Rock solid sound. This Baby will knock your socks off. The band just loves the tone. And it will certainly cary the volume out if your outdoors or full warm body in a small club. Simple, clean sound or loud and nasty. Your choice. It pushes my 4x10 and 15 cabinets just fine..

Good amp for the money.  Read the owners manual and it will give hints for many sounds.  Enough power for most gigs.  I use this amp every week in  church.

The SWR 550X is a bullet-proof head that possesses both ample power and serious bass tone. The bonus is that it is very easy to use. You don't need to have an engineering degree to connect it to your speakers or to dial in a great tone. In fact, you would need to go out of your way to make this amp not sound good.  The quality of the on-board Subwave octave effect is comparable to boxes that cost $200 or more and it tracks very well all the way down to the low G. At that point, the lower octave produced gets down to almost inaudible levels. I have been using the 550X with my Goliath III 4x10 cab (or two for outdoor festivals) and have been very pleased with the top-end clarity, low-mid punch and super thick bottom-end. No matter if I'm using my Pedulla 5 string, Zon fretless, or my trusty P-Bass, the results are the same?great bass tone!

i bought this amp and a Goliath III cabinet off of someone i used to work with (both in mint condition) before i even heard it. i've been using SWR for about 4 years now and this new addition is a blessing. as soon as i took it home and plugged it in the tone and especially the clarity just blew away my Workingman's 15" combo amp. and it's LOUD. i only have the volume set at like 2 because any louder and my band members complain that i'm drowning out the guitars, and i'm only pumping out 350 watts because i'm plugged into an 8 ohm cabinet!!! i can't wait to add another cabinet so i can get this baby pumping 550 watts and really p!ss off the other guys :) my only complaints are it'd be nice if it had it's own transparency knob (i'm one for lots of brightness and twang) and i'd prefer a distortion effect instead of the sub-octave.... i guess i should get the 750x then.
