First let me say I just got this pedal this week and I decided to write this review to answer questions that I had to ask others about before commiting to buy.Features gets a 3 only because it does not have all the options and connectivity of the Line 6 and vox counterparts. I actually view this as a plus. I like to spend more time playing and less time configuring. 3 buttons do it all, two buttons scroll up or down through the presets and the center button enables the requested patch. This is very easy as you can set the patch you want and then scroll through to the next one and use the center button to enable it when ready. You can also mute the unit when necessary. Scrolling through it does not change the patch you are on until the center button is depressed. Simplicity is genius, however the push buttons are rather small.Quality- 5 because the effects are very good. The distortions (which in my opinion are the most important effect) are excellent. Everything form metal to rock. This does Metal well on the Mega distortion setting! The build quality seems rock solid. I am not going to compare it to the forty other high end amps I would like to claim to own like other people (Why do you need a pedal if you own a Mesa boogie and a Fender bassman and a Soldano etc.??) I do run it through a Marshall tube head and I believe it affects the unit in a positive way. No pedal will make a bad power amp sound great. This unit has many great tones right out of the box and they are usefull and NOT over the top.Overall value is a 5 because I believe the tone is supurb which is what matters most! For less than most other pedals you get effects that are quiet, high quality, and help mold your tone rather than mask it. You cannot switch effects on an off "inside the patch" like other units but you can assign some effect on and off via the footswitch. Overall ai a 5. I am very pleased I bought this over the more expensive brands. I am most interested in several good effects and not a million fair sounding ones. I bought this with the intention of returning it if it was not excellent. I will not be returning it.

Nice Piece o gear

Comments about Rocktron Utopia G100 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

What can I say! This box is cool. It's not modeling any specific amp but the tools in the box are worth the small price of admission. I especially like the effects. I wasn't the biggest thrilled with the owners guide but a friend refered me to the MFX video dvd. That helped me tremendously! This box is setup like the other Rocktron boxes and rack units. No recording features but I have a good recording interface and daw program. The amp sounds are simple. 4 Types of preamps. The cabinet modeling is pretty deep imo. I would not have thought to use them as much, but I like the sound it produces. The sweeter of this box are the effects. Really clear and don't sound as muffy as my POD effects did. If you want a simple box with very transparent effects, I'd suggest you get one of these.

Excellent Customer Service

Comments about Rocktron Utopia G100 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I thought this unit had the best heavy rock sounds for direct recording in it's price range. After several months I had a problem with a strange error message. I emailed Rocktron customer service and immediately shipped out a replacement. Excellent customer service that you don't get with all manufacturers!

SECRET WEAPON

By Frankentron5000

from Anaheim, CA

Comments about Rocktron Utopia G100 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

There's not enough words to describe the incredible sound from the Rocktron Utopia G100 Guitar System, particularly for hard rock guitar. I've known about the Rocktron sound for many years, as I heard one of my buddies, who is also one of my favorite guitar players, lead his band for years with one of the most authoritative guitar tones I've ever heard. He was using a Rocktron ProGAP (an item which is now discontinued). The thing absolutely shook the walls. Years later, I found a ProGAP in a pawn shop, resoldered all the switches (as they had been abused and destroyed), and I finally had that sound myself. Now, several years later, Rocktron has made the ProGAP crunch available, as well as other sounds that far outshine that original crunch, both in tone and programmability. This unit also includes all the compression, delay, reverb or phasing you will ever need, as well as the famous Hush noise reduction which is second to none. On top of all that, you can record DIRECT with more accurate miked amp sound than I've even heard in a miked amp!! The speaker simulation allows combinations of speakers and mic placement to suit any taste. I can go direct to my recording board, have perfect sound every time, and bypass all the delays and headache of miking a loud amp. This unit is simply amazing, in more ways that I can mention.HOWEVER... there are two major drawbacks. 1. There is no internal tuner. With almost every stompbox in the world including an internal tuner, this is a major omission. Especially for someone trying to lighten and downscale their gear for live performance. 2. This unit needs at LEAST 3 "preset" pedals, for instant access to channels. The "scroll and enable" is a bit clumsy for fast channel changes when you're in the middle of a ripping performance. That's all the goods and bads. Goods outweigh the bads by far, but I think if they make the small changes to the G100 MkII, it will be the PERFECT hard rock guitar unit.

Comments about Rocktron Utopia G100 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

i love this unit! it sounds like a great amp with tasteful effects. many multi pedals are so over the top that they are not practicle. the hush nr can be set so the patches clean up when you turn down the guitars volume. the recal button works like the "previous channel" button on your tv remote. very fat dynamic sound.

The BEST for what it is....

By Anonymous

Comments about Rocktron Utopia G100 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I am writing this to review it for what it is, not what it isn't. In other words it is not a Marshall Stack running at 11. Enough said. This is easily one of the best all in one pedals available. Especially in it's price range. Take a few minutes to tweak the presets to more of your liking and you'll be happy. I noticed the preset volume difference between a clean tone and dirty tone was too much. But not a big deal to change and save. Without use of the manual it took me only a few minutes to set things right. To make it easier I use also have an external delay pedal and chorus pedal in the chain. Gives me a bit more on-the-fly control at the touch of my foot. If you really aren't sure about the purchase just go check it out for yourself at your local shop. It's worth a listen/look see.

Best Tone Around

By Yngwee

from Houston, TX

Comments about Rocktron Utopia G100 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

Let me start by saying that I had this unit before and decided to upgrade to the PODXT Live. I couldn't really settle on the PODXTL, so I upgraded again to the VOX Tonelab LE.The VOX Tonelab LE was an awesome sounding, rich, warm unit that beats all the rest; but I couldn't stop thinking about the Utopia I used to have. So I packed it up, shipped it back and ordered another Utopia. I can't wait until it arrives. The tone is amazing for a non-tube device. It's very warm and the recto is the best around. I love this thing. There are a few minor gripes I have about it though:The wah is difficult to configure if you don't want it on all the time. There's no pedal click or something to turn it on when you want to add it.There is no USB, so you can't share patches or upload updates, etc... no direct USB recording either(bummer). There's no built-in tuner either which annoys me because I actually use the tremolo bar on my strat and don't want to have to carry around a separate tuner. It kind of defeats the purpose of having a space-saving muti-effects pedal.Other than that, the tone is unbeliveable. I love this unit and will never part with it again (unless they come out with a Utopia G200 or something).

Make Room For The Utopia Pedal

By Yngwee

from Houston, TX

Comments about Rocktron Utopia G100 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

Rocktron is at the very top of the food chain. The Rocktron Utopia is a phenomenal piece of equipment because it just sounds so damned good. There are some caveats, however. There is no USB port for patch downloads or direct PC recording. You can't backup your presets or anything else. That's probably what sucks the most about this thing. The other problem is that it's very complicated to program. The wah pedal, for instance, is either on or off. You can't work it like the Digitechs where it comes on when you rock the pedal. It sounds really really good, but some of the distortions are rather similar. The effects are really good, and the noise gate(hush) is the best around. If you don't care about drum machines and PC connections, and you just want a straight-up distortion/effects pedal, this is the best you'll find.I traded mine for the PODXT Live, but only until Rocktron improves on it and adds some features. Then it will be part of my signature sound.
