Comments about Rivera RockCrusher Power Attenuator:
I bought one of these six months ago to use with a Mesa Roadster combo. The amp sounds absolutely great with this attenuator - I can get great sound out of the amp at much lower volume levels.
Once you have it connected up it's super easy to use - doesn't have any negative affect on my tone.
Awesome unit - wish I'd had this back in the triple rectifier days!

Comments about Rivera RockCrusher Power Attenuator:
Great sounding product and works flawlessly. No perceptible change in tone and now I can crank my tube amps up for late night practices and recording without evacuating the house. Very solid product, looks like its built to last forever. Rivera did this one right, very impressed.

Not worth the money for power attenuation. A Weber attenuator is handbuilt and will cost under $200... So....

Comments about Rivera RockCrusher Power Attenuator:
This device is the equivalent of the legendary diesel Toyota HiLux(TM). Bulletproof. It is so solidly built you will gasp when you take it out of the box. In use, it, unlike many things built today, DELIVERS AS PROMISED. Mr. Rivera has done a phenomenal engineering and manufacturing job on this. If you are looking for serious attenuation, you owe it to yourself to check one out.

Comments about Rivera RockCrusher Power Attenuator:
Since I got married, I haven't been able to dime my 1970 Marshall Super Lead in the man cave with the wife home or neighbors around. Without a master volume it's been on the bench for years. I tried a resistor-based soak years ago and dumped it because the amp just didn't sound right through it. The RockCrusher has me Back in Black in a Purple Haze. The thing sounds awesome at bedroom volume with my hottest amps cranked. I could kiss the thing. Worth the investment IMHO.
Comments about Rivera RockCrusher Power Attenuator:
I have several different mfg of attenuators... mostly THD and the Rivera blows them ALL away!Great sound, nice level choices and even at full attenuation still retains a nice character.
Good feature set especially the tone mod switches
I am incredibly impressed with the build quality, the feel of the switches and pots and all aspects of the unit.
It seemed too expensive (at first) way more than my other attenuators (THD Hotplates) but the sound is GREAT!!!All the tone is there (finally) in an attenuator!Nicely done!
Comments about Rivera RockCrusher Power Attenuator:
Features:Front Panel: Bypass/Attenuation switch, 8/16 ohm selector switch, Edge and Warm switches, Attenuation Level switch that goes from -3, -8, -12, -16, -20 and Studio. Selecting the Studio setting activates the "Level" knob for fine tuning the volume from max to zero (no sound) while in Studio mode. There's also a level knob for the line out.Rear Panel: Input from amp, 2 speaker jacks and two line out jacks: balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (1/4" jack)Build Quality: It appears to be top notch. The chasis is a beast. The innerds don't look too shabby either. The chasis is 15" wide. There are 3 massive cylinder looking things inside. They are a good 75%-80% of the length of the chasis. The unit is very well ventilated and the feet are a good inch or just over tall.Sound Quality:Keep in mind, my ONLY experience prior to the RC is with a Weber MASS 8 or so years ago. This thing blows the Weber I had out of the water. I yanked the Weber out of my old Dr. Z rig within 15 minutes of hooking it up. I played with the RC hooked up to my Germino for a good hour and a half. I set the amp volume at 2:00 o'clock and went back and forth from bypass to -3db and could not tell any difference in the tone. I tried very hard to focus strictly on the tone. Going from bypass to -3db is more of a drop than I had anticipated so it was hard to zone in strictly on the tone. It actually cuts the volume pretty good. Stepping down from -3db to -8 and so on isn't as drastic and was easy to evaluate. I can report there is absolutely no change in tone on any of those settings. Going from bypass to -3db is, again, the most difficult to evaluate because of the difference in volume level. I can report however, after an extensive session, that there's no change in tone. The best analogy I can come up with is imagine attenuating a fan hooked up to an attenuator. If you attenuate the fan down, you'll feel less air as you go down. The tone of the fan motor, however, is the same. That's the sensation I got from bypass to -3db. The amp sounds the same, but I don't feel the blast from the speaker. In other words, if I play a muted low E, for example, in the bypass mode, it's a real thunderous "BOOMP BOOMP" (word? Lol) that smacks me in the chest. When switched to attenuation, I still hear the "BOOMP BOOMP", I just don't feel the smack in the chest from the speaker. I think that's the part that some folks don't like about attenuators in general. They want to feel that bass in the chest feeling. That, however, should not be confused with tone change. Again, there's no tone change. The amp sounded exactly the same. There's no frequency change, no added compression, no buzziness introduced as I attenuated more; nothing, just a volume drop.Anyway, that's the opinion of a relatively attenuator "newb". Bottom line, the unit acted just as it does in the video clip to my ears, which means it does just what it says it does. I guess there's something to that "reactive load" business after all. Hope this is helpful to anyone considering one of these units.
