This amp has great sounds and versatility. Plenty of power, plenty of features. However, it is more expensive than other comparable combos.
Awesome combo with tons of power to spare! I run it without an extension cab, and can easily cut through my 150 watt guitarist and loud, kickin drummer! I don't care for the limiter much, but leave it at about the 9 o'clock position just for a little speaker protection. The aural enhancer is great, and the E string rumble is excellent! I've played it with a Fender 15" cab, and the extra power (400w) and 15" sound are amazing. It's a little pricey, but well worth it for that rich SWR tone!
I bought this amp because it is closeout time and I love a bargain. All the accolades this amp has received for power are well deserved. There are a couple of problems I have found with this amp, though. The 10" woofers can't handle the 260 watts as well as I expected. First, when pushing them to the max, they will change the pitch of your guitar note. Second, when trying to get the maximum volume out of this combo, distortion will creep in. I try to remedy the distortion problem with the addition of an SWR 4x10 extention. It draws some of the power from the 2 internal speakers, but not enough to keep the internal from being hear over the extention. I get big sound out of the system, but it is still difficult to achieve full potential due to the combo speaker's pitch bend and distortion.
Shopped a lot. Have used Sunn since the 70's. This amp packs a punch. Using a Fender Jazz 5 String w/med strings no problem with the low B. Using Epiphone El Capitain 5 string with active elec no issue on active input. XLR output works as advertised to the PA. Used 15" exstension speaker for big room (8 ohm cab) doubled up the power. Easy to move. I chose to take out the back 2 casters (leave in the front 2)to get a tilt back. Need to check out this rig before you buy. Good value for the money and a compact size that packs a punch. Give the volume a push. I was surprised.
This amp is great and i love it however the one problem i saw was the not so much the amp, because i beileve the sound and the crunchy in your face tone was amazing for a 2x10 although i would add my Peavy 4x10 to it. I only got to play it at the store so i didnt get the blast it. but it is surley amazing...you just might want to get a equalixer for it because the high mid and mid and low mid arent that great.
I love this amp it is the best bass amp I have ever played its very moveable and loud. Think u need a half/full stack? No way this is louder than you'll ever need it to be!
This is a great sounding combo until the horn goes out. It is like they thought of the horn at the last minute and put in the cheapest one they could find. If I keep this combo, I will most certainly be replacing the horn with a much better one. I used my amp twice and the horn said so long.
Great sound love the price. I am definitly going to add an extension cab in the future. You can't find another combo that has the upgradable features that this has. And a open rack space.
My only "complaint" about this amp would be the tweeter/horn in it is a pile of crap. I burnt mine out within a matter of days after buying the amp, WITHOUT pushing the cabinet to it's full capacity. However, the SWR Aural Enhancer and the EQ available on the 4004 amp allow you to tune the EQ in such a way that it almost doesn't matter if the horn is working or not. GREAT power out of this amp and cabinet, and plenty of power available for a strong 4x10 or 1x15 cabinet to be added to it.
Great sounding and powerful combo amp. The eq can change your sound a lot, especially when using the aural enhancer. POWERFUL!!! LOUD!!! The horn is crap. It will be blown in days. SWR will replace it, and then it will go again. Just turn it off in back and don't worry about it. Nice feature is it can tilt back if you remove the rear casters, and then put them back in to move it around. You definitely don't want to lift this baby if you don't have to. It's heavy. I am very happy with the sounds I get from it.
