When i bought my KC-550, money was NOT an option. I was only interested in quality and performance. While at a local music store, I told the keyboard rep to set the Roland and the QSC K12 (which boasts a 1,000 watts) side by side, so he did. Then I flatened the eq's on both and set the volumes correctly on both. Then I took a yamaha psr-e423 and turned on the drum machine. We Both agreed that the Roland naturally sounded better. When I maxed out both volumes, we were both amazed that the Roland was very, very competetive! The QSC had a slightly higher resonance, But if you know sound as i do (I'm a professional sound engineer as well) then you know that thinner eq's produces a higher resonance. That was the only difference. Believe me when I tell you- QSC needs to cut that out! In many of today's power ratings, continuous power is only 25% of max power. This means that the QSC's true power is around 250 watts. I like the QSC's weight over the Roland, but at the end of the day, I chose the Roland with no regrets.

After 10 years of using a kc 550, I finally retired my amp. In live band situations it was dificult to get enough volume to keep up with other cabs and drums combined. It is fairly loud but not quite enough. Low end was good and not a problem. The horn tweeter finally blew out on mine trying to compete for volume. Overall I've not been impressed with the sound quality. It's OK sound quality but it's not stereo and I'm not buying 2 of them at 70 lbs each. One is enough to drag around. I found that I had to tweek the EQ a bit to get a reasonable tone quality and overall was not extremely happy with the tone. Thought I would leave a review after 10 years of useage. I recently purchased thru Musicians Friend a treynor K4 amp and hoping it will solve my issues with the roland. It's 60 lbs, 300 watts, true stereo, with 3 amps built in, 5 drivers, compact, and a bit more money than the roland. Happy hunting out there.

Comments about Roland KC-550 180W Keyboard Amp:

Wanted to love it ... and almost did - solid, heavy (lol), loud. The problem was sound quality when using concert piano (Roland RD-800). About an octave above middle 'C' it has a crackling sound, perhaps a bad horn-tweeter. Even the wife complained and she is almost tone-deaf. It wasn't so noticeable for non-percussive sounds such as organ or strings, but that isn't what I play. Given there are several reports of people having tweeter problems, I choose to return rather than exchange. Also, there are some reports that the KC-550 doesn't render acoustic piano very well ... which seems odd since one would think it was made to pair up with the RD-800. If you don't play acoustic piano settings and are willing to risk tweeter problems, it is a great amp.

Comments about Roland KC-550 180W Keyboard Amp:

I bought my Roland 700NX Keyboard with high expectations. I selected a Seismic Audio PA both because of good reviews and because after calling them, they assured me that the equipment they recommended would be perfect for the keyboard. The sound was fuzzy and the tones were short and brittle. I complained and SA claimed that it had to be the keyboard. They wouldn't help. I finally rented another PA, which was fine, so I had proven that it was an SA problem, but they didn't care. Terrible products and terrible customer service. I finally bought the KC550 and now I have the sound I expected. The KC550 is overkill for my needs, but the sound is perfect and that makes me overjoyed.

Comments about Roland KC-550 180W Keyboard Amp:

I use this for saxophone for jam sessions and small room parties with backing tracks. Also use it as a monitor when playing with bands that use a lousy sound man who knows nothing about a sax. If he does not have me in the mix at the same level as the other instruments I simply turn the amp volume up a little and point the speaker toward the dance floor and all is fine. It has the power and the 15" speaker produces a sax good tone.

Comments about Roland KC-550 180W Keyboard Amp:

I have been uswing this Roland since the price was way cheaper than now. About 22 years. It is still kicking. It handles my Roland FP, YAMAHA'S (few diferent models) Korg Tritons and precision vocals, all in outdoos venues, which is the most challenging of all venues. I have dropped it out of my suburban and have never had it in the repair shop. I would replace it, in a heart beat, at any price.

Comments about Roland KC-550 180W Keyboard Amp:

I had an old kc500, got it used and played it for yrs till I wore it out. It still works just cuts in and out with low voltage. My Kc550 is about 8 or 10 yrs old and it still works (although im gonna buy a new one and move it to my B-Rig). I was once told by a Guitar player it was the first time he'd heard a Piano sound with a good tone outside like that in his life! It handles Bass like crazy on splits. I have been using it 2 to 4 gigs a week for around 10 yrs beating it around in an old gear trailer with no case! Just buy it! But get the 550, the 15 kicks for Keys.

Comments about Roland KC-550 180W Keyboard Amp:

Intended for both keyboard & bass (1 at a time). Channel 1 (of 4) is "balanced" and seems to be much louder than the others, at least with a bass guitar. Large speaker is great for bass. Very heavy, and the only handle is on the top. Without a gorilla handy, it really needs side handles! It comes with wheels, but you will not want to move this from place to place. Electronics give many options.
