Comments about Rocktron Velocity 100 Power Amp:
I use mine to drive two 2x12 cabinets loaded with Eminence Swamp Thangs, Governors and Wizard. I use an ISP Theta Preamp and an Engl e530 Preamp into an Aphex 204 for a touch more thump.
I can clearly hear the detail of each speaker in the cabinets and the Rocktron Velocity 100 lets each preamp's character really shine.
Very loud for my uses, very open, clear and clean power.
It takes the fan about two hours to click on so it seems to be running efficiently and not too hot.
Awesome piece of gear... thanks Rocktron!
Pros
- Easy to use
- Lightweight
- Single rack space
- Warm tone
Cons
- A little noisy
- Solid state
Best Uses
- Electric guitar
Comments about Rocktron Velocity 100 Power Amp:
I bought my Velocity power amplifier about four years ago. Over that time, it has proved sturdy and reliable throughout regular use.
I use mine to power an Engl e530 preamp. Many have said that the Velocity power amp does not color the tone, but in my opinion, this is not exactly true. The Velocity has the classic, warm tone of a well-made solid state power amplifier. While you lose out on some of the compression and tonal character of a tube preamp, the Velocity is more than capable enough of handling pleasant cleans, heavy gain tones, and those ever-elusive "in between" blues and semi-clean tones.
It is a nice power amp perfect for live performance of electric guitar. I would not use it for any instrument other than guitar because to my ears it has a guitar-centric warmth that even seems to gets warmer with age.
The clincher for me was when I accidentally switched to "bypass" mode on my preamp when I meant to switch to "clean." This essentially ran my guitar directly through the power amp without any preamp. The tone was nonetheless warm and musical.
This is a low-priced and simple power amplifier that delivers what it promises. I enjoy using mine and will probably purchase another one if and when my current unit ever gives out.
Comments about Rocktron Velocity 100 Power Amp:
I'm very happy with this purchase and product. It's always good when a purchase doesn't hurt your pocket book.
This is a great little unit. I'm very pleased with it's size and weight. It is simple and straight forward, and sounds great. The only minor criticism I would have, is that the static noise when your guitar volume is at zero and the amp volume knobs are above five is higher compared to my Carvin fet450 power amp it replaced. Then again it was half the price, so I can't really complain, and I use it mainly as just a practice amp to run my rack effects. This unit gives clean, clear, warm tube like tone, and sound as advertised, and plenty of power and volume for me and my uses.
Such a small/ thin unit (single rack space) I was surprised to see a cooling fan on the side. To me this says quality, and you can see it's built sturdy.
I don't think any other power amp can touch this for the price and name brand, and quality you get.
Comments about Rocktron Velocity 100 Power Amp:
I got this last week for my FloorPodPlus and it's perfect. No sound coloration, just clean power. I also got a BBE Sonic Maximizer 382 & put it between the Pod & the amp. This combination sounds AMAZING.
Comments about Rocktron Velocity 100 Power Amp:
If you're looking for a way to make your multi-effects processor your main (and only) source for effects, this is what you need. Sound is very clear, I am very satisfied. It has 2 channels, each channel has 2 outputs to cabinets. You could power 4 cabs with this but I don't recommend doing so, as the power amp would run very hot. The 2 outputs for each channel are connected in parallel. As far as loudness goes, it's pretty much loud enough for anything except a live show. A tube power amp would certainly sound better, but those are several times more expensive than solid state. Unless you are a very serious musician, you can't go wrong with this unit. Buy now.
Comments about Rocktron Velocity 100 Power Amp:
I've been looking for a simple guitar power amp for a long time. Something that would power my multi-effects processor, which is my preamp. (You know the type, they have a million amp and cab models to choose from.) Everyone is trying to sell an amplifier with gimicky amp and cabinet modeling and fx built in but that was the opposite of what I wanted. I didn't even want treble, mid, or bass controls. I was cautious about buying a brand called Rocktron that I had never heard of before, but after much research on the internet, I am more than happy that I bought it. It is exactly what I wanted. Not over powered like a 1000W+ PA amp, it runs cool, and the sound is VERY clear. It allows me to get a much truer sound from my amp and cabinet modeling on my multi-effects processor.
