OVERVIEW

A stompbox that delivers a blendable amount of rich, warm, and tubey overdrive sound.

The T-Rex Crunchy Frog Classic Overdrive with Boost Guitar Effects Pedal takes overdrive to the next level. Overdrive is probably the single most important sound in the history of the electric guitar. It' also one of the hardest sounds to get right. Originally created by overloading a tube amplifier with a hot input signal from a tube preamp, classic overdrive today can be complicated and costly to recreate. Or at least it was until Crunchy Frog came along.

The world' best overdrive
Crunchy Frog was designed to be one of the world' best-sounding overdrives. Created and tuned to please the most demanding ears in rock ˜n™ roll, it delivers a rich, warm, tubey overdrive sound you just won™t find this side of expensive multi-stage tube boutique amplifiers.

Built-in boost
Crunchy Frog features a convenient BLEND knob that lets you mix your overdrive with the clean signal from your amp. A brilliant TONE control lets you fine-tune your overdrive tone to your exact tastes. Finally, you get a separate, fully adjustable BOOST function “ so you can lift that gorgeous overdrive out of the mix whenever you need to.

FEATURES
  • Tuned for rock 'n' roll
  • Produces a rich overdrive sound
  • Convenient BLEND knob for dialing in just the right amount of overdrive

Once you™ve heard it, you won™t want to live without one. Order today.

I really like the crunchy frog. I think the selling point for me was the blend feature. Because it allows me to mix my natural sound of my amp with the pedal. I love the drive of my amp, but it doesnt get enough break up. So what I do is set the amp where it is slightly breaking up. The roll off my guitar volume to a clean sound. When I want more umph from my amp ill roll the volume up on the guitar step on the pedal and enjoy. Plus it has a boost that works individual of the drive section of the pedal. T-Rex did a very good job with the pedal. The tone is very pleasing to the ear. Thank you MF for speeding shipping.

Still trying to decide on this thing.
I have had for about 2 weeks. My first impression is, it is not that great if it's going to be your only OD into a clean amp. which is what I was hoping.
It's best use seems to be to push an already over driven amp. It just don't pack a lot of gain.
Even as low-gain OD's go, this one seem lacking!
I prefer to play into a clean amp and use pedals to supply gain.
I have started putting the frog in front of another OD and using it to push the other pedal.
But it does sound pretty good that way!
The boost is a nice addition, but to my ears it seems to occur after the gain stage which I don't care for.

So in summery:
I have found a good use for it, just not what I was hoping it would be.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Crunchy Frog Classic Overdrive with Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is a very good overdrive pedal with one of the best clean boosts I have tried. If you need a pedal to boost solos or set your amp on the verge of breakup and use a pedal for that extra edge this pedal would work great for that. The OD is a tubescreamer style circuit with a blend knob like a Sparkle Drive. Very versitile. If you are wanting to set your amp clean and use a pedal for distortion LOOK ELSEWHERE. this is an OVERDRIVE not a distortion.

The Boost side just ups your signal without adding any gain. Very clean. No noise. Can get very loud. The clean boost is worth the price alone.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Crunchy Frog Classic Overdrive with Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this on Closeout. Took it home not one usable setting on any of my different sounding amps. I play Classic, New Rock and Blues. I tried to give it to a friend and he gave it back. It was harsh, and ratty. Just unpleasant to the ear. I have around 35 Overdrive/Distortion/Gain pedals and this is the worst.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Crunchy Frog Classic Overdrive with Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is one of five od/dist pedals I've owned, and the tonal quality is amazing. It's about the size of the BBE boosts grande, but has better controls than the average od/dist. I love the option of blending the clean and driven tones to my liking, and the drive itself is very warm.

Another feature I really enjoy is the boost pedal itself. It's separate from the od and can be activated by itself to boost your other effects without the drive, unlike the full drive two, which needs the drive to be activated.

My only problem with it are the foot switches. The boost switch is soft, the od is hard, and if I'm not too careful, I hit both at the same time. (More my fault than anything) still, it'd be nice to have uniform switches in the same pedal.

This is still my go to od, and it sounds amazing. Strongly recommend.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Crunchy Frog Classic Overdrive with Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I like this pedal for pushing the amp. I've used it on both a Mesa TA-15 and a Fender 100w Super-Sonic. I like to do most of my work with one channel that's just a little hot so that I can get clean notes if I back off and some break-up if I dig in.

With both amps, this pedal does a great job of pushing the amp into thick gain territory with nice edge and sustain.

The boost function is pretty good, and I use it frequently, but it's a bit noiser than I'd like. That's what put this at a 4 for me.

In general, I'd recommend this if you've got a good tube amp that can interact with it.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Crunchy Frog Classic Overdrive with Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

This thing is very smooth and is perfect for blues or jazz.It sounds like a real amp being pushed at the preamp. It's perfect for getting that dirt Telecaster sound. If you want metal or grunge you probably want something else but if you want a real 60s or 70s rock tone this has it. Personaly I don't like too heavy of a overdrive. I really like this pedal. This is a high end pedal so you are getting a great deal The boost works independent of the overdrive so you are getting 2 pedals in one. It nails ACDC sounds.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Crunchy Frog Classic Overdrive with Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I picked up a Crunchy Frog this weekend (that's fun to say). I really like this pedal. I have two pedalboards. The main one I play is huge and loaded w/ effects. I got this for my secondary / practicing at home / backup board. This second board has only the essentials (wah, Crunchy Frog, Chorus/Flanger, Phaser, Delay/Multi [Line 6 M5], and footswitch for my amp ['verb, channel]). On this board, I wanted to have boost and overdrive in one box, and the Crunchy Frog delivers. The boost and overdrive work independently of each other, and the jacks are on the top (which saves space on a small board). Not only is this a very warm and "tubey" overdrive, you can blend your clean signal back in for greater articulation. I'm running a Parker PDF60 (basswood body, maple neck) into a Bugera V22, and it sounds awesome. For less than $100, you're going to have a hard time finding a pedal that sounds this good, does so much, and takes up so little space.
