I have owned this amp for about 5 years and I have done over 500+ gigs with it easily. I have other similar products that I use depending on the size of the venue but this is usually the one I go to first because it sounds the best. Most amps with seperate tweeters are artificially brittle and not very flattering to piezo pickups. The AC-33 is crisp and full but not brittle!. The looper is brilliant! The batteries last a long time but you get better headroom when you use the veary hearty AC adapter. The Feedback reduction is also very effective and does not kill the tone as some do. I use this amp constantly, it is a gig workhorse. For larger venues, it works well as a monitor and a line can be sent to the mains so it acts as a mixer on stage. The only thing I am not crazy about is the vocal mic input but it is good also, just not brilliant.
You really need to crank the gain on the vocal channel to get the signal because it is a multi use input and padded for versatility. No points off for that. The build quality is
Typical Roland- the best you can find. I would replace this in a second if it broke but it does not seem it ever will. It is worth every penny of the price, so buy it. Oh, BTW- I think of the series of AC amps, the 33 is the most natural sounding, not boomy and not brittle. It is GREAT for nylon string and other acoustic instruments also. I use it for UKe and Banjo too. Probably one of the BEST purchases I ever made.

Nice features. Well made. Sound quality needs to be improved.
Lots of features. Two channels with full eq and volume. Phantom power. Lots of input and output jacks on the rear. Nice effects. Very light and portable. And it has a looper which is fun. I have a Roland AC-90 which is really great. The AC-33 is like a mini AC-90 with all the features and more, except for the sound. I hoped it would sound similar to the AC-90, just maybe not as loud. And it wasn't as loud, and I was not impressed with the sound, especially on battery. It probably would benefit from having a tweeter/high frequency speaker. The full range speakers just don't cut it. And the battery power feature is a great idea. You can use AA batteries, but again, the amp may have sounded better with a better power supply, maybe something rechargable.
The AC-33 appears to be built well, as are most Roland products. No cheesy knobs or jacks. And everything seemed to work as it should. But the quality of the sound was not there. This was actually the 2nd AC-33 I purchased. The first one sounded pretty much the same, The sound with the AC adapter is okay, but it goes downhill with batteries. As the volume goes up, sound quality goes down. If you push it a slight bit too hard, the sound breaks up, and it appears almost that there is a limiter on the output. I find this disturbing, and I think it makes the amp less useful. If you are using it on battery and the sound clamps down, what's the point. You need to be amplified and heard. Might as well go full acoustic.
Well, if the sound quality from the amp was much better either on AC or battery, it would be a good value, although a little over priced. And I'm always willing to pay a little more for Roland quality. But this amp just doesn't deliver.

AMAZING SMALL ACOUSTIC PA

Comments about Roland AC-33 Acoustic Chorus Combo Amp:

I have had every Roland battery amp for guitars they have made. I also used the AC 60 for my main acoustic solo amp for a few years. This one is just as nice for ACOUSTIC guitar and VOCALS. Of couse it does not have the 60 watts of head room but it gets amazingly loud.
I play places from large noisy bars to small dinner venues. A couple places I could amost do just acoustic they are that small. I no longer need to drag my big room set up out to these gigs. My guitar case weighs more than this amp.
I have tested this amp at full volumes and it does not flub or breakup one bit. You do not need a speaker stand for this setup. Just more stuff to carry in. I set it on a chair or under my bar stool.
Plain and simple. If you are a solo musician and picky about your sound you will not be disappointed using this little amp. Street fairs, hotel lobbys, coffee houses, you name it.
One thing nice to keep weight down is the plastic case. Don't be weary of the small speakers. They are not cheap sounding and can handle this thing at full volumes. The input jacks are plastic something. I'm carefull plugging straight into them and removing the plugs.

The Rare Perfect Product

By Chris-JK49X

from Dublin, Ireland

Comments about Roland AC-33 Acoustic Chorus Combo Amp:

Every now and then someone comes up with the perfect product....nothing missing, nothing extra...this is one of those products. Roland, who have come up with some very cool and high quality products over the years are especially to be congratulated on this one. I cannot imagine any guitarist in any style who would not want to have one of these after trying it. It sounds amazing...chorus and reverb options are perfect and versatile...2 channels....battery operated if needed...light as a feather...if you want distortion, just add a pedal. Probably more importantly, this amp makes you want to play.... The great Joe Pass once commented that in order to play or practice, he would leave a guitar lying around or on a stand...not in a case. I think this is wise and true, but in addition a great guitar sound is what makes you want to keep playing. Try keeping a guitar on a stand and plugged into this amp. One flip of a switch and the sound is amazing. In addition, there is a looper... without scrambling to hook up extra pedals, so you can lay down an accompaniment for yourself in seconds...at this price, as previously stated, I can't imagine that anyone who tries the AC-33 wouldn't want one.

