Initially, I really like this. Consider this - out put needs to go directly to a clean place - they recommend a PA system. I'm running it into a clean Fender Reverb and it sounds just fine. Get the aux pedal at the same time, or you can't stop it without an outro.

Instructions are simple & easy. However, using it in a loop is misleading. When looping this should be the LAST single to go out. Look at my pic: Signal begins at the Oxblood - lower right. So, I can use three pedals while building the 1st loop. That signal goes: out of the Beat buddy, into the tuner, straight to the Soul vibe, back to the Red Hall of fame, straight over to the big blue looper. Then, straight into the clean amp.

Just remember - the instructions are confusing for looping. In my case, the looper is the LAST thing in the chain. But, I wanted the drum song in my loop.

Worked on this item for a piano-playing friend who purchased the Beat Buddy. We spent 3+hours on this learning how to use the item, downloading the Beat Manager software, reading the manual, etc. Could not get the software to work on my Macbook, nor could we get the pedal to connect to the Mac via USB. Tried many times - no luck. This software should be named the "Not Ready For Primetime" Manager. We did enjoy the many varying beats on the pedal, and my friend has decided to keep the pedal and use it "as is" -meaning, only holding out dim hopes that the software manager will someday work with a Mac so we can organize the sounds and download new ones.

Comments about Singular Sound BeatBuddy:

I am very happy with this product. It has a usable initial included beat selection though several genres I would never use. Most of the common patterns are represented. The random drum fills are superb. And it does mimic a live drummer. I bought the foot switch that is an extra and its worth the expense. For a solo performer, I wanted drum patterns to enhance and augment my playing. A different drum fill each time you call for one is a nice feature. It makes it less tedious and synthetic to the ear as drum machines do and more organically closer to live. I'm not into devices like this that require online updates, so unless I have problems with the included SD card software, I don't know how much updating I'd do. I suppose a critical comment is maybe it could come with a bigger initial pattern library then the ruffly eight or so patterns each Genre. But the pedal is easy use and learn and it doesn't require too painful of a learning curve. For the money, a better instruction booklet would be nice without having to go on-line for a complete booklet. It just came with a quick start guide. But to sum up, it does what I wanted it to do and it sounds as good as any drum machine in my opinion and handy to be in stomp box form. It seems durable enough so far.

    Comments about Singular Sound BeatBuddy:

I'm a gigging acoustic guitar musician and I use a simplified rig so I'm able to set up and pack up easily The only pedals I use are a Digitech Vocalizer and a Distortion pedal for when I use a Tele. I played around with other drum machines & backing tracks but found them cumbersome to use.
    Enter the BeatBuddy.

Unboxed it, plugged it in and put on a set of headphones to listen to the different beats and to figure out how to use the pedal for start, stop, transitions and outros. I did not purchase the BeatBuddy auxiliary pedal but much to my surprise and old two button stomp box I had left from an old Crate Acoustic Amp worked perfectly with the BeatBuddy. While the current BeatBuddy auxiliary pedal is momentary, my Crate is latching. However, the BeatBuddy will set up for either type and works flawlessly with my latching switches.

After figuring out the basics, time to plug it in. I set it up to run independently from my Vocalizer so it is not part of the signal chain. I plugged it into the Aux input on my SA-220 P.A. which has the benefit of having a separate volume control so I can easily change the volume of the drum kit.
First off let me say that when it comes to pedal work, I'm a klutz (which is why I keep it simple) who's fat feet make pedal work difficult. NO PROBLEM with the BeatBuddy. I was able to control start, stop, fills, cymbal hits and transitions flawlessly on first attempt.

It comes loaded with an amazing number of beats and a good number of drum kits. You can load in a song (beats) and then change the drum set, tempo, change fills in or out, just incredibly flexible. You can add more drum kits and beats at very reasonable prices from Singular Sound.

For gigging, you can set up your playlist and using the Aux pedal move forward and backward in the list again, incredibly was to use even for a klutz like me. Did I mention it has MIDI too.

      Comments about Singular Sound BeatBuddy:

Bought midi controlled x4 looper with BeatBuddy. Practice will never be a dull metronome again. Beat Buddy keeps things in sync. 2 channel looper has adding rhythm, bass, guitar harmonies, most anything else you can think of easy. Looper playback is exactly what was recorded without coloration or noise. Beats and loops can be uploaded to computer, edited, and downloaded for playback. Number of free on-line loops and beats already available. Amazing 1 person can sound like a full band all from the convenience of pedal devices. Played in a couple of cover bands when I was young, nothing serious. Now in my 60's I'm finding time to play again. Pedal chain: Korg multi-effects, Fender AB switch, Ditto x4, BeatBuddy.

Great sound. A lot of fun. Takes practice to use. Seems difficult to use with a computer but I have a hard time using computers anyway. It would be better to separate the controls from the footswitch.

          Comments about Singular Sound BeatBuddy:

If you are in need of a drummer, this is the way to go. This pedal along with the software you use on your computer PC/MAC to make any changes, takes a Drum Machine to a whole new level. I have owned Roland, Alesis, and Yamaha, but this one is a whole step above, in sound and features. There is a learning curve, but you will not be disappointed at all.
Has fill on demand, which by the way is various fill types. Start/Stop, and intro, and these can all be changed to suit to taste. Plus many styles of drum sounds. Also with Software like OnSong and a Bluetooth devise like puc+ you can program the BeatBuddy with your IPAD, unreal. Switch to your song on OnSong and the Beatbuddy will go right to the beat you programmed in the BeatBuddy. No more looking for the patch you need to play. It is instant. Also you can control more then just one, add a looper and pass the MIDI commands unto a looper and never hold up a show again. You can also add another Pedal for MORE control. I am just barley scratching the surface here.
I love this thing, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

They have a great forum where you trade songs and learn all about the devise. Insane how good this thing sounds, not just it's feature rich, but it really sounds good. This thing is Brutal Good.

            Comments about Singular Sound BeatBuddy:

I am a drummer as well as a guitarist. The drum sounds through my acoustic amp are authentic, realistic, customizable and controllable at will. Can prepare set lists in advance that are able to be accessed on stage by clicking a foot switch both within AND between songs. This means you don't have to bend over and bother with knobs, etc. when performing.

                Comments about Singular Sound BeatBuddy:

Basic functions are intuitive. Down loading to computer and creating your own folder of songs....not so easy. I had to contact their "help desk" person several times. To get that contact number, I had to get from Musicians Friend (the contact number is nowhere to be found in the Beat Buddy manual or on their website.) It's like they really don't want to talk to you but just want you using the various you tube videos they have posted. Once I got to their guy he was very helpful and answered my questions. Putting the help desk number in the manual would solve that issue. Other than that issue, great piece of equipment.

                    Comments about Singular Sound BeatBuddy:

I got the BeatBuddy as a timing unit for my Pigtronix Infinity looper. My intention is to only send its output to an in-ear monitor, so the audience cannot hear it, however I may change that thinking over time. The MIDI sync cable for the BeatBuddy is a must for this application. I've never had MIDI work so easily. I plugged a MIDI cable from the BeatBuddy into the Infinity and it just worked, right out of the box. You can even change the tempo on the BeatBuddy while playing back the loop, although it takes a while for the looper to catch up if you move it more than a few clicks.

The other thing I like about this unit is that you can set the tempo using either the tap tempo button, or a dial that displays the beats per minute. I personally do not like using tap tempo, so the ability to dial in the tempo is a big plus.
