OVERVIEW

A stage-ready amplifier that delivers uncompromised tone and uncomplicated operation

The Hot Rod 50 Plus is a 50 watt 2-channel guitar amp head, with independent preamp and master volume controls for each channel. The normal channel is similar to the SLO's Crunch mode, with clean sounds available at lower gain settings. The Overdrive channel is identical to the SLO circuit and gives awesome sustain even at moderate settings. The tone controls shape the sound of both channels and are interactive-meaning each control will effect the others. This gives you the flexibility to dial in all the unique and subtle tones you've been searching for. The Soldano Hot Rod 50 amp head also has a global presence control that lets you add high end sparkle to both channels. Other features include a line level series effects loop, a speaker impedance switch and a channel footswitch.

FEATURES
  • 2-Channels with independent preamp and master volume controls — Normal (uncompressed) and Overdrive (compressed)
  • 50 Watts of Tube Power
  • Tube-buffered serial effects loop
  • A speaker impedance switch (16, 8, 4 ohms)
  • Footswitch for channel switching
  • Handmade in the U.S.A.

Comments about Soldano Hot Rod 50 Plus 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Great amp, period. I would say it is the best all around rock amp I've ever played. Some time ago Soldano changed I believe all of their amps besides the SLO to O'netics transformers. The Hot Rods for sure. These are on par with the DeYoung's from the SLO. Unbelievable clarity and notes just seem to jump off the speakers with "3D" like sound.

Now, if you want a great clean channel, this amp doesn't have it. I would characterize the 2 channels as "rock", and "more rock". It does clean up with the normal channel preamp volume down around 3 but who wants to set it that low when the amp rocks like it does with it turned up higher? Ha Ha. With a good guitar you can get by with riding the volume knob, but Fender cleans don't reside here.

I don't like the effects loop, for two reasons. First, it isn't designed for floor pedals and that is what I like to use. Second, the amp sounds even better when the loop isn't used. To get around this I use a Bad Cat Unleash allowing me to have effects post amp and it also gives me a great attenuator, but that is for another review.

With that said, what this amp DOES have is crazy good rock sounds, and it has it in spades. It has excellent build quality. It has killer looks, and is designed to be super user friendly. It sits better in a live band mix than any other amplifier I've used, including a Soldano Decatone. I like the fact you can bias it, and I like the simple one button foot switch.

Awesome Rock Head!!

Comments about Soldano Hot Rod 50 Plus 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Finally I come across a great quality amp! The tone of this amp is punchy and full with a lot of sustain and very transparent...no more buzzzz in the distortion area as with some of my amps of the past!...and i must say the distortion is awesome! It's a very simple amp thats very well made...not a whole lotta buttons and switches to complicate things, but very straight forward and all about TONE! It has given me a new boost of inspiration, it's hard to put my guitar down now!! Very pleased!!

Plenty of power

Comments about Soldano Hot Rod 50 Plus 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I own this head and it's amazing! The 50 watts of power is perfect for me because I no longer need to use my attenuator. I have a full stack and this head throws more than enough power to make my ears ring.Made in America by Americans...This amp rocks. Many of the well known amp companies have gone the way of outsourcing the assembly of their amps but Soldano thankfully isn't like that. They can and will build an amp to order and use custom order tolex cover...How many other amp companies will do this for you?You get what you pay for in these amps and the build quality is worth the price.

The sound in your head

By

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Soldano Hot Rod 50 Plus 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is the working man's version of the SLO. Cons first: no reverb, channel switching by footswitch only, and shared EQ. Pros: Everything else. Soldano is the underdog of the amp world and it baffles me to understand why. These are handmade amps people in the US. Not somewhere that you can't even pronounce. I've never heard an amp with such pleasing tone. You never have to struggle or throw a ton of effects on it to get a great sound. In fact, you don't really "need" reverb and this amp proves it. Although it sounds REALLY great with it. Cleans up great, take pedals well, and goes to insane distortion without losing note definition. I owned one and foolishly sold it. After searching for years and buying numerous amps trying to get the same tone, I finally sold them and bought this again. I'll never part with it. But hey, if you like giving your money away to corporate executes, poor quality, and foreign workers, go right ahead. Me? My amp shopping days are over. This does every style of music I can think of. I haven't played anything better. If you think you have, you've never played a Soldano.
