Small and mighty, the stereo Mobile Cube amp can handle all types of electronic instruments and audio devices, and can be used anywhere, anytime. Small Size, Big Sound

At just 11-1/16" (W) x 4-1/4" (D) x 7" (H), no larger than a briefcase, Mobile Cube is a traveler's dream. Battery-powered, it can be operated anywhere -- just plug in, turn on, and jam. Two high-performance speakers provide stereo sound that defies Mobile Cube's physical size.

Before I review, I would like to say I am reviewing this product from a perspective as a gigging instrumental acoustic guitarist.

Had to do an outdoor gig with no electric outlets available, that's when i looked into buying this thing, and it did the trick. Also had to fly somewhere across the country to do a gig where the venue didn't have a PA system, and I was able to pack this in my luggage, and this little thing did the job.

For a tiny amp only a bit bigger than a Kleanax box, this thing is plenty loud. It's able to emmenate the volume to within about a 500 square feet coverage. Even louder if you play a distored electric guitar, as electric gutiar pickups don't consume as much power as an acoustic pickup.

This is the perfect amp if you travel alot and need to fit something on the plane, for your living room, as a practice amp, for porch picking, camping, small coffeehouse venues (under 500 square feet), busking, or any scenario where there's no electric outlet nearby.

Granted, this small little thing will not replace a PA system or something like an Acoustasonic Jr. I do a weekly coffeehouse gig (about 500 square feet) with my Fender Acoustasonic JR, and one day, my Acoustasonic JR wasn't working, so I brought in this little Roland instead. Granted, it was loud enough to fill up the whole entire coffeehouse volumewise, and although I much prefer to gig with this as it's super lightweight and won't hurt my back like the Acoustasonic JR, the sound didn't have the full definition as the Acoustasonic JR, or a real PA. Because of the tiny speakers, you only get treble, no bass response, less definition overall.

However, as a portable battery-powered amp, this thing is awesome. It also serves mutiple purposes, I regularily plug my ipod to this and use it as a home stero system in my room.

This might be good for some people. But for Real singing and Guitar Playing... Get a CubeStreet. It has separate Guitar and Mic inputs and a place to plug-in an MP3 player. Yeah... It cost twice as much, but it is worth it.
Y'know how somethings are "multi-function" but not really particularly good at any of those functions? That is this product.
It is Okay... but for the price? That ain't change! You can do better for less money.

Uh, I don't recommend this product. And I LOVE Roland products.
Lots of features that I found pretty useless. Just be sure of what you need. I busk with guitar and a Roland CubeStreet. Sometimes I take my MicroCube instead. I don't sing. I don't play with an MP3 player. Therefore the limited effects selection sux. It does have reverb, but the chorus is either on or off. No adjustment. There is NO "Jazz Chorus" or "Vox" or "Marshall" emulators... Like on the MicroCube, or CubeStreet, or MicroCubeRX.
The housing feels like a cheap portable radio. Y'know, that Walmart radio that you took to beach and ruined? Like that. If you drop it, you will break it. (yeah, I know... Don't drop it) But if you are playing-out with this thing like they Claim you can... It needs to be sturdier.

Comments about Roland Mobile Cube Battery-Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

Don't get this! The audio cuts out on peaks with a loud click or pop. This is a so-called protection circuit. The little amp is useless for street or live performance for this reason. I can not find any posting on the web that explains how to defeat this "feature".

Comments about Roland Mobile Cube Battery-Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this little gem two years ago, and have loved it ever since. I use it as a harmonica (both chromatic and blues) amp, love the chorus and reverb rendition for my harps!
HOWEVER, BEWARE!!! The on-off switch is not recessed, and several times I found myself out of power because the pwr sw had been depressed during transport. So, I glued a protective box around it, and that worked OK - batteries now good for about a couple of months without use, but died over time, even Lithium AA's. It seems the unit draws power (<0.5Ma) with the power off. Only solution: leave one battery out between uses. I may take the unit apart and install a recessed power switch, but I haven't got that desparate yet!
But, other than the power drain problem, it's a great performer and well worth the price!

I had reservations about buying this from reading a few of the negative reviews. But I compared other portable amps and decided to buy this. It is a GREAT little amp. Works excellent as a guitar amp or to amplify an mp3 player. I am very glad I chose this. My only wishlist would be to be able to adjust the chorus, but then again that is what effects pedals are for.

Comments about Roland Mobile Cube Battery-Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

Dound quality is excellent, battery lifetimes are sufficient (I get 7-8 hours of use out of a set of NiMH batteries). It doesn't have many effects, but I don't miss them. The batterues are easy to change, and I always keep a set of 8 fullly-charged Just In Case. And in fact I can't think of any missing features.
The on-board effects are reasonable, expecially the reverb. To my ears the chorus effect is just weird. The headphone jack is surprisingly useful, aand a lot more convenient than the alternatives.
It's quite sturdy and will hold up to most forms of abuse.
I wish it was a little cheaper.

