I bought this head about 2 or so years ago because i knew dimebag darrell used randall and loved them, and i loved dimebag so i thought id try it. So i bought this from musicians friend when there was about 2 left on clearence. And once i got in and plugged it into my 1960 marshall cab, i fell in love! This thing sounds amazing, a lot of the reviews on hear say that the high end sucks, but i dont see what they are talkin about. And other people say the brightness is weak, but my is bright (probly because of my marshall 1960). Oh and this thing is tough too, i bring it on the road with me and ive dropped it and banged it agaisnt stuff and it still sounds brand new... I love this head, too bad they discountinued this bad beast!

I recently purchased this head to play through my randall 4x12 with celestion speakers. I was very dissapointed in the quality of the sound. The randall modern gain stage has very little sustain and the notes die very easily. When the gain is turned up past 70% there is alot of unwanted noise. A noise suppressor does not help much. The amp also lacks presence and hi end.... boosting the treble/presence through the effects loop via eq/suppressor pedal/fx board causes severe high pitched clipping in the background. The clean tone is average, and the british gain is below standards. The reverb and chorus are absolute garbage.

    Good amp with some backup

    By TRUSTHEORYguitarist

I purchased this head after my Marshall died on me twice (I'll never own another one). This amp really saved me. Aside from just having incredible power the tones you can get from it are just insane. My only problem is studio sound. It seems to be a little lacking so I used an Ibanez turbo screamer turned down low infront of the amp and it gives it that midrange rectifier boost. Overall, I think anyone from starters to pros would be satisfied with this amp, I am definitely sold on Randalls.

    Randall Rocks...

    By Mr.Mick

Simply put... Randall Rocks! I own this and the RG100SC as a Back up amp. They just sound AWESOME... The ONLY reason I gave it a 9 was that as others stated, the Chorus is pretty light on these. Get a BOSS - Chorus pedal and GET IT DONE!I just LOVE these amps! Great bang for the buck!

    Great Amp!

    By Metal Matt

    from United States

I love the head exept I've had some problems with the chip board in the Fx loop. It will die if the cords are even just a little loose. Other than that for the price you almost can't do any better. I love the clean channel and the boost option is great. There is allot of feedback at high volume with the 2nd gain, but the classic sound is the best. Lots of good options but right now I wouldn't gig with out a back up.

I bought this head to go with a peavey cab. I love everything about this head except the stereo chorus, it just does not sound good it is like you cant even hear it. I even took it back and pluged in to a randall maching cab and you still cant hear it. I can't really complain because I fixed it with a effects pedal. This head is good for the price and all the other effects on it rock out loud.

    I like it

    By Metalheavy

I like it with a Digitech Grunge or Boss MT-2 and an EQ, of course, for pleeeenty of distortion and tweaking options (9). In my opinion the gain channels lack treble and brightness (7), but I've seen people love it the way it is. So, it's a very responsive and versatile powerful head (10). Buy it, now (10). Dude ! Tweak it right, if you wanna pull those Dimebag's riffs, you'll be impressed. Hard to quit playing this thing, dude.

    LUNATIC

    By Lunatic-anCS5

    from Weslaco, TX

Out of all the amp heads I have owned in the last 15 years, this one by far is the best sounding. It should really be like 3 channels cause on the distortion stage, you can switch from a very thick distortion to a more mild distortion, good for when the verse singing comes along. I use chorus on the distortion stage as well as the clean channel. Adds a very nice sound. The back has various ins and outs , so it is very gig friendly - even includes volume knobs for the ins and outs. I use a sonic maximizer bbe spin off that berhinger makes called the dual flex pro (an exciter) on the in and out. Talk about brutal, thick distortion. Definitely reigns.

Kick A** Head

    By Guitargeek1028

    from Corona,CA

This head when I bought it at first, was the midrange head not the cheapest and not the most expensive. But you would think it was the most expensive. It has a heart stopping tone at 10 the Contour is very helpful for dialing in that tone on the distortion. And the Clean boost is helpful for acoustic setups. The only thing I can say bad about the head is the effects loop. It just wasnt wired for digital proccsors like the Gt-8 or GNX4. I had to use the main in and set my Gt-8 to Return stack for the output select and the tone sounded decent. I have hooked up analog pedals and it brings this head to life. Have fun rocking out with this head because it will rock you.
