I got this amplifier (Randall RX120DHS) a couple months ago and I just played my first show with it and overall I'm pretty satisfied with it. It was so loud it drowned out the other guitarist in my band (that can be good or bad depending on how you look at it). The only real problems I have with this amp is its distortion and the digital effects. The distortion is pretty weak even compared to my mini Marshall. However, though that can be bad for the rhythm guitarist, I would suggest it for most lead guitarists with any skill for two reasons. 1, If you have any skill whatsoever as a soloist, you really don't need a whole mess of distortion to make you sound good. 2, too much distortion produces nasty overtones which can cramp your style. Also, the extra 100 bucks for all the effects is a rip. The reverb is good, but there is no way to change the timing on the delay and everything else sounds cheap. I suggest you get the cheaper model of this amp with just the reverb. Other than that so far I've been pretty happy with it, but I can't say you will be too, because it really depends what kind of music you play.

First off let me say I was really excited to get this amp. Im a huge fan of Dimebag Darrell, R.I.P. and I wanted to have that same Cowboys from Hell era tone. That tone thats thick and chunky but fast and clean. Since he used randall I thought I give it a try but I was very disppointed in this amp. Yea its loud but that doesn't make up for weak distortion and lame effects that you'll never use. My crate fxt combo amp is better than this piece of junk. This amps loud....but thats about it. You need ALOT of effects pedals to be able to get the sound you want from this thing if you like high gain distortion with no feedback. People who say it has great distortion and its the best amp they've had are saying that because its probably the only amp they've ever had. I'd buy this amp for my little niece to go with her Hello Kitty Strat, I need something with a more vulgur display of power, but thats just me.

Perfect for metal

I decided to get this amp after i returned the crappy Marshall MG100HDFX/MG412 half stack. Like the title says, this amp is amazing for any type of heavy metal you play. I havent tried playing any other styles on it yet, but in my opinion the clean sounds pretty good. Unlike the Marshall, i was able to get my signature tone with it in 5 minutes, and it sounded amazing!

Amazing amp for little money!

I bought this amp a little under a month ago, and I've got to say that I'm not at all disappointed. The clean has beautiful tone, and the distortion side makes for a great adrenaline rush. I play on the amp every day, and no matter what I play- metal or classical- I'm always satisfied. It's definitely a great buy for a serious musician with little money to spend.

Great Amp For Little Cash

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I got this stack because a lack of money. my Cube 60 Amp could not overpower my drumer, so i got the Randall RX120DHS and it's 120w power blasted over the drums so much that i had to turn it down to less than half way. the destortion that comes with the stack is good, but if you hook up a Digitech Metal Master destortion petal it sounds great

Rock 'N Roll Damnation

This amp is worth every penny so far. It has such good distortion I bypassed my processor. Crunchy, Dirty sound and you can tweak it out pretty far either way. Good muddy lows and bright crisp high end. Volume on level 2 is enough to be heard over my drum set. (just ask my neighbors!) You can easily get that heavy metal feedback no problem. I like the built in effects but it's easier to use my gnx if I want effects.

here is the deal

By Anonymous

I bought this amp 2 months ago it has plenty of power for shows. The quality is great. the one problem is, the stock distortion sound sucks like most amps. some ------ ---- above said it sounds great. Yeah if you dont know what sounds good. I use A boss Metal zone now it has the right sound for metal. The clean channel is good also. This is a great amp for the money. Also make sure you use a good guitar with good pick ups not a piece of crap This also has to do with having a perfect sounding metal machine not like the suck --- bands today..

Excellent mid-price amp.

By Deathchill

from Iowa

I bought this amp as a stepping stone between a 60 watt amp and a Mesa, but I have to say, I've been impressed with this amp enough that I may not need a more expensive one. It has very good distortion, with flexible contouring from an industrial, mid-heavy tone to a pure metal high-end crunch and sustain. The clean channel is excellent, again with perfect EQ's for any style I want to play; both channels compliment my Carvin guitar perfectly. The effects are superb as well, giving some fun echoes, a good reverb & delay, and a clean, crisp flanger and chorus. Overall, I'd say this is one of the best >$1000 amps you can get. I'd recommend it highly to anyone else.

