This thing starts with a lot of distortion on the lowest gain setting. My rig squealed like a pig turning the gain more than 3 o'clock. After that it became fuzzy. This is not an overdrive pedal. This is a hard rock distortion pedal. I used an eq and got a very cool metal sound. This will be my new hard rock pedal. I already have a metal pedal. You can seriously use the lowest gain setting and sound good. The tone knob is touchy. A little goes a long way. Tone all the way up will hurt your ears with treble. Tone all the way down and it's like you put a blanket or two on your amp. I leave it at noon. Good construction. Came with a battery. Works on bass too. Check out the Rogue Blues Distortion for a more classic sounding distortion.

just got the Rogue Distortion pedal today, so the longterm verdict is still out, my two main concerns were the noise and level of gain. yes, it is noisy but certainly not unusable, as far as the gain goes turning down the gain knob gives a decent level of distortion. the only problem so far that i can tell is the noise increases with the gain, but that's true of any distortion or fuzz pedal i've owned. i can say one thing, though, i had a Boss Metal Zone and got rid of it because of the intense distortion, this Rogue is mild compared to that, and that alone makes it a keeper
standard controls
usual quality, no plastic(that's good!)
i've had worse distortion pedals

It is perfect for Thin Lizzy and like bands. It is more of a classic distortion sound and I love it for that. A little one directional, but useful for some settings.

Pretty good for covering old 80s bands but don't expect to get any modern sound out of it. But it's still worth it

Comments about Rogue Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
Good distortion pedal, Great for the price of [$] This is a good pedal for any guitarist that wants to add some heat to their sound. I would recommend this pedal for Metal And Hard Rock guitarists. That said, it sounds only good when you turn your anmp up loud. Otherwise you won't get that same feeling if it is on the quiet, low end. Overall: Great buy, nice build, no regrets!
Comments about Rogue Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
Is it my go to pedal? No. but..its pretty decent. I play single coil guitars and they sound pretty nice through this pedal. Certainly worth the price I paid. Cool looking, rugged and compact.
Has exactly what it needs. Nothing more, nothing less.
Build is solid and it looks cool to boot.

Overall:
I think I've said it all in the other boxes. Bottom line here is if I broke or lost this one somehow, I would buy the exact same one again for the exact same purpose!
Features:
Tone knob: Gives good control over the punch. Better than I expected.
Gain knob: (like other reviewers have said) It starts out with too much gain. I wish it had lower settings, but still does just what I bought it for.
Volume: I got more than I expected for the price.
Switch: When distortion is switched off, you can't tell there's a pedal in the setup. It does better than I expected there too. I'll mention it again in the quality section.
Quality:
It's well built. Not the plastic junk you might expect for the price. The switch is firm and feels like it will hold up to my lead foot. I've only had it for 2 months, so the jury is still out. Good marks so far.
As for the electronics, they suit my purposes fine. I've read the other reviews that complain of noise, so I guess it depends on your use. I do home recordings with my PC, and I haven't had any issue with noise at all. There is some noticable at maxed out gain, but wouldn't that be expected? Maybe in a studio envirnment it's a different story, but I'm very happy with the signal considering my investment.
Value:
Here again, it depends on your purpose. If your using the overdrive channel on a lower end amp for distortion, buy this thing quick! There's going to be no comparison or regret.
If you have other pedals that your going to compare with, this one is for heavy gain. With the gain all the way down, I find myself adjusting the volume on my guitar trying to back it off just a little more, but I enjoy cranking it up and trying to shred over a backing track also. Your not going to be disappointed that you didn't get enough.
Bottom line here: For the price, you can have a good heavy distortion pedal for home recording or practise. I think that's a steal. Kudos to MF and Rogue!

Comments about Rogue Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
Well made and great design but very heavy on distortion
This is a great design for a distortion pedal But, With the gain knob turned all the way down there is still allot of distortion to this pedal. You should be able to turn the gain down and have no distortion and have like a clean sound but with this pedal you can not.
If it wasn't for that I would give it a 10 and keep it but I sent it back.
If your into real heavy metal rock then this would be the pedal your looking for.
Very well made of aluminum and will last
