9 lives worth of wailing, freak-out effects.

The best of Rocktron with great wah and great distortion, and sounds good combined. The Black Cat Moan is a multifunctional wah pedal that offers extremely useful and musical features. It accommodates standard guitars, basses, and can jump into a high-distortion mix and really tear things up! Its germanium diodes provide a unique sweepable sonic effect--the Moan--that can act as a standalone distortion or be combined with the wah for an effect that cries harder and sweeter than a baby. The Moan effect will be most apparent when using a heavier distortion. The effect can sometimes be subtle depending on the natural harmonics of your guitar or bass.

The Wah Type Selector Control allows you to select 3 different wah modes--Normal, Classic, and Bass. Once you have selected the type you can also further modify the sound by using the gain and level controls. A pedal rocker tension adjustment screw will allow you to adjust the action of the pedal to suit your taste. While the Cat is an amazing tool for guitar players, if you select the third mode and plug into a bass rig you won't believe how moanfully sweet it is!

An On/Off switch is located under the toe of the rocker footpedal while a side switch is used to turn the Moan effect on or off. The Moan can be used as a standalone distortion or applied to the wah effect using the Combine Moan/Wah switch. Moan Level control adjusts the overall output of the Moan effect when it is activated. Moan Gain Control controls the mid-frequency band pass filter harmonic boost.

I bought this pedal several months ago because it had lots of features to boast, but Ive found none of them work particularly well. First I really dont notice a difference between the 'classic' and 'normal' settings. The 'bass' setting wasnt special either. The acutal wah itself is broad, but has way too much low end so you cant sweep back and forth quickly and acutally hear your sound. Also, whenever the pedal touches the switch, it makes a crunching noise--it sounds like faulty wiring. The first one I had would not turn on, so I got it replaced. With the second one, on stage at a gig it died out and I had to do my solo without the wah. The Moan is basically just added noise to your sound; no quality in it at all. Also the Moan switch was on the side, which made it hard to turn on (you need to kick it with the side of your foot. In my opinion, a standard Dunlop wah would prove much more useful, even without any controls.

Excellent wah, good alternative to crybaby

Comments about Rocktron Black Cat Moan Wah Pedal:

I bought this pedal about 3 years ago. At first I was a bit disappointed with it, but then I tried my friend's crybaby... Now I know this pedal has serious game and versatility compared to Dunlop's offering.

Comments about Rocktron Black Cat Moan Wah Pedal:

I use it and it is nice to mess around with tones and tunes so it opens up your horizon. This thing is a beast with both the wah and moan on. It is worth it and plays the same if not better than a cry baby.

      Great Wah Pedal

      By o_0

      from Bartlesville, OK

Comments about Rocktron Black Cat Moan Wah Pedal:

It has a great sweep(enough pedal movement for expression), Great frequency sweep, and the fact that it has an adjustable spring for the foot pedal. The Moan feature is a little "iffy". It can be extreme (its kind of a mild distortion with a frequency sweep on it), especially if you are currently running an amp on "kill". I rolled of the Moans gain, rolled the moan (frequency) back all the way, and now I can use it to "boost" my solos, and also drive the front end of the pedal. It is EXTREMELY easy to elicit feedback with the wah/moan combined, using the wah as a control. I would recommend for someone who doesn't have a decent wah pedal.

      best wah i've used

      By somguitar

      from Minnesota

Comments about Rocktron Black Cat Moan Wah Pedal:

I bought this wah not knowing what it would sound like and I was amazed when I first used it. Don't listen to anyone who says its bad, they're just steering you wrong. Its cool because you have Normal, Classic, and Bass. The moan effect is pretty cool too because when you combine Moan/Wah you get a jimi hendrix tone. The moan alone sounds a lot like a fuzz pedal and I like this more than every other one i've tried.

Comments about Rocktron Black Cat Moan Wah Pedal:

This wah is actually pretty nice. I use it for almost any funk song I do, and it does well. Solos are much better with the moan effect, and it really packs a punch. The only problem I've had with it is that it runs out of battery power pretty quickly compared to other pedals. All-in-all, it is a good deal for the money, as long as you don't mind buying batteries ;).

Comments about Rocktron Black Cat Moan Wah Pedal:

This is by far the cheapest and worst product that Rocktron has ever put out. I expected much more. This pedal is made overseas...feels cheap...and doesn't work half the time. The Moan feature was a little different..kinda neat; however, the unit is so cheaply constructed overseas and simply isn't worth it...it doesn't really do anything well..save your money...even the Ibanez WD7 Weeping Demon Wah is better. I am really disappointed with Rocktron. The best wah in the world is the Dunlop DCR-2SR rackmount wah..you can get that from the Dunlop Custom Shop!
