Comments about Roland VB-99 V-Bass System:
I had the Roland VB-99 for about a year and love it I do gigs all around the New Orleans area, Every kind of music and 6 different bands. This unit allowed me to stay ahead of the other bassists. Im able to play upright patches, fretless, and loads of funk and synth patches. Its is not that hard to get around to edit. It usb to your computer so you can see all the editing controls on one page. I love the D Beam effect when I play solo Stratocaster on my bass. There are some sweet jazz guitar sounds on it too.My unit came with the GK-3 pickup that went on in 10 mins. I brought the stand and FC-300 pedal controller too.Roland has been my choice in bass effects from the begining. Take a little time to read the manuel and checkout the videos on Utube.Having so much fun with this product. Oh I almost forgot to say its also a great interface for recording
Comments about Roland VB-99 V-Bass System:
This is the most recent addition to the roland catalog for bass effects and although it is a hefty investment, it is an amazing product. The first thing before buying is to consider that you will need a number of accessories to get the most out the VB99. One essential product (others are handy but not essential eg. foot controller, stand) is the GK-3B pickup that costs an extra ~$200. This needs to be installed on the bass and may not be compatible with all basses (due to placement issues) so make sure you have a bass that is able to accomadate the GK-3B. It takes some time and effort to install and can be glued or screwed into the bass. After installation the pick up can be plugged into the front of the VB99 and you are ready to go.The VB99 has >100 pre-programmed sounds. Take your pick, you can make your bass sound like a standup bass, 80s lead guitar, church organ. Some sounds are better than others but that depends on taste, Also programmed are sounds for various popular basses (Rick,FPB,FJB) with different strings and effects. The other feature is that you can create you own bass sounds by mixing in different sounds, For eg. a FJB mixed with Rick through a number of programmed amps. You can even pick which pickup on each virtual bass you want to use. There are just endless possibilities it will take me months to expolre this unit can do. You can also hook the VB99 to a MIDI and your PC/Mac to record/add/edit etc.Two new features are the D-Beam which can be used to hold a sound/musical passage(like a loop just by moving your hand across the top of the unit) and a ribbon controller that is similar to the ones found on keyboards where you can fade/bend your sound. The VB99 is expensive and takes time and effort to install the GK3B, but if you are a recording musician or if you like variety with your sounds there is nothing else like it. I am not a big effects guy and get bored with them after a short time, but I dont think I can get bored with the VB99 because of its endless possibilities and sounds.
