I've had this amp since summer of 01 and I do love it, let me get that out before I pick it apart. My first impression of the distortion still stands...it's good, but not powerful enough. I've spent hours per day at first trying to dial in anything that came close to what I get with my FX....finally I just went back to using my Digitech RP12. The only downside to that is my high end was rediculous so I had to get a 31 band EQ which after compressing my sound making it tighter and bassier....it also let me boost and cut more of my tone. Between those 2 things in my loop and EMG actives...I have my killer tone. I actually would switch the speakers though....I'd prefer something with a little more bottom end...My playing style is a hybrid of both Dime and Zakk I guess you can say. I know the partial open back doesn't help but hey, Vintage 30's are great but I'm always looking for better. Overall this is a very solid amp and yes right out of the box it's ready to rumble....don't let my review fool you....I just aim for a specific tone and with some help this amp did achieve that where my Marshall lead 100 mosfet failed.
I really love this product. The trick is working the settings to your own specific favorite sound. I was too muddy sometimes, but the extensive settings and EQ allow you to mix it where it is still bright but not muddy. I found just a little of the effects goes a long way, so I like the presence towards the low side. The clean channel is very nice. It is small enough to fit in my car and it doesn't take up alot of room in the house. But it is also loud enough to keep up with the other guys in the band.
The warhead has awesome power and perfect for any rocker. This thing KILLS the Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier!! You can get the sound of any artist right out of the box, no soundmen needed!! That was what I was really looking for. The 2 Vintage 30 speakers are great. The clean is pretty good. It's not as good as a Marshall's clean, but it's clean enough! It's not like it starts to distort, but the sound of a Marshall clean seems to be a little more compressed. After all, this amp wasn't made for a guitarist who only plays clean... DUH!! You can get any type of distortion out of this thing, from Hendrix to Van Halen, Metallica to Korn. Not to mention Pantera ;) This amp is for you!!
Yes. Tone is the word. The Warhead is the tone machine for any true metal-head looking for that major crunch and skull splitting volume. Add a 2x12 cabinet and you have a nice, compact 1/2 stack.
This amp is kick a** for metal, but not so good for blues.
