Rivera

Sweet, all-tube vintage tone from one hot 1x12.

This Venus 3 1x12 combo amplifier is a compact and lightweight master of tone. The Venus 3 is easy to use, with the simplicity of a single channel, and yet ever so versatile with 3-band equalization controls that have the trademark Rivera Notch switch to choose between vintage tweed and vintage Blackface tones. With 2 12AX7 tubes, it's easy to dial in great headroom for clean playing, and with the push-pull gain boost feature the available gain and distortion will allow sustain for days. Every nuance of your note will be enveloped in a rich harmonic sweetness that the 15-watt 2x6V6GT Class-A power amp section delivers to either its single 12" Celestion G12- Heritage 30. Although this Rivera amp is compact, it is huge on sound and you will be amazed at how much clean bottom-end warmth can be found regardless of speaker size. Add spaciousness and long lush decay to your guitar with the built-in Accutronics 3 spring reverb. A Presence control adds the final touch of high-end brilliance. Power and Standby switches and the pilot light are conveniently located on the front panel.

The Rivera Vintage-Modern switch on the rear panel allows the power to be cut down to 7 watts while enhancing the even-order harmonics, making it indispensable for low-volume recording and practice. A detachable power cable and AC mains fuse are easily accessible. The amp's two speaker jacks allow connection to the internal and external speakers. A Line Out jack gives you the option of slaving another amp or recording directly from a power amp signal that is at line level. Effects patching is rapid with Preamp Out and Power Amp Input jacks provided as well.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

The Venus

Features:

Super build quality, sweet tone, plenty of volume, and a loop to boot. This amp has real nuts.... it can crank and hold together pretty well in the lows. Simple tone cotrols do the trick and the pull-boost has enough gain to satisfy single-coil overdrive needs. Reverb is voiced well and usable in the middle of its range.A Meas 5:25 might make a regular 'gigger' happier with footswitching and multi-channels, but the edge the Venus has is on pure tone when not competeing with a band. So if you play exposed (as opposed to sheltered by the sound of the band) it may just make your fans smile a little more as you pick and grin.

Quality:

Only quality issue I had was the noise-floor of the 6V6 output section seems really high (a lot of what might be called hiss) and when I contacted Rivera, crickets.... silence.... no reply. I hope I never have to require their direct help based upon that!

Value:

Middle of the road- there are a lot of nice 15W amps...   It is a US assembled product with many components being US-sourced, so the Buy American part of me feels OK. Bottom line is it is too expensive for the main-stream. Niche market.

Overall:

NIce amp if you can spare the extra cash for the exclusivity and slight tonal benefit.
