this cabinet really rocks. i had always wanted to play one of these but could never find one to try. i found one at a local store and compared it to an ampeg 8 10 and it was about the same volume but was a lot deeper and had better highs and an overall better tone. then the salesman walked me around the back of the cabinet to show me that just the top of the cab was plugged in. after getting all 8 10's working it was awesome. hands down blew away the ampeg. it kind of sounds in comparison to the ampeq 410 hlf x 2. trust me im not ragging on ampeq because this is the first product of mine to not be ampeg. the 8 10 and the 4 10hlf; i have both...rated 9 for value because it is a bit pricy but worth it. take out a second mortgage on the house if you are a serious bass player. rated 9 overall because this beast is heavy.better have a strong roadie or two...thanks

My FAvorite Cab

I pre ordered one of these before they came out in 2000 and once I got it I havnt used anything else. Being able to run it as 1 8x10, 2 4x10s or 1 4x10 makes it the most versatile cabinet out there. I personally run it as 2 4x10s through different pre amps and an ampeg power amp and it sounds amazing. The kick plate, rails, and casters make it quote easy to move too. Forget the Ampeg 8x10 classic Megoliath is the way to go. Mine is an orignal SWR not a post Fender so I cannot speak for the new ones.

I like it

I bought this cab before fender took over swr. I have had great luck with it and find it is like having 2-4x10 with options. I am happy with the sound it produces and it gives me a nice back massage when I turn up the amp.

Great Cabinet

By Edwin

from Wilmington, NC

Best Cab I've ever used. I use it in a Gospel Quartet where mass rumble is not required but it definaltely punches out the low end and has sweet highs. Wouldn't own anything else can't wait to try other SWR cabinets to see if they are just as good.

The best beast

SWR has outdone themselves in the creation of this cabinet! All kinds of mad tones are created by using the sweep on the back of the cabinet. The Megalioth is really tough. I have used it touring and it has handled the road fine. One very simple thing not mentioned in the other reviews is the handles UNDER the cabinet. These make it very easy for two people to load. It has hard plastic skid rails on the back so I can actually load it solo as well. The wheels are inset about 1/3 into the back rear of the cabinet as well.Everything about the Megalioth kicks serious butt! I was the first to get one on the West Coast, now everyone has one! The price went up since they became the cabinet to have.SWR/Fender I want an endorsement!

Swr's finest cabinent

By BrandonB

This cabinent has all the flexibility in the world I have used just the top half, just the bottom half, ran it full out 8x10, and used it as a dual 4x10 using two different amps. I have owned Megoliath since 2000 when it came out and have never even thought of buying anything else. It sounds awesome can handle plenty of power. and is easy to move around.

Megoliath is the one we've been waiting for!

By Musicman6020

To all bassists out there, this is the ultimate cab. With the mono/stereo option and the tweeter control for the top half of the cab, the Megoliath gives all the flexibility you will ever need. Plenty of headroom, and BOOM! Never again will my bandmates say "Turn it up bro"!

Holy Grail

By mrdominoe

I was lucky enough to snatch a 2002 model used for $600. Of course, I though it's a great value considering the regular $1500 price tag, but then I took it home. This thing is an absolute colossus. It's tight, but has enough boom to shake the walls, with enough sizzle to cut through pretty much anything. I would have gladly payed the full $1500 if I would have got it new. I've been through around 10 cabinets, but this one is going to stick

I own two (2) of the Megoliath's. I slit them, one each side of the drum riser. I have Ashdown EVO 500RC chrome preamp, BBE 462, CREST 7001 power amp. AMAIZING!! I used to have Ampeg SVT. These SWR'S ROCK!

good but not a bargin

By bass with grace

from Phladelphia

I like it. I find being able to use it stereo or monon a nice option, but if you are not planning on a custom set up you would probably be better off with something cheaper. I have gigged it 14 times and have not had any problems. I would say over all it is pretty nice but somewhat uneccessay. My bandmates hate helping me move it up stairs. yes the wheels are nice.
