Comments about Randall RG80 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo:

This amp is good for metal heads, I guess, but, if you play blues or classic rock this amp is not for you. The gain/distortion/overdrive is terrible. No clean gain at all. Strictly for metal. I could not get a good overdrive out of it at all even after a week of tweeking. I had to return the item at my own cost paying for an amp that is limited in design output. If you want distorted overdrive with limited tone, go for it.

Comments about Randall RG80 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo:

I got this as a kinda "backup" to my Marshall DSL40. Im mainly a home player, but this amp is well made and sturdy yet very portable. I think it would fair well in a gigging environment. Its smaller than most 1x12 tube combos which is nice. FYI, I'm using this amp via the four cable method with my GT-100 mainly for switching capability and some effects...delay, gate, wah etc(I have separate settings programmed for my DSL as well). This is a loud amp if you want it to be at 80 watts but also sounds good at lower/moderate volumes. The clean channel shares an EQ with channel 2 but that's not an issue for me. The clean is very clear and punchy. The stock speaker is exceptionally good. The gain channel is really brutal and gets you into Dimebag territory. It packs a lot of great features into a small 1x12 such as an effects loop, XLR speaker emulator out, mid scoop and bass boost features. So here's the thing. This really is a metal amp. If you're looking for a super versatile amp, this may not be for you. IMO, channel 2 it sounds best when the gain is all the way up and you are playing metals riffs and soloing. Im not saying you cant lower the gain and play some crunchy stuff, I just think it sounds best gain cranked. You WILL need a nose gate. I have an ISP in front of the amp and a gate from GT100 in the loop. This is one of the best amps on the market for the money for hard rock and metal. It may not have the bells and whistles of some of the modeling amps out there, but I think it blows them away as far as tone. You can always add effects via a MFX processor.

Comments about Randall RG80 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo:

Not a bad amp. It's LOUD and simple. Not heavy at all to carry around. Good reverb. Channel one is alittle dark for me even with the brigth switch on. Channel two does it for me , not much on the sustain tho , but i only have this amp for less than a month so i still need to get use to the interaction with me guitar. Over All its a keeper !

Comments about Randall RG80 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo:

this amp is powerful for a 1 x12 solid state. its perfect for hard rock and metal. the controls are oldschool and easy to use. it comes with a channel switch pedal for clean to over drive. yes it doesn't have many functions but it isnt anything a couple of pedals wouldnt solve. this ranges from playing at home to recording to playing on stage. this amp rocks!!

Comments about Randall RG80 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo:

I purchased one of the amps as soon as they appeared on the showroom floor. I wanted something like a Fender amp but made tough for hard rock and metal. This amp is perfect for hard rock and metal. It has classic controls that are easy to use. Effects pedals sound terrific through this amp. It's loud, aggressive and it does not have a muddy tone at all. It's a keeper. An amp you never want to get rid of. I'm buying another just for taking places. Keeping the one I have as my main hard rock / metal practice amp at home.

Comments about Randall RG80 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo:

I bought the RG-80 sight unseen based on a Randall RG 120 I owned in the 1970's, hoping for the same mix of excellent clean tone, power and reliability. While current Randall amps are marketed for their high gain tones, the RG-80 has a fantastic clean tone that has an excellent array of eq shaping controls. The gain structure of the "clean channel" allows the user to dial in everything from huge clean headroom to cranked vintage tube amp sound. The gain structure of the "high gain" channel starts where the first channel leaves off and takes no prisoners. Even at higher gain settings, notes are distinguishable and chords are not muddy. The amp is very responsive to player dynamics.