          Waste of Money

          By John Stoneburner

Comments about Roland Mobile Cube Battery-Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

The two channel capability, along with battery power, make this perfect for busking on the streets. However, for the price, this unit should at least come with its own AC adapter. If the retailer offers an extended warranty, you might want to consider it if you purchase this unit.
Purchased this unit for amplified street performing. Right out of the box, the Mobile Cube seemed to have issues. Whether using the mic input or instrument input, the unit would cut out at even moderate volumes. I changed batteries several times, still it would cut out. I thought, ay first, that perhaps the unit was overly sensitive to harmonicas, but the unit even cut out out when playing through the guitar. Finally, for comparison, I played through my friend's Mobile Cube, and it never cut out once. By the time I figured this all out, it was well beyond 30 days, eliminating my chances of replacement from the place of purchase, Musician's Friend. I still have the maufacturer's warranty, but with shipping and an $80 per hour labor fee, it is hardly worth the effort and expense to send it in for warranty repair. I have used a Micro Cube for years with no problem. I have since purchased the Roland Cube Street, which so far, as worked out great (and comes with its own AC adapter. My recommendation, for what it's worth, is to pay a little extra and go with the Cube Street.

This little amp is great for a quick set up to practice. While it won't replace your larger amps, it's great for just noodling around and maybe recording an idea you have. May even be good to use while recording tracks in your song. If you don't go in expecting it to sound as good as your larger amps and treat it for what it is, you won't be disappointed. The extra's provided with it are really quite surprising and very useful. I like that it has a dual power ability with batteries or AC adapter as well.

I originally bought the Mobile Cube to fit inside the bag of my homemade electronic bagpipes. It is the perfect size and weight and the reverb and chorus sound great with the bagpipes. I have used this setup outdoors playing "Amazing Grace" for funerals and it easily fills the venue.

I also use the Mobile Cube with my electronic keyboard doing a single act at senior centers. I run my mic into a harmonizer and into the Mobile Cube's mic input. I run the keyboard into the instruments stereo inputs. The sound is very full and is appropriate for groups of 50 people.

All in all, a great purchase for what I do with it.

Comments about Roland Mobile Cube Battery-Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

As I've already stated, what I really like is its small size, light weight along with it's sound quality, amplifying the true tone of the instrument. I also appreciate that it's versatile, supporting both mic and the instrument.

I've not yet found anything I dislike about it.
I use the Mobile Cube to amplify my hammered dulcimer. It is outstanding! It is small enough to transport without any effort and powerful enough to give me just the amplification I need. And its ability to support a mic and the instrument simultanelously is an added feature.
I am impressed with the clarity and trueness to the instrument's tone it provides. It turns out to be just right for me.
It is well worth the price, a great value.

Comments about Roland Mobile Cube Battery-Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I got one of these little gems about 4 months ago. A great practice amp for sure. I've even used at some small house party gigs, strolling gigs and also at some open air farmers markets on a weekly basis. I sing and play my Martin D-16 RGT through it and also my Takamine 12 string Jumbo and it handles it well. I don't put the volume up all the way I run it about half, batteries last longer that way. The chorus is really nice but no control over it, on or off. People can't believe how much sound comes out of this little guy. I think if I could make one change on this I would put in a little bit bigger speakers, but for the price you really can't go wrong.

My wife is a singer, I play accordion and sing harmony. And I can use it with my Roland e-300 and Vocalist 5! Wow! And with all this I still get full power. Love the phaser and eco features + my wife is going to take it out to do solo Karaoke.
I particularly needed it because I have only one ear and 34% in the other. Playing accordion, hearing the bass is difficult without the squeezebox connected so I looked for something with just accordion and one voice feature and got more than I can use at once! I've been a Roland user for over 25 years. Congratulations to me for being patient and a hearty congratulations to the best! ROLAND!! By the way, I bought a "return" and it was defective. After sending it back (per your instructions), I received a brand-spaninkin' new one right out of the factory. I can't say enough about it. Does everything the demos do!

Comments about Roland Mobile Cube Battery-Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp for use with my travel guitar to cut down on the amount of equipment I needed to carry. The sound is impressive for a small unit and the ability to feed guitar and mike in to separate channels is great. Effects are up to Roland's usual high standard and the acoustic guitar amp simulator is inmpressive when mixed with the chorus effect. Only minus is the audio input from my mp3/CD player does not have a volume control. You need to set the level on the mp3 unit before connecting.Overall a great purchase for anyone travelling who doesn't want to lug a heavy amp around.

all it promised and more, more than an amp, more than another instrument. two examples. I use it with my Nano at the Vets home to play old songs from I-tunes. Two: I connect my nano and play along with Fats Domino recordings from the late '40s and early 50s which have no guitar. I can easily hook uop a visiting friend. . Tone quality is rich. and wide. we are growing togeather

Comments about Roland Mobile Cube Battery-Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I travel quite a bit and wanted a small, mobile rig that I can carry with me as I travel. I also have a pocket pod which I use for amp/effects patches. The two together with my iPod make a pretty doggone good practice rig. I don't know that I would want to gig with it, but for low-volume practice, or a jam session with an acoustic player it is perfect! It is built like a tank. It also sounds very good for a speaker system for my iPod. I was listening to Christmas music on my iPod amped through the Mobile Cube this morning and it sounded great. Nice piece of gear, if something happened to it I would buy another.

I play a taylor T5 koa top through this thing. Doesn't make sense, does it? use it for practice, and it sounds good. Good effects, nice overdrive. even a fairly good acoustic. Embarrassed to say that I really do enjoy this little thing. I have pedals that cost more. Can't go wrong with this one.

I purchased the Roland Mobile Cube after trying on dozens of 'portable' amps. Most were bigger than my car. I am a HoopDance instructor looking for a tiny & powerful amp with a clean sound that would support a mic & an MP3 player. My brothers are musicians who steered me towards this gem, and I've been delighted with my investment.
