my randall rt50h all tube and use the effects loop built into it so i switch it to boost mode. This works two fold. By turning the boost on you can turn the boost all the weigh down and when the boost is turned on you can set it to boost the volume by about 20 decibals or completely cut the sound for tuning. The EQ is very touchy just like the one on my amps but like the other guy said somehow memorize or write down your settings. I havent ran it into a cab yet just speakers and headphones but im sure 1.7 watts is not enough to push four 12 inchers. Maybe 2 at 4 ohms. Theres so many things to list with this amazing piece of equipment so instead of writing them all check out my youtube vid under potjnkye86 it will be up by june 6th. Way to hit another one outta the park Randall. Love your equipments and cant wait to get a SATAN. I LOVE RANDALL AMPLIFICATION.

Comments about Randall RG13 IW Solid State Guitar Pedal Amplifier:

This is definitely a really great product with an excellent idea in mind, and it really does everything you want it to do (sound as it should for high gain). My only issue with it is that one of the big props they give the product is the fact that you can plug it straight into a 4x12 cabinet and use it. You CAN use the RG-13 in place of a head BUT if you've playing with a drummer/bass player the 1 watt of power doesn't get you loud enough to be heard over the rest of the band. My recommendation, (if you're on tour with it) use whatever back-line gear you're provided and run the RG-13 in front of the amp's OD channel and use it for further EQ and extra "Dirt" (as Chappers would say). And if you just can't stand a single part of the back-line, run the amp clean and use the RG-13 as your primary gain sound. At least that way you can use whatever tubes are in the head for the extra warmth that the solid state may be lacking.

Either which way, great product with many good ideas in mind. Lots of different sounds in it with an almost over active EQ (it's a good thing believe me, just make sure you mark on it with tape or a sharpie to find the tone again because it can be tricky to find a tone you REALLY like when you loose it).

Looking really forward to the new Randall models coming up in the next few months. I call dibs on a Thrasher haha.

                  Randall 2013!!!