WOW!

By METALHEAD-mk73B

from Union City, MI

This amp really delivers! This thing has plenty of gain! If you like modern high-gain, this is all you need. It sounds so full! Some amps and pedals have too much distotion, and that makes your guitar sound horrible, and you can't hear the notes. With this amp,it has plenty of insane low end and great highs! This amp has so much power, and the onboard effects just make it even easier to use.

Wonderful amp for almost any Genre of music

By ~ZED~

from Palmetto, Florida

This amp is amazing for my opinion. It has a very crisp sound in both channels. The Gain channel is perfect. It has alot of kick to it, and if you wanted to add more distortion with a pedal of your choice it's will probably sound Great without the issues of unacceptable feedabck. The clean Channel if Great just as well. Has a very commendable sound that anyone should be able to appreciate. The effects come in handy. I really enjoy using the reverb effects, and there are plenty of reverb effect options. If you want a great halfstack for a wonderful price this amp is the way to go.

With the right pedals...

By Sethmetal Harris

from Colorado Springs, CO

I bought this amp and have loved it ever since. When playing through the built in distortion its not the best for metal, but I'm running a digitech death metal pedal thru it on the clean channel and its insanely awesome. I got the sound I had been looking for right off the bat. The effects are kind of useless however so they're never used thru mine. But with the right pedals this thing can smoke the competition. Can't beat this product for the price and the sound you can get from it.

Great setup

By Joseph-syPvk

I recently purchased this amp and I love it. Great sound and quality. Depending on the type of music you play you may want to buy distortion pedal to go with it. But it has enough for styles. I highly recommend it.

Awesome

By 80sMetalHead

from MI

I bought mine about a year ago at a local dealer and was immediately impressed with the effect features and sound. Effects aren't too bad for playing around with, but pedals achieve best quality. I'm used to playing through Crate amps and prefer the Celestion speakers over the Jaquars in this unit, but still sounds awesome. The distortion channel is nice for the older Classic Rock sounds. I use Boss Metal Zone to get the heavy crunch I like, and Boss ME-30 Multi Effect pedal so I can access different effects without constantly switching the effect knob. I also plugged in my old Crate PA-6 PA mixer to the cab and sounds unbelievably awesome. I would recommended for quality, features and price.

I just got this a week ago and I think it sounds great the effects are ok, I use a Digitech Metal Master and I found out that if you unplug the pedal that comes with it you get an even deeper cruch. I would have liked this even more if it would have come with a slanded cab instead of a straight cab. All in all i think this thing is awesome!!!

Wait a minute,...randall?

By refient_060

from Whispering Pines, NC

I had heard about randall before and thought nothing of it. I thought they were just another company. I bought this amp because I needed an amp for practice cause my crate and died on me and I desperatly needed a new amp and this was the cheapest half-stack there was. I bought it and I am thoroughly impressed with this amp. Great clean, killer effects (if you know how to use them), and still some weak distortion, but I play through a metal zone and the tone is killer!!

Best half stack ever

By Anonymous

This is the greatest half stack ever. The sixteen built in digital effects are awsome But the distortion is a little weak, I recomend using the DigiTech Metal Master for distortion.

dont get it

By coolman500

from st.louis

Yeah, very excited when I got it, very disapointed when I used it. The distortion on this amp is a joke, the tone sucks, and this amp seems to hate all and every pedal. Gonna sell this junk and save up to get something better, planning on getting a bugera amp to try it out. But yeah, don't buy this amp, bad distortiona and bad tone.

This thing is really loud. Clean channel is great. Gain is a bit lacking. I play effects through clear channel so dont really use the effects or distortion on the amp. Really good solid build...great sound...great price..Go for it!
