OVERVIEW

A heart-stopping effect for both guitar and bass.

The Rocktron Heart Attack Dynamic Filter produces a harmonic phase-shifting effect that sweeps the frequency spectrum from high to low. The dynamic filter effect is triggered by pick attack. The harder you pick the string, the louder the effect. The sensitivity control allows frequency adjustment of the effect. Lower settings provide for a lush, smooth feel—ideal for locking in with a drummer and providing solid low end. Higher settings provide amore expressive effect that is ideally suited for lead breaks. Play around with it and you will find that there are a lot of possibilities as the effects volume and sound is mainly produced by your pick attack.

Rocktron has also included distortion to give you a little more "grit" when playing. The easy access battery compartment will make changing batteries during a gig a breeze and the Heart Attack is housed in Rocktron's heavy-duty chassis.

The Heart Attack can be placed in the signal chain before or after a distortion, but usually sounds better when placed after. If using multiple pedals such as delays and other modulation effects, try the Heart Attack in different parts of the signal chain until you find the sound you personally prefer.

Comments about Rocktron Heart Attack Dynamic Filter Effects Pedal:

This is a great sounding pedal. I like to play alot of improv and this pedal gives you a really unique sound. You can't really add any outside destortion or else you won't really be able to notice the tone, but thats alright because the pedals destortion sounds great and gives you a really cool sounding fuzzy tone. Sounds crazy with a delay pedal if you dial it it just right.

Comments about Rocktron Heart Attack Dynamic Filter Effects Pedal:

It's similar to an envelope filter like you hear in 70s funk, but a different take on this effect. It's a pedal you have to play, rather than one that works with your existing technique and sound if you know what I mean. You can get some really cool sounds with it. It's sort of a specialty or novelty effect, but the same can be said for envelope filters and even wah. On lower settings it sounds really interesting on bass and doesnt kill the low end. The distortion boost would be more useful if it was adjustable. The pedal seems like it could use three or more knobs, but only has one. Still cool though.

Interesting filter, and when used with Morley volume wah--real cool...Sort of gets sounds reminiscent of the Digitech Whammy pedal.

Comments about Rocktron Heart Attack Dynamic Filter Effects Pedal:

This is the first time I have purchased an envelope filter, and I would call it a good choice. It acts like a phase shifter or modulator giving a harmonic phase sweep from high to low, but it is different because the modulation cycle resets dynamically based on your pick attack which makes it much easier to do overdubs without so much phase cancellation. It helps to have some noise gates on this thing because you can get a lot of tightly controlled and very extreme noises by adding distortion in front of it but the hum will be boosted by the envelope filter and make swooshy space sounds while the pedal is on. Changing this pedal's position in the effects chain can vastly improve the tone as well. I have been impressed with the variety of sounds I can make with this thing, including a van-halen/eruption tone great for two hand tapping, siren noises, fixed-wah sounds, talk box style modulation, and even some of that warbely primus/antipop bass sound. The only bad thing is that its easy to dial it in weird, and I am constantly changing the setting because I go back and forth using it for guitar and bass. If dialed in for guitars it can kill the low end and make your bass sound flat. All in all, people seem pretty astounded when this thing clicks on and you start hearing the spaceships and alien warzone crashing into action.

Comments about Rocktron Heart Attack Dynamic Filter Effects Pedal:

For the (Stupid Deal) price it was a good buy and I will get my money's worth from it but it really could use a few more controls. The Sensitivity knob controls the input volume from nothing to a slight boost, which could be done just as well with the instrument volume control. It would have been better if it controlled the effect in some other way and have controls for several other parameters: Effect intensity, decay rate (it's fixed at what I think is too slow so you get a downward swoosh between notes but not slow enough to sound intentional), sweep depth, etc.

The distortion is interesting on its own, especially for bass, kind of like a fuzz face but since you have little control over the primary effect it makes it less useful.

The best use I found in my short test was on crunchy guitar with the volume backed down so the sweep stays in the mid-range and givse the crunch a gently modulation like pumping a wah pedal.

                    not for guitar

Comments about Rocktron Heart Attack Dynamic Filter Effects Pedal:

I like pedals and experimenting with them. This is for Bass. Doesn't do anything for a distorted guitar. It is actually painful playing through. MF would not take the return and reimbursed me for it, instead. So I kept it for free. The unit is probably OK with a clean bass. But it is advertised as good for guitar, too.

Comments about Rocktron Heart Attack Dynamic Filter Effects Pedal:

I never write reviews, but I was seriously impressed with this product. I picked it up on a whim because of the price. Even if it sucked I wouldn't feel bad about it. To my surprise this thing sounds better than similar pedals that cost at least twice as much. Definitely a sweet deal.
