This Randall RX 15 is a smart buy for a beginning guitarist.Even 'pros" will get a lot of fun out of this practice amp(if they "mike" it into the venue sound system)it could sound decent for a small gig!I play The Eagles tunes and John Fogerty's hits and the sound is satisfactory. The "clean" channel is not as bright as i would like it,but for the money is acceptable. The overdriven sound even has a boost button to add a nice kick for metal heads tastes. I will recommend it for high quality sound practice.
This is a good amp for playing metal. My only complaint is that the crunch does not really kick in until the volume is turned up past 50%. I played several 10 to 15 watt amps at the music store when I bought this Randall, it had the best metal sound out of everything I tried. My second choice would be a Laney LG20R 15W, it is more versatile if you like to play a variety of musical styles. But, for a head banger like me, this amp works just fine.
Recently purchased one as a gift and just had to test it out first. The tone that came from this little thing blew me away. The boost on the overdrive channel really helps out. So if your a beginner or just need a practice amp I would recommend you buy this amp
