Comments about Rocktron Utopia Expression Guitar Effects Pedal:
This expression pedal has very rough mechanical action. It may not bother you, but personally I don't like the way it feels. Sending this one back :(

Comments about Rocktron Utopia Expression Guitar Effects Pedal:
I was very disappointed when I got mine. I still think it is far from being smooth as it feels quite rough when pressing the pedal up and down but when you are all plugged in and start playing you seem to not even notice it. As far as calibrating goes I have no idea as this thing has 3 inputs and a pedal that moves up and down. No knobs or adjustments whatsoever so unless you own a TC Electronics G- Major or something your out of luck there as well. I tried everything possible with every piece of gear I had and the thing still reacted way too early to get any smooth resdponse out of it. I started emailing Rocktron but they kept taking a whole day just to answer a simple question so got tired of waiting around for that and took the sides off to see about just going ahead and changing the pot. Don't believe any reviews saying this thing is not build well. I looked inside and man! Other than the plastic sides this thing is built like a tank! VERY well constructed. But as far as taking the pot off you would have to take the whole darn thing apart. Then I remembered a little trick and soldered a 10K resistor in parallel (to the outsides of the pot's lugs) to the potentiometer which then brought it down close to 10K (stock pot is 250K!!!). I absolutely LOVE this thing now. It works sooooooo smooth (although mechanically it is still a little rough to me). It really works like a dream now. The pot lugs are very easy to get to. All you need to do is take the 5 screws out of each side and pull the sides of (7/32 allen wrench).
Comments about Rocktron Utopia Expression Guitar Effects Pedal:
This pedal is actually built of steel as it says and is covered with two plastic sides for better looks. The pedal itself is steel and the pivot hinge is solid steel as well. This pedal is as solid as the BOSS or Ernie Ball volume pedals. One thing to remember when using any Expression pedal is to calibrate it properly. If not you could have the problem one reviewer here had with the pedal running its full range with barely any pedal movement. Also, it is always wise to check the manufacturer's specs for accepted and tested pedals. I love this thing. great looks and all steel (with the plastic side covers over it) and it works well. Also, the insides of the pedal are not open as in the Ernie Ball pedals and others, so components are protected against dust and dirt getting into it as much as the others. I also own two EB pedals and the Utopia pedal is just as good as the the EB pedals and BOSS pedals. These pedals allow you to choose between the low impedance expression pedal output using TRS cable splitter, or as a volume pedal using regular mono patch cables and the higher impedance input/output needed.

I have two of these, connected to an All Access. Gigged with them for almost a year, no failures. Smooth action, good feel, good pivot point.
Comments about Rocktron Utopia Expression Guitar Effects Pedal:
Just got this pedal after a long wait. It was quite a disappointment. My intention was to use it as an expression pedal for my TC G Major 2, but it's virtually unusable. The maximum output is hit with the pedal only halfway down, leaving a very tiny range for you to "express" with. Unless you are unbelievably precise with the smallest of foot movements, you will go from 0 to 127 almost instantly.Further more, while the pictures would lead you to believe that it is a solid chunk of durable metal, it is in fact chrome-colored plastic. I haven't had it long enough to speak to its durability, but it is not nearly as solid as it looks.I didn't realize when I ordered this that you can use any passive volume pedal as an expression pedal with most MIDI setups. I plan on returning this dud and getting some other volume pedal like an Ernie Ball or Dunlop.