Worth every penny.

Comments about Roland AC-33 Acoustic Chorus Combo Amp:

This is a great little amp for any acoustic guitar player!
Having the AC-90, I was pretty skeptical as to what this was going to sound like. This is a great little amp. You only have to use it for a couple minuted to love the sound quality. I haven't used it on batteries yet, but i'm sure I will some day.

I also bought the FS-6 pedal to control the looper functions (which works awesome) but couldn't find the PCS-33 cable anywhere. Its mentioned in the AC-33's User Manual but nowhere else. So I just used a straight through TRS-TRS cable and it works just fine.

The Chorus and Reverb functions sound fantastic. I also think its great that they added an input level for your MP3 player etc. I tried a Shure and an AKG mic through it, and it sounded great. I also plugged in my Martin OMJM which also sounds amazing. This was a great buy!
They should have included a gig bag. That's my only complaint.

Comments about Roland AC-33 Acoustic Chorus Combo Amp:

I don't play the guitar, I play the violin, but I do know how to play the guitar. When I tested this is the store I plugged an electric guitar into it, and I knew that it was a piece of magic. I was worried that the chorus would be over the top, since it's not adjustable, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it really is beautiful sounding. The reverb and ambience effects are great too. The looper is top of the line and sounds great. Overall this amp is incredible sounding, very compact (smaller than I thought) and very loud (30w). Great amp, great amp, great amp.

This amp is fantastic. You're not gonna take it to say a "Woodstock" but for the smaller venues, get togethers, bars, coffee house, parties and jam sessions it has more than enough volume! For lager venues just run the output to an AC 60 or AC 90. The sound is just fantastic! I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Great build quality. Strong clean sound. Use it in accustical performances (Old time/Irish) to give the guitar a little lift to match the bowed instruments in volume, and also as a guitar/mic combo for solo performances in small venues. Totally fills the bill for each. A little dissapointed in Reverb/Presence quality but certainly not a deal killer. Chorus is perfect and looper comes in handy for basic stuff. I'm playing a Taylor 514 with an L.R. Baggs M1A pickup. Very happy with this great little amp.

Comments about Roland AC-33 Acoustic Chorus Combo Amp:

When an impromptu group practice is on, or when playing a small venue, especially in places you can't guarantee will have a power outlet nearby, this amp is wonderful. The battery pack lasts for hours and the sound is great. Just had to remember to also bring a portable phantom power supply for the mics since the amp doesn't have one built-in (not a show stopper).
The effects are clean and sound great - not overpowering. The built-in looper with overdub is fun and actually quite useful for laying down some percussion and background vocals for all the KT Tunstall wannabes.
All in all, a worthwhile purchase, and a satisfying portable acoustic amp.

Yep, wanted this to be my go-to portable amp. Tried it's cousin, the Street Cube and liked it but wanted the version aimed at the acoustic guitar players, plus wanted the built in looping. Despite all the good reviews, I'm with the few who say it's just underpowered, or at least, the one I had was distorting at low volume plugged into AC. Guess I'll wait for the next iteration.

This amp is very versatile. Plugged in, it's quite loud. While on batteries, it isn't the loudest thing ever, but still worth buying. The other con is the price... But I would buy it again. I will say... This thing is smaller than I expected... Which is a good thing obviously. If you're looking for an amp to play with an acoustic... Go with this over the other ones. This has way better tone, and the built in looper works perfectly. Great purchase!!

Comments about Roland AC-33 Acoustic Chorus Combo Amp:

I will start by saying I am a total newby on amps but wanted something to boost my acoustic guitar for a medium sized room. Portability and battery power option was a big factor. This little Roland does that and introduced me to something new--looping. The ability to add a microphone, add an aux input and effects are great features. It's not a "wall of sound" but makes up for that in many ways. I'm happy I invested just a bit more for this one.

Comments about Roland AC-33 Acoustic Chorus Combo Amp:

First amp I have ever owned. Choose based on recommendations from other ukeule players. The Roland name speaks for itself and the fact I can use it on gigs with no AC power is a big plus. Very happy with my purchase
