Comments about Rocktron VooDu Valve Online Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

The Voodu Valve has been around for 20 years, but there's a reason. Good tone is good tone, and this thing really delivers. Of course, there are plenty of newer preamps that far surpass it in terms of features and modeling capabilities, but when you need a reliable unit that acts and feels like it's own tube amp, the Voodu is a safe bet. It still blows away every Line 6 product I've played through.

Understand that the Voodu is not a "plug 'n play" box. Many of the presets are heavily dated and don't do it justice at all. You will have to dive into tweaking right away, but I found that chasing down the ideal tone was a little easier than I expected. Menu editing is very uniform with software that responds instantaneously. The four most important parameters to spend some time with are the high gain/low gain amps along with gain and tube settings, the speaker simulator (works well even through a cab), pre-EQ, and post-EQ. These are your ticket to making this preamp into whatever you want it to be. I didn't know if this preamp would suit my style (I'm an indie rock combo-amp kind of guy), but I made it work for me. If you're looking for a product that gives you modeling right out of the box, there are better choices, but if you know your desired tone and need a versatile tweaker-friendly option, this is your preamp.

Tip: Voodoo must be the only explanation for the magic found in these EQ's. Never stop messing with them. For chunky high-gain overdrive, scoop out a lot of the 250Hz in the pre-EQ, then add it back in the post-EQ. Try it and hold on for dear life.

The effects and other features on this unit are absolutely usable. The HUSH noise suppression is fantastic to have and is very easy to adjust. A compressor is available on every preset and can be nicely transparent if set properly. Overall, the effects range from passable to great. The delay, reverb, and wah rank highly on that spectrum and could certainly serve as your only processor if you wanted a compact rig. The modulation is not bad, if a bit digital. The chorus and flanger can be used subtly without sounding like attack of the late 80's.

Another tip: If you want to incorporate the pitch shift without that primitive, artifact-laden sound of early processors, run it 100% wet through the delay and dampen most of the high frequencies, then mix those effects 100% wet into reverb. You'll get a faux Eventide H3000.

I'd say you can't go wrong the Voodu Valve, even in 2014. Truth is, you probably can go wrong if you don't know what you want. But, chances are, if you're considering this product, you know what it does and how it compares to more current processors. It was built to last from the beginning (both in terms of build quality and features), so I don't see it as a "cheaper alternative" to the Prophesy or even the Axe-FX. It can't do everything those products do, but it does what it does very, very well. That's all I need of it. For that reason, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if anything happened to mine.

Comments about Rocktron VooDu Valve Online Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I had the Rocktron Chameleon for many years and it was pretty good, but I wanted to try the newer Rocktron with a tube. They are very similar, even with most of the same preset channels. However, testing them side-by-side with the same amp/settings, the Voodu blows away the older Rocktron away with just in-your-face tube sound. I just got it a couple days ago so I am still verifying it is worth the money, but everytime I put them side-by-side I say the same thing "WOW!
The effects can be hard to change and could be easier, but there is no difference between the old and this new one. If you like the old chemelon then stick with that, but I LOVE the tube. just wish the effects were easier to work with.

Comments about Rocktron VooDu Valve Online Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I've owned many different multi-effects and tone processors over the years - and still continue to buy them if they show sonic potential. The VooDu valve however has been my mainstay for the last ten (10) years. The presets are good - although somewhat overemphasized to let you experience the full effect - dial down some of the modulation etc... and your good to go. I've been a guitar player for over 4 decades (started playing at age 5) and this is by far the best processor for dialing in a specific tone to the most accurate nuance I've used yet. Rocktron has held firm on their price over the years but for good reason. The unit is not a no brainer. In order to maximeze the full potential of the unit you do have to do some tweaking, however once you find "your tone" and save to a preset - you're in. Want a killer tone like nobody elses? This is the unit for you. With a little patience - you'll be turning heads.

If you own this unit and don't feel like it is Christmas every day when you plug in - you haven't used the EQ sections. Dial in buttery distortion, Page style tones and your own unique sounds. It takes some tweaking but it is unbelievably worth it!!! With a little patience - you'll be turning heads.

Been around for years..there is a reason for this!

By Daniel-.qTJf

Comments about Rocktron VooDu Valve Online Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

There is a reason this preamp is still around. Quality. I had a Digitech GSP2101 for years for my effects...I would have to say that the Digitech was better in the effects section (not by a *ton* but it was superior) but this unit is better as an all in one solution where you need TONE. You WILL have to tweak this...but with a little time invested in the manual you will be richly rewarded by a versatility you will not be able to get with your amp and pedals unless you are carrying a truckload of stuff. I run this thru 5150 4x12's, Marshall 4x12's, Eminence, Celestions, Weber...whatever. It sounds GREAT. And solved a lot of my pedal tap dancing issues.I have owned Marshall, Mesa, Voodoo Labs pre, custom made PTP amps...I Love this. Sounds like a real amp. Perfect compromise of versatility and tone. Run it into a Mesa 2:90. Sick.

Great solution for your setup!

Comments about Rocktron VooDu Valve Online Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I recently bought this preamp, and I'm really happy with it. At first I was frustrated because there are so many parameters to adjust, it's easy to get a bad sound with it. But after doing some research on frequencies and tweaking the presets I was able to get the awesome metal tone I've been searching for.The reason I got this is because I was unhappy with my amps distortion sound, and I really wanted effects. Now I just run the voodu valve through the power section of my amp and it's like I have a completely different amplifier. This is a really great all in one package, the tones are good, the effects are good. Overall it was a good buy. Now I can focus on getting another guitar instead of having to buy a whole nother amp.

Voodu great for metal

By steve robertson

from lexington ky

Comments about Rocktron VooDu Valve Online Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

This is a great sounding unit. This thing is all about metal/hard rock tones. I play it through a roctron 100 watt power amp into a marshall 1960a cab (with the speaker emulator off). This is how it was meant to be played. People that knock this thing usually don't set it up right, or realize what a preamp is. All you really need to do is turn down the effects levels on most of the programs and it sounds great. It would be even cooler if there was a presence knob on the front panel. I would have also liked a 1/4 input on the back of the unit so it can be more easily linked to other stuff in my rack. But these are minor problems considering all you get for so little of money. You'll hear some dudes start blathering about how a triaxis with a g-magor sounds better, but they also cost exponentially more. The voodu is the best preamp in its price range.

The amp that beats them all

By James-Qy9Zs

from Danville, CA

Comments about Rocktron VooDu Valve Online Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I have owned this AMP since 1997. I owned Line6 pods: sold them. Bought Peavey Bass/Keyboard amp...: sold it. Used to play Marshall tops before, sold those too. It just doesn't compare with the sounds you get out of this one. The standard presets are just OK, but go to the Rocktron site and use the PatchBay, you can download sounds/banks from other users and load them straight into your Valve. Many times it has revived my joy in playing, listening to others' sounds and just GO! At the moment I record only, use a Fender prodigy with EMG double wound pick-ups (Lukather model), straight into my mixing console. Also play an Ibanez thin body cut-away nylon guitar through it, it is soooo smooth....If you are looking for a good versatile pre-amp: this is it.

I honestly couldn't want more!

By Casey-hWs5x

from Southlake, TX

Comments about Rocktron VooDu Valve Online Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

This is absolutely the best preamp I have ever used. I can get absolutely any sound I want out of this baby, I just couldn't be happier with it. The secret is the eq section...it is simply in a league of its own. Don't expect this amp to do any "modeling" though...You've gotta know what you want before it will deliver, but you'll figure it out easy enough. I just cant recommend this preamp enough to anyone wanting killer tone and ultimate flexibility!
