    A milestone in guitar-modeling technology.

With 3 powerful processors plus expressive performance controls such as a ribbon controller and dual D BEAMs, it offers near-endless creative options. The light-sensing D Beam controllers offers direct manipulation over a variety of preset options such as rotary speed (Slow/Fast). The Roland VG-99 has a versatile housing that allows for on-stage, tabletop, or rack mounting, the VG-99 V-Guitar synth system raises the bar in guitar-modeling and performance technology.

The VG-99 contains a wide range of guitars and amplifier models, and it even models two signal paths at once. For example, one virtual guitar could be a humbucker-equipped electric and the other a nylon-string guitar. Add to this the sound of the actual guitar being played, and it's possible to simultaneously have the sound of three different guitars playing simultaneously.

Modeled guitar, amp and effects paths can be active at the same time, or they can be dynamically switched or blended. Players can control the switching behavior between virtual guitars and/or amps by foot controllers, buttons on the unit, or according to picking dynamics.

The VG-99 synthesizer includes an onboard guitar-to-MIDI converter for direct connection to keyboards, sound modules and soft synths, a digital out and a USB port for direct audio and MIDI connection to computers. The Roland VG-99 also boasts an intuitive and state-of-the-art on-screen patch editor.

A Freeze feature onboard the VG-99 makes it possible to play a chord or a single note and have Freeze sustain it until you decide to let it end, giving guitarists controlled and unlimited sustain.

Each modeled guitar in the VG-99 synth can have its own tuning: the virtual humbucker electric could be tuned down four or five steps for a heavy sound, for example, while the nylon string could be tuned as a 12-string, and also tuned down four or five steps at the same time. Any user-defined tunings are also supported so the player can switch instantly between tuning setups without physically switching guitars or having to manually retune.

Versatile I/O, including USB, S/PDIF and XLR provide pro connections for virtually every type of music production and performance on stage to professional studio recording.

    Amazing

    By Sprockett

Comments about Roland VG-99 V-Guitar Multi Effects Processor System:

I have owned the Roland VG-99 for over a year now and I'm still discovering things it can do that blow me away. Apart from some sensitivity tweaks there's been no problems controlling it with a GK-3 modified Strat or my Godin LGX-SA. I have it mounted on the PDS-10 stand and use the FC-300, and it has become an invaluable performance tool allowing me to change seamlessly from acoustic to electric, double up the guitars, add synths, etc. Ribbon control and D-Beam make for truly unique performance controls live and in the studio.Programming on the unit itself is pretty simple, but using the software and a USB connection to a computer is so mind-blowingly easy I never want to look at another little LCD screen again. Everything should be this simple.Definitely not a cheap addition to the setup, but if I lost it I would buy it again.

    Amazing power

Comments about Roland VG-99 V-Guitar Multi Effects Processor System:

This device offers several features that are so amazing, that each alone is worth the price. What you really have here is two complete guitars, each with their own dedicated amp, and each with their own top-notch effects. Some of these effects include string-specific pitch bend. This allows you to do simple stuff, like a b-bender, or can allow you to smoothy bend (using the foot pedal) several strings in different direction. For example, you could bend the high E string up 3 frets, and the B string down 4, which would turn the 4th into an octave. Further, you can do this on just one of the two guitars. As with any device with this much power, some of the sounds are hits, and others are misses. I wish the sounds were a little more touch-response. Don't expect to get the feel of an OCD pedal in the distortion section, but do expect a bewildering array of distorted tones. The front controls are really easy to use, and you can make patch changes very easily. The D-BEAM gives you insanely cool 'Hold' capability, and also allows mid-air pitch bends that are a bit hokey, but also cool. The ribbon controller is a bit of head scratcher, since most guitarists don't have free hands to operate such a device. They should have made that a Bluetooth wireless deal that you could stick onto the surface of your guitar.Roland has some things totally right, like the amazing software to control the unit, and some things way wrong, like the lack of a method to update the firmware via USB! All in all though, this is a keeper.

    Vg 99

Comments about Roland VG-99 V-Guitar Multi Effects Processor System:

Messed with the vg99 at a local music shop for a good hour and was impressed with the quality design and sound that comes from this sucker. just going through the presets one by one to the displeasure of everyone else looking to try it took a good twenty minutes. From heavenly clean tones to sounds equivalent to the blade runner soundtrack, you won't be displeased in everything the vg99 can do.

VG-99 V- Guitar Multi Effects Processor System

    By Carl James Steen

    from upstate N.Y.

Comments about Roland VG-99 V-Guitar Multi Effects Processor System:

This is the best guitar modeling and effects processor I have owned to date. It contains all of the features and options except a routable effects loop I need. When you dig into the parameters and controls of this thing it really shines through for versatility and functions. You need to get the FC-300 to really appreciate the control of this unit. The alternate tunings are pretty cool! I'm having a blast with this little wonder!
