OVERVIEW

Everything you need to build a killer Randall half-stack.

Start with the 50W Randall RT50H tube amp head from the RT series. It's an extremely flexible, all-tube guitar amp head offering a vast range of tones. It also features a power tube bias section allowing you to bias the power tubes yourself, an easy and money saving operation detailed in the instructions. This user-friendly bias section on the back allows the player to replace, bias & match the tubes themselves with just an inexpensive volt meter available at any electronics or home improvement store. Randall amps from the RT Series uses 12AX7 preamp tubes and 6L6 power tubes that can be swapped out with EL34s for a more British vibe.

The Randall RT50H amp head features two discrete channels. Channel 1 is a Classic Clean, which allows you to go from sparkling tone to highly overdriven force. Channel 2 is a Modern Overdrive, which brings out classic distortion and full high-gain sound. The EQ controls include bass, middle, treble, and a bright switch on the clean channel, so you can pinpoint your ideal individual amplified guitar voice. The master controls on the Randall RT50H amp head include volume and reverb, for that full sound and depth. Series EFX loop, switch for rack or pedal compatibility, and an included 2-mode footswitch round out the amp head package.

The 100W Randall RT412CX 4x12 guitar speaker cab is perfectly matched to complement Randall RT Series amp heads. Randall constructs the RT412CX cabinet with heavy-duty hardware and birch plywood, then gives it an RT-style black chrome steel grill and a black tolex covering. The Randall RT412CX is armed with four Celestion G12M 25W vintage-voiced speakers.

Celestion G12M-25 Greenback 12" Speakers reproduce the early ceramic magnet version of the G12. The Celestion G12 delivers the raw sound of '60s rock. It's a speaker ideally suited for twin combos or 4 x 12 cabs. Each Celestion G12M-25 Greenbach Speaker handles 25W.

You also get the Live Wire 16-gauge 1/4"-to-1/4" cables which offer the strength and durability to withstand more than everyday use. Get superior wiring that allows your signal to be quiet, eliminating frustrating hums, buzzing and crackles. The sturdy construction enhances signal and performance. Flexible design eliminates kinks and twists for a tangle-free performance whether you're in the studio or on the stage.

Comments about Randall RT Series RT50H 50W Tube Amp and RT412CX Cabinet Half Stack:

I'm not sure if it's quite fair for me to review the head because I'm more of an old school type player and this is a rocking metal type of amp. I wasn't all that impressed with the head but the cabinet is fantastic.

        The Head:
The tubes must have been loose because the amp cut out and died. I took the tubes out and put them back in and then the amp worked. The reverb never did work so I am sending the unit in for exchange/repair. The clean channel isn't all that wonderful but the gain channel has an amazing amount of distortion for metal type sounds. At first I just wasn't getting any type of sounds that I wanted and then I just cranked all the knobs up all the way in the way Van Halen says he used to do with his plexi. Then I tamed the volume with the master volume and used the mid EQ to dial in which tone I wanted. It sounded really great this way and the amp really came alive when I did this. So, even though the clean channel isn't all that great I have other amps for clean tones but none of them can touch the way the rt50h sounds cranked.

        The Cabinet:
I love the cabinet! It has the same greenback celestion that is in my bogner alchenist 212. I plugged my bogner alchemist head into the cabinet and was able to get tons of different tones out of this cabinet that were tremendously full bodied compared to the open back 2x12 cabinet that my bogner has. I mean the alchemist all by itself sounds great and then when I plugged it into this cabinet it was just amazing! It's hard to describe into words what I was hearing but just suffice it to say that I love this cabinet and think I'll probably have it always. The build construction and quality is top shelf and it looks killer and sounds killer too. I suppose most people who get randall amps and cabs play mostly metal but this cabinet with my alchemist head made for some of the best old school rockabilly tones out there. It sounded like Brian Setzer came for a visit. I love it!

Comments about Randall RT Series RT50H 50W Tube Amp and RT412CX Cabinet Half Stack:

This amp has very little range of adjustment. The gain control totaly robs all the treble unless it is all the way up. The clean channel is not too bad, but not much volume. This amp pretty much needs to be set a certain way on the distortion channel or you will not get very much volume. Even with the gain and volume on max, it is barley loud enough to keep up with a drummer and bass player. This biggest drawback to this amp/cab is that it operates on 8/4 ohms. This makes it pretty tough to find another cab that will work with this head, or a head that can use this cab. Most half stacks are 16ohms mono or 8 ohms stereo. I bought this for the stupid deal price of [$] for both, but I still sent it back. Not sure why anyone would want to buy this.

Comments about Randall RT Series RT50H 50W Tube Amp and RT412CX Cabinet Half Stack:

I bought this tube amp and cab package when Musicians Friend had it as the "Stupid Deal of the Day" for [$] and let me just say, for [$] you can't beat it! I play rhythm guitar and if you love hard rock/metal, this is the amp for you. Only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because this amp is mainly a metal amp and can't do much of anything else like blues or jazz and the reverb channel doesn't sound that great, but if you want raw, heavy tone, this is the amp for you! Gotta love the Celestion (sp?) greenbacks that are loaded in the cab, just krank the amp and let it scream!
