I rarely like to write a review so soon after getting something but, after having this amp a week, I am totally sold on it and the quality the folks at Randall are putting out. I purchased the RX120D (120 watt SS head and 4x12 cab) about a year ago and was happy with it, but I missed that tube warmth. So, I saved my money and bought this amp. I'm glad I did.First, the only bad thing (and this is subjective)about this amp is that the effects seem a little weak. The reverbs are good, but everything else is slightly better than nothing. Everything else about the amp is great. It does sound warm and punchy, just like a tube amp. The clean channel sounds nice and warm and the boost gives just enough grit. The gain channels will satisfy most needs. If you play metal of any kind you will still need a pedal. I ran my Boss MT 2 through the clean channel and it was sick. I played it out last weekend and had no problems with the amp not getting out or cutting off past a certain volume level. I ran my PODxt Live through it (through the effect rerutn) and it never skipped a beat. With 200 watts it will be enough for most. I even used it to power my 4x12 cab and the results were, to put it mildly, quite loud. And, as someone else pointed out, you have plenty of bottom end.It has the tone and power to do what amps that cost twice as much do. If you are looking to move past the sterile sound of solid state amps without going broke, this amp is for you.

When I bought this amp, I tried it out and it sounded very nice at low levels, but when I cranked it up to make some noise w/my band, the amp kept turning off. I lowered the level and it was fine, but when I cranked it up again It kept farting out. Several models were poorly constructed (brain). I am a fan of Randall, but it's a hassle to return these defective items. I encourage caution on this amp.

Great gobs of metal Batman!!

THE POSTITIVES: Nice clean tones, very warm tube feel thanks to the preamp tube. Great rhythm distortion on Gain 1. Gain 2 - holy cow, very aggressive and punchy. You do not need a distortion pedal of any kind for this thing. Just what I was looking for. This amp is loud, very loud. Came with a four button footswitch, a big plus in my opinion. Speaker outputs are a big plus to run extra cabs if you need it.NEGATIVES: Weight is always an issue no matter what and this amp is no different. But for a great sounding metal amp, I think I can just get me a two wheel dolly or start lifting weights again(I'll opt for the dolly!!) Randall probably could have put casters on it to help. OVERALL: This amp is great. I won't use any of the effects stuff because I like a straight up amp - which is why I bought the version without all the digital effects. I will probably end up buying a 2 x 12 cab for this to make it a "half stack". Ease of portability over a true 4 x 12. BOTTOM LINE: If you are looking for a great sounding metal amp, this is it!!!

Simply Amazing

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I got my Randall abaout 10 months ago. I have used it only as a practice amp. At only around half volume, I was wearing earplugs. I have not yet tried it at higher levels, however it's such a pleasure to use because there are soooooo many ways to customize it and make it fit your personal settings. The footswitch is also great. Note: Make sure that the outlet you're using isn't occupied. This can cause buzz. Overall, this amp is really great, if you're looking for a great sounding amp that can go very very loud, its absolutely worth getting.

Awesome amp!

I bought this amp a few weeks ago and I cant be happier with it. It has sufficient distortion on the gain channel and amazing clean on the clean channel. I was surprised most about how good the clean sounded. I was sum what disappointed by the built in effects but I consider the built in effects as a bonus, just need to buy a nice effects pedal. It is also verryy bassy, it will rattle everything in the house. BUY THIS AMP!!!!

Half stack killer

By Midshore

from quantico, VA

Excellent combo for the price, blows away alot of the low end half stacks. I read a review on it not too long ago and they said it was a paint peeler, it's more like Howitzer. It just about shook everything that wasn't nailed down. As far as it sounding like a tube amp, they nailed it. You definitely can gig with this combo. You won't disappointed.

WOW!!!

By Shane-QWdpH

I got it home and plugged it in-WOW!!! This thing is loud and I mean loud. I had the master volume on one and it was almost too loud. The 2 different gain channels have some serious crunch to them. Randall makes some of the best manufactured products out there. I can wait to hook up my tube screamer to this thing. It also has great tone which is due to the tube preamp. You won't be disappointed. It also looks great!

Wow, Thank You Randall

By BLSbrandon

from Emporia, KS

I am very impressed with this piece of equipment. I chose this one over the solid state halfstack because for little more, you get brand new hybrid tube technology and 80 more watts. This amp has great tube tone and warmth, without the big tube price. I run an Ibanez sz520 through a Dunlop Crybaby. With 200 watts RMS, this baby just screams. I'm serious, this sucker is LOUD. But the sound quality is great all the way through. The highs are crystal clear and the low end really thumps. There are lots of cool touches like a midrange voicing knob on the overdrive channel and two stages of gain. This feature lets you go from Lynryrd Skynryd to Pantera with the tap of a toe. The 16 built in effects are also very good, and totally useable. Great Amp, I highly recommend it to anyone.

Best Amp I ever Played

By Epiman666

from Portland OR

Let me tell you this amp is insane, I have played many amps and this thing kicks all their asses. I got this amp five months ago and I'm still not tired of it. I also got a Dime wah wah pedal to go with it and they sound amazing together. The effects that are built into the amp are very good. The clean channel is great and bright, great for a jazzy sound. The Gain 1 channel is great, I dilled in some sttings and got a good old school "Kill 'em all" tone out of it. The gain 2 channel is just insane, Great for hardcore or death metal, this f***er has so much distortion its not even funny. If your looking for a Pro sounding amp at a good price you better buy this amp.
