OVERVIEW

Versatile amp for the stage or studio, with iOS connectivity.

Building on the top-level tone and rock-solid reliability that's made the CUBE name famous, the all-new CUBE-GX series turns up the heat with even more versatile operation and connectivity for Apple's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The flagship CUBE-80GX packs a punch with 80 big watts of power and a custom-designed 12-inch speaker, delivering first-class performance in a compact amp that's ready for the stage. 11 COSM amp types and three independent channels-including a fully programmable SOLO channel-put a huge range of tones at your command, with remote control of channel switching, effects, and more via the optional GA-FC Foot Controller. i-CUBE LINK takes practice and mobile recording to a new level, providing a simple onboard audio interface for working with music apps on your favorite iOS devices.

VERSATILE TONES AND THREE INDEPENDENT CHANNELS
The CUBE-80GX features a wide range of COSM amp types and three independent channels for maximum tonal versatility. The JC CLEAN channel provides the renowned clean tone of Roland's famous JC-120, while the LEAD channel offers ten different amp choices, from blackface clean to Brit overdrive to the original EXTREME amp for massive, high-gain metal riffs. A third SOLO channel is completely programmable, allowing you to store all settings from either the JC CLEAN or LEAD channel, along with EQ and effects.

TOP-QUALITY EFFECTS AND ONBOARD TUNER
Three separate effects sections supply pro guitar processing right onboard the CUBE-80GX, with simple controls for dialing up great tones with ease. The EFX section offers five stompbox-type effects, while the dedicated DELAY section provides two different delay types. REVERB is included as well, with your choice of vintage spring emulation or a studio-style plate. The CUBE-80GX also features a chromatic/manual tuner, conveniently built right into the amp!

I-CUBE LINK: BUILT-IN INTERFACE FOR IOS DEVICES
Onboard the CUBE-80GX is Roland's innovative i-CUBE LINK interface, which lets you integrate with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using a real guitar amp with great tone. Unlike typical bulky and inconvenient iOS guitar interfaces, i-CUBE LINK connects to your device's audio jack quickly and simply with the included cable, providing two-way communication with your favorite music apps. With i-CUBE LINK, you can play along with music tracks and send studio-quality guitar tones with effects straight into the recording app of your choice. The versatile i-CUBE LINK jack can also be used as a simple stereo input, enabling you to plug in nearly any music player or audio device and play it through the CUBE-80GX.

CUBE JAM APP: POWERFUL, FUN AND FREE
Available for free from the App Store, the Roland CUBE JAM app turns your iOS device into a fun command center for jamming, recording, and learning. Play back commercial songs and minus-one tracks through the CUBE-80GX via i-CUBE LINK and riff along for hours with the amp's great tones. CUBE JAM also records audio through the i-CUBE LINK connection, letting you capture your jams with a single touch. After recording, you can adjust the volume of your guitar and backing music independently in the app, then export your mix to a 16-bit, 44.1kHz WAV file. CUBE JAM also includes powerful tools for music practice, including independent speed and pitch adjustment of audio playback, Center Cancel to remove solos and create your own jam tracks, and more.

I have a Cube 80XL and absolutely love it. I wanted to buy another but discovered it had been replaced by the 80GX. The 80GX is a completely different amp and I was very disappointed. From the outside it looks familiar but I couldn't duplicate the great sound I was getting with the XL so sadly I ended up selling it. I will see if I can find a used XL somewhere.

Comments about Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amplifier is absolutely mind-blowing. I didn't think it was possible for a solid state amplifier to accurately mimic the fullness and body of a tube amp, but the Cube has one of the best clean sounds I've ever heard, rivaling that of tube amps twice the price. The amp is packed with features, and has proven over and over to be gig-worthy. Personally, I use this amplifier for jazz and blues, and it works well. The clean sound is round and fills the room with a dark, luscious clean. This amp is also great for practicing because it's packed with more features than you'll ever need, and the clean and crunch settings are to die for. My only complaints about this amp are that 1) the high-gain setting is very brittle and fizzy. Granted, it's one of the best high-gain sounds from any solid state amp I've ever played (just as a rule of thumb, you'll never get great high-gain sounds unless you're playing through a tube amp). 2) This amp is extraordinarily heavy. One of the advantages to playing a solid state amp is normally that it gigs well because it's so light--this is simply not the case here with the cube.

Overall, this amp is wonderful. There's a reason why John Petrucci uses this amp as his own personal practice tool, and that's because this amp simply kicks butt.

Comments about Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

After considering several amps, I chose the Cube 80gx over other options because I found it to be the best combination of tone, power and weight. The control layout is straightforward making it easy to dial in great tone. The effects are pretty good and may help simplify your rig (I only use a touch of reverb). 90% of the time, I use the JC Clean channel. I play jazz and this amp produces a superb warm, clean tone. My ES-175 sounds amazing through this amp.

As a gigging pro for many years, I used a Roland Jazz Chorus amp. That amp had the greatest clean tone and stereo chorus I had ever heard, but its distortion was horribly bad. The Cube 80gx captures that amazing clean tone of the Jazz Chorus amp but also has decent crunch and distortion when you need it. Way more versatile than its much-more-expensive JC big brother AND you can carry this amp easily (unlike the fairly heavy and bulky jazz chorus). I also played a Polytone mini brute IV for years which was also a great clean amp but not very versatile (one trick pony).

