Comments about SWR Redhead Bass Combo Amp:
Hey everybody out there, this is my 3rd year using this beast and the sound is extreme quality!
The low end is great but paired with my ampeg svt15e is just a nuclear bomb!
There is lots of choices and prices out there... but without any doubt if you want crystal clear punch quality sound that will blow ceiling and windows at the club, this is it. I've played over 10 brand names of amps combos and heads with a wide variety of speakers... etc.
By far and very far away... This is the very best hands down.
Expensive... yes... but you won't regret it and will be able to play everyday and abuse it for years without braking this tank!
Dont think about it... just buy this American Weapon and blow up every venue!
Comments about SWR Redhead Bass Combo Amp:
Don't expect the greatest sound if you are using a bass with cheap pups. If you own a quality bass, you get excellent sound from this little red beast with or without the extension cabinet. I played at several outdoor gigs while not in the PA and she still growled and had great low end tone. Other bass players present said the thing has got power and clarity. I'm gonna get one now that I have heard someone else playing one and it sounds good. I don't know why some have so much negative to say about it. I am a 56 year old still active musician that has played actively for over 40 years some of the best bass gear on the market from the past and currently. I play R & B, FUNK, Jazz, Pop, and Rock.
Comments about SWR Redhead Bass Combo Amp:
I have been using this little monster for 3 years without regret. Each person is entitled to their opinion about amps. Before you post all the negative comments, allow others to try it for themselves. Bassists, just as all musicians, have their own selected taste of what they expect from equipment. I like mine just like all my other SWR equipment. It works for me.
Comments about SWR Redhead Bass Combo Amp:
I've spent approximately 32 hours with this product during a number of jam sessions and at various locations. This product was tested each time with out the use of the output extension cabinet and the same bass guitar. The key feature of this item is the bass head. It's a professional's dream with a myriad of features, attenuation, effects loop, ext. cab output, etc. If you're looking for low tones go else where, but if you're in the market for a clean mid-bass jazzy sound this is your ticket. I believe the addition of low-end reinforcement is a must to complement this already professional-grade product. When compared with another brand amplifier, this product was unable to cleanly reproduce a low-end setting. It caused low-end distortion more liken to noise than musical quality. For these reason, I have given this product low scores in Value and Overall rating. It excels in professional quality of its amplifier head and build, but lacks full sound.
Comments about SWR Redhead Bass Combo Amp:
I have had this bass amp for a year and honestly its pretty solid. It has some pretty good features but it could be better(2x12 instead, 2nd channel would be nice, not cheap fuzz cabinet). Thats why I gave features a 4! The quality is there, the front panel cover is a nice touch. For blowing $1600 you would think they would make a better cabinet material instead of that cheap fuzz stuff. The value is 2.5 because there is so much better for that price range. The sound it puts out never seems to please me. I can never dial in a certain tone I want, always seems to be a little muddy (probably because its just a 2x10 and it cant quite handle the lows). Overall good but not good for the money, 3.5 overall rating. So in conclusion just go get a Mesa Boogie M6 2x12 combo, its only $1400 and its 600watts and it sounds so much clearer and punchier. Just got the Mesa Boogie a month ago, and now im selling my swr redhead on ebay. Yes the mesa is that good. If you dont want to get a mesa, you can also look into Genz Benz or even David Eden. If you have your heart set out on an SWR redhead, reconsider because there is so much better on the market. I'm just trying to stop you from making a mistake. Thats my 2cents, hope it helps.
Comments about SWR Redhead Bass Combo Amp:
I bought the Redhead to replace the Peavey Firebass 700 and 410TVX that I had to lug around everywhere. The whole thing weighed in at over 150 pounds! I loved it though because it was SOLID and reliable. I wanted to find my "final" amp which had to be smaller and lighter, but powerful enough to be heard. I also wanted killer tone (of course). The 2008 Redhead is the one! Killer tone and power in a nice manageable package. People complain about the price a little, and it is pretty expensive, but when you consider you are getting what amounts to a 650 watt amp with a 210 cabinet and a tube preamp I think it is actually a pretty good deal (having it made in the USA doesn't hurt either). One thing though, I got a little nervous playing outside shows with it so I got a WorkingPro 115 to push some extra air. Now that I am pumping the full 650 watts I have it on 3-4 with no problems and plenty of headroom. When my band is supported by a PA there are no worries though because the amp has a tube DI out. Sometimes I will actually turn off the internal speakers and just hear myself through the monitors. No worries about blown speakers. Dude, the more I say the happier I am I got it!
Comments about SWR Redhead Bass Combo Amp:
I have owned for nearly two years the original swr redhead bought new.. and I am absolutely in love.. I get compliments everytime I play out, no exceptions... If I had the dough I would have already bought this version as well. The only function I don't see on this newer model that I really appreciated on the original is the fan defeat switch. The fan automatically comes on and off if this switch is on.. but when it automatically switches on in my unit there is a small pop. Doing live shows no one noticed. And in studio I could turn the fan off while we were recording and then turn it on again while we listened to the play back. As long as this new one doesn't have the small pop I would have already sought a way to get myself this newer sexier beast.
Comments about SWR Redhead Bass Combo Amp:
This is the best combo on the market today in my opinion. I have always played Ampeg and SWR products. Everywhere our 12 piece band plays, the engineers and sound techs love what bass sound this little monster produces. I don't have to lug around my cabinets like I used to do. Sometimes I carry an additional SWR 410 cabinet and add it to get the extra wattage. I can only suggest that you try one to see if it fulfils your tone, wattage, and output needs. SWR hit this one right on the head and YES IT IS WORTH THE PRICE!!!!!!
Comments about SWR Redhead Bass Combo Amp:
I pair this little hot redhead with one of my ampeg 410 cabs and the sound is sweet. The extension cabinet gives you 650 watts. There is sweet mid range growl that is incredible. We played a gig for the Chamber of Commerce last weekend with special guests Elena Grinenko and Tony Dovolani from "Dancing With The Stars" and one of my guitar players stated that "That Redhead was growling all night! I like the sound of that SWR!"
