OVERVIEW

The Roland CM-30 Cube Monitor delivers 30W of audio punch through a rugged, high-quality 6.5" coaxial 2-way speaker with stereo preamp. The CM-30 is designed for home-studio and wide-ranging monitoring applications, but it can be used for live monitoring onstage as well.

The Roland CM-30 monitor speaker offers more than enough inputs to simultaneously connect a microphone, a keyboard, a rhythm machine, and a CD player, or to function as a mini-PA rig. It's equipped with 3 input channels, with one XLR mic/line input and 2 additional AUX RCA and stereo mini-phone inputs, making a total of 5 simultaneous inputs possible (4 stereo and one mono input). The Stereo Link function allows 2 CM-30s to be linked for true stereo output, which enables a total of 10 inputs.

Sound can be further refined with the Roland speaker's onboard 2-band equalizer. As with all other controls, the EQ knobs are conveniently located on the front panel for quick access.

The Roland CM-30 can be easily and safely toted from location to location thanks to its built-in handle grip, protective metal grille cover, and cabinet corner protectors. Other handy features include a stereo headphone jack and mic stand adapter.

Makes a versatile mini PA too!

FEATURES
  • 6.5" coaxial, 2-way speaker with stereo preamp
  • 30W output
  • 3 input channels, with one XLR input for mic/line and 2 additional aux inputs

So far I've been very happy with this after about 7 months. I primarily bought it to use with my old POD 2.0 and Tech 21 guitar amp modelers at home. I wasn't looking for high volume - although it can get loud enough to tick off the neighbors for sure - but I wouldn't use it for a full band rehearsal. I was never happy running the modelers through a normal guitar amp, the cabinet modeling doesn't work well with the limited frequency response of a guitar amp speaker. This Cube monitor is a full range speaker, and I can say my modelers sound the best I've ever heard them. Super easy to hook up a CD player or MP3 player and play along to backing tracks. Small size doesn't clutter up the room if you have limited space. I'm thinking of getting another one to hook up in stereo. I can also use it as a monitor when recording tracks onto my computer. If you use guitar amp modelers and want something to amplify them faithfully without coloring your sound, at quiet to moderately loud volumes, and want to minimize gear space, this is a great choice.
For a small amp/monitor it's got about every kind of input I can think of, plus headphone capability. 30 watts is louder than I thought it would be when it's turned up. Surprising amount of bass reproduction for such a small speaker.
Seems very solidly built. Front speaker mesh is metal, built in handle is very sturdy. Controls have a good feel to them, input jacks seem pretty good. It's fairly heavy for the size. I wouldn't want to drop it because I wouldn't really want to drop anything, but it feels like a high quality piece of gear. I think it sounds great. We've used it as a PA for a birthday party in a decent sized hall playing music (not enough to blow the roof off but plenty loud enough for the kids to have a good time. It's a birthday party, not a nightclub!). I use it playing guitar through my POD and Tech 21 amp modelers (more on this below).
For what it is I don't know what else I would want from it. I bought mine used so saved some money there, but I think the price is fair. It's solidly built and sounds very good, with a good feature set. Maybe if it had onboard reverb, but not a big deal.

I was interested in buying this until I played and sang through it. The features for a small product such as this are very good and it felt like a Roland in your hand - sturdy but light. It IS a quality item. It actually sounded stellar with an acoustic electric guitar. For practice, small gigs and such it is NOT adequate for vocals. The sound was good but it was easier to just sing louder - my voice was louder than my voice through it as a pa. It also clips considerably at high volume. I wanted to like it, but feel it is underpowered, overpriced and not loud enough for even coffee shop applications. Ok for guitar but practically useless for live vocals.

My friend has a CM-30 from 2005. It is MUCH louder than the one I just bought. Also he paid about half the price.

This will be used with my keyboards for doing many music events every month. The sound is unbelievable. When I saw the size I was a little unsure but when I heard it, I was blown away by the sound. It's also so easy to grab and go because of the small size, carry handle and light weight.

Comments about Roland CM-30 Cube Monitor:

I bought two of these. I used them with a Beatbuddy drum machine pedal in my guitar rig. I run the drums through these in stereo, lay down a bass track, then A/B over to my amp and play chords and lead guitar over the top of the loops I've created. The monitors are full and warm sounding. They sound much bigger than they really are. I'd recommend for a small coffee shop, house concert type set up. I think once you got into a room that would accommodate more than 50 people they might not project enough. But they really are killer sounding.

Comments about Roland CM-30 Cube Monitor:

Great speaker, very sturdy and very small to carry. I use this with an A/B switcher and a Beatbuddy drum pedal to jam along with my guitar amp. I run the drum pedal and the rhythm guitar through the Roland via my looper, then switch to the guitar amp for lead work. The Roland has a lot of bass and treble and represents the drums and guitar really well, but when you crank the guitar amp past two it can easily drown out the Roland. I may buy another and rum them in stereo as it does sound really, really good. It's well worth the money I think

Comments about Roland CM-30 Cube Monitor:

The monitor was as described and looked like new (in fact, I only remembered it was used when I opened the email asking me for a review!).
I only use it with my electronic drum for home practice ("practice" is even a big word, I'm more just having fun, really). Sometimes headphones are not the feeling you're going for, or you just wanna show off, and this is absolutely perfect.
I can't talk for using the cube in a band setting, I'm alone in my living room (or with someone singing and stereo blasting) but I never used it at more than 50% power so I'm guessing it could be useful!

Comments about Roland CM-30 Cube Monitor:

The sound this tiny box puts out is surprising. It puts out rich highs and lows. And there's plenty of connectivity options as well. t can be pretty loud, so it works well as a personal monitor to a degree, like a small jazz club, nothing massive. I hooked it up to my Alesis DM10 eDrums and it sounds exquisite. The cm30 takes very very very little room as well. You'll be amazed at its size. If by chance you do get it and use it right away and here some pinging or distortion, play something thru it for a few hours like an ipod or the likes there of. It will go away, trust me