This Roland amp is every bit as good a jazz amp as any I've played, but quite a bit more portable and versatile . So far, I am really enjoying this Roland amp!

Comments about Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I have played amps with 2 twelve inch speakers for thirty five years, however, since gigging with the Cube 80, I have not missed the second speaker or the bulk and weight of a twin twelve amp. I play easy listening and smooth jazz as a solo guitarist.
This amp provides warm clean sound with all the power I need. I can also get a smooth overdrive with great sustain for certain solos. I like the solid construction of the cabinet without Tolex covering, which usually tears in a short time. You can check me out at: www.showcaseyourmusic.com/richardlafrate

Comments about Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I recently sold a Roland JC-120 that I owned for 8 years. It was a great amp with clean tones and nice amenities plus the fact that I never had a problem with the amp. It was my decision to 'downsize'. The JC weighed 63 lbs. The new Cube-80 is 32 lbs. To me the trade has proved to be exactly what I needed. The 80 is as clean, loud enough to play most anywhere and the added effects are very good with super ease of use.

Comments about Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I use this amp for most of my gigs now. I was using Fender amps and loved the cleans, but my back and knees didn't like the weight of tube amps. This 80gx is loud enough, light, and is a good pedal platform on the clean channel. The effects are real good too.

Comments about Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

We do a Tuesday night jam and there are always different people playing on any given Tuesday night.
I finally decided that enough was enough, I got tired of lugging around 45,50 and 60 lbs. combo amps just to go and jam ! I also would bring a small pedal board with a tuner, chorus and delay as well, and of course, my GUITAR !!!! So I decided to take a chance with the Roland Cube 80 GX and was I surprised !!!! You know it's really easy to become a tube amp snob, and I'm there !!! I own, and will keep, my Fender, Marshall, Mesa Boogie and Peavey tube amplifiers, HOWEVER, the Roland 80 GX is a very versatile, good sounding amplifier that can be set up essentially as a three channel amp with various effects and a built in tuner. The 80 GX seems to be powerful enough to play medium size clubs and you could certainly play any size venue by putting it through a PA. If you buy the optional Roland 6 button foot switch you will find that you have an extremely versatile little package with great sound and ample power !!!
I do not consider this to be a modelling amp, although it seems to reference different amp models.
I just find the sounds that I like and find useful, and then use them !!! I'm not worried about how well it can copy another amplifier's sound I think sounds fine on it's own merits !!!

I use to recommend the Peavey Valve King 1x12 50 watt amp or Fender Blues Jr., for the guys that have to have a Fender, as a good first amplifier for the advancing serious student Guitarist, I'm adding the Roland Cube 80 GX to that short list, I THINK IT'S THAT GOOD !!!!

This amp has great tone and plenty of punch. I have several top of the line tube amps and Cube 80 can sure keep up with the heavy and expensive tube amps (which I still use). The portability and the features are great. Give this guy a look....it is outstanding.

Comments about Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I always considered these toys until I saw a musician on a cruise ship use one (the model before) along with a Zen drive and it sounded great in a reasonably size club with no miking of the amp.. Later I found out in New Orleans they are popular at clubs. There is one thing you must know. Watch the Roland demo of this amp and write down the amp settings they use in the demo. This should be your starting point for each model. This is a very easy amp to use, no multiple LCD screens to deal with. I also sounds great an low and high volumes. The headphone jack puts out near identical tone to what you hear from the speaker. I use a CBC PEDALS Zen clone and also a Soul food pedal wit it (completely different sounds).

Comments about Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I use for practice and small club performances. It has great sound on the clean and the effects channels. Relatively easy to get the sounds you want, but it takes some practice and work to find them. Cleans are clean and great. I bought at local Guitar Center, parent of Musiciansfriend.com, on sale, and beat the price of the same amp on the used market. You will need the GA-FC foot controller for performances. If you'll note the other reviewers; all are either 5 star, or 4 star with very glowing comments. For some reason, there is one commenter that says he got a bad one. But this amp is built like a tank. I've got an old Roland Cube 40, original model, I purchased new decades ago, that just needs the pots lubed every few years. Roland makes a great product. I'm glad after checking out other well powered amps with on-board effects, that I came home to Roland again. It sounds great, is relatively easy on my bad legs and back, and has plenty of juice for small to medium clubs. Unless you're a tube purist, maxed out metal rocker playing pavilions, or just want to blow the roof off your house, this amp will get you there. The inputs and outputs are fine. It would be nice to have a straight external speaker out. That is the only drawback on this. You can use the Ilink with any compatible plugin source, and are not limited to Appleware.

Comments about Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I purchased a pair of these; I dig the JC120 clean channel without the weight of a JC120. Having two, I get full stereo separation. I also got the GA-FC and can use one to control both amps. With an ABY and GA-FC, maybe a compressor I could gig with these, or even just one. The built in effects are very good even with limited controls.

I'm using these as a clean stereo platform for my Boss GT-100 when not running it direct to FRFR. Small, portable, lightweight, sounds great if you like the sound of JC120. 80W is loud, though I'd like to see Roland make a Cube-100GX with an XLR out.
