Comments about Randall RT Series RT50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

For what I paid for this, its amazing. 50 all tube watts. The lead channel is great, I wish it had more gain, but it is what it is. The clean channel is really clean and sounds really good. The reverb is also very useable.

I wanted this as a backup amp to be able to leave at my practice space (we only practice once a week). I was tired of lugging a mesa dual rec up 3 flights of stairs once a week and then back home for home use. While this amp isn't a dual rec by any stretch of the imagination, it shouldn't be. Its got a great tone all its own. My settings on this amp are different from any amp I've ever used. You really need to use alot of treble and gain and back the bass off alot to keep it from getting muddy, but there certainly are some really good lead tones in there.

For what I wanted it for, its perfect. The price was perfect and I've used it at 2 practices and its held its own with my drummer, bassist and other guitar player and sounded really good.

My second review after buying it

      By Anonymous

Comments about Randall RT Series RT50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I wrote the other review of this amp complaining that it didn't have a 16 ohm speaker out. After deciding to convert my cabinet so I could get this amp, I bought it. The features were too good to pass up. I particularly liked the idea of giving the user the ability to easily bias the amp without having to go to a shop. I love 50 watt heads because I can get a good tone at realistic stage volumes. 100 watts is way loud and requires twice the money when replacing tubes. I like onboard reverb and I like 2-channel amps with independent tone controls. My problem with this amp is that the reverb did not work right out of the box. It also seemed to be really fragile! The pictures make it look roadworhy, but that metal grating felt like a plastic/aluminum alloy of some sort. It came with Ruby tubes in it, which are long time favorites of the Mesa/Boogie amp company. Nice. The sounds I got were good too. My biggest issue is that you gotta run the lead channel at full gain or you lose your highs! I've never seen this! As soon as I backed the pre gain off to get a overdriven, but not fully blown tone, all the treble went away, and it sounded all bassy and muffly! BOOOOOOO! I sent it back. It didn't come with warranty papers or registration forms of any kind! Now I gotta make sure I don't get charged for that in my refund. At least they shipped it back on UPS for free. Thanks, Musicians Friend! This amp sucks! No more imports! American made amps are FAR superior!

      Won't match all cabinets

Comments about Randall RT Series RT50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've been shopping every amp company for a 50 watt head to run into an Ampeg 4x12 I've had sitting around. I own other tube amps, but sometimes just gotta have an enclosed cabinet for that stack sound. This amp almost got me, however, it only has outputs for 4 or 8 ohms! They should have had 8 or 16 ohms! Who has a 4-ohm guitar cabinet? Anyway, if you look closely, this head is exactly the same as the 1-12 combo amp they have out, only upside down. Listen to it on youtube.com and I think you'll be impressed. I sure was! Sorry Randall, but a head made in China should cost a bit less. I went with the Jet City 50 watt head for 200 bucks less! So what if it doesn't have reverb. Add a switch to adjust for proper impedence and I may buy one of these.

Comments about Randall RT Series RT50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have had this amp for about 6 months now and overall am pretty pleased with it. I play it through a 4X12 peavy B cab. I have two other amps that I alternate between and wanted something that would fit in between the two. The Randal has been a good fit though it took some doing to understand the differences between this amp and my others. (The others being a Blues JR 15w and a Performer 100w).

The biggest complaint I had early on was that I could not get enough volume out of it. At least I felt I had to turn it up to high to get adequate volume. I contacted Randall support via email (they were fantastic) and asked if there was a known issue.

      What they said was:
"The only volume issues we had with the RT series was complaints on having to turn the amp up all the way for it to be loud. We eventually changed the taper on the master to make the amp get louder quicker. Other than that we have not had any volume issues."

Not sure what that means but I like the sound coming out it just wasn't loud enough. So after a bit of tweaking with the volume, gain, and master I have discovered that setting Gain at ~5 (7-8 on OD channel) volume at 7, (5 on OD channel) and master between 5 and 7 I can sufficiently rattle the windows if needed (if I ran my Performer at 5 the cops would show up in no time) ;-)

Like I said after I got comfortable with the controls I'm pretty pleased with the head.

Comments about Randall RT Series RT50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is a great amp for the price. The distortion is awesome and I really love cranking the gain on the clean channel to make it a little dirty. However, the amp does not get as loud as a 50 watt tube amp should and it's not real versatile. If you like the sound then great, if not there are not many adjustments you can make. Play before you buy, but overall a very cool sounding amp for rock music.

This amp head has a nice modern Metal sound. The clean channel does seem low at first. A clean boost pedal solved that problem immediately.
