Comments about T-Rex Engineering Magnus Boutique Multi-Effects Guitar Pedal:

A simple and rugged effects board. I play through a Soldano Hot Rod 50 and Fender Bassman and wanted to kep true to their tone but enhance it without losing any attack or bite and this does it. If you want to avoid over driven mush, this is your board. 10 presets are usable and you can save 10 of your own or go "live" and have basically 4 independant stomp boxes. The "boost" button is adjustable from +0 to +15 db and lets you add a bit of volume to your solos or whatever. One negative is the tuner. I doesn't tell you the note you are playing so it works for standard tuning but I havn't figured out how to do alternate tunings. I have a headstock tuner that I use for alternate tunings, an in line tuner could work as well, but everytime you and to your signale chain you increase risk of ground loos and signal noise. I play with a great guitarist who is a stomp box addict and between his 10 boxes with different power supplies and 1/4 inch cable connections he spends more time figuring out why he has no sound or what's causing the 60hz humm, or why is a am radio station play out of his cabinet than actually playing guitar.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Magnus Boutique Multi-Effects Guitar Pedal:

I spent about 45 minutes with this yesterday. It requires a wall wart, as most devices of this size will. It is very simple in design, which is its longsuit. Pricey maybe; I don't see them passing any savings realized by integrating the effects on to us, but they hope we'll think it's worth the money.

Overdrive and Distortion effects were very useful - they have their characteristic sound, but it's very agreeable. Is the OD a TS clone? Hard to say, but it's probably better than the TS. It also stacks well with the Distortion and Booster, though you need to dial them back a bit to avoid feedback.

Delay and Reverb were more utility based. The tap tempo is very basic - I would have liked to see it incorporate various multiples (don't know the term) so you can tap out a delay that is 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 etc of the beat.

The Reverb intensity was never that high for some reason. It is definitely usable however for special spacey effects, it might not go the distance. You get spring, room, hall, and something called LTF (?). Not sure what that is - there was no manual to check.

It does give you the choice of five presets or "live," where the pedals are WYSIWYG. But if you are using a preset, you can't turn effects on and off within that preset.

This review is based only on my first impression, without manual. If there are any errors, don't hesitate to comment.

Would I buy it? In a heartbeat, if it was a c-note less. At four c-notes, I could get quality individual pedals or a more versatile multieffect unit that would give me more flexibility than this unit does. And I HATE the tuner. What a piece of junk. Really, if that is part of the cost of this unit, you should have left it out and offered a coupon for a Snark, which at two ten spots is worlds better than this thing.

I've used this unit now in several different situation and it makes my life so much easier. Instead of a bunch little patch cables I've got one nice unit on the floor without a little digital disply I can't see. The banks are cool. Its nice to be able to turn several effects on with one button. All of the effects sound great. I like the overdrive a lot. The blend control is a cool feature. The thing is built solidly and sounds great.

This beauty makes a strong single channel amp, even those without a "boost" or "solo" option, as flexible and usable as a 2-channel amp.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Magnus Boutique Multi-Effects Guitar Pedal:

Was looking to buy a new delay pedal, and came across the Magnus and realized I could get it for basically same price as the pedal I was looking at (Replica). I've had it for 3 days and it's a VERY sweet board. It's basically 5 independent pedals "sewn" together, that work like a normal effects chain (versus a multi-effects pedal with a million digital presets). You can store different effect combinations, but not the settings themselves. So if you need tons of different effect banks/presets, this may not be for you. But if want something simple to use that more importantly SOUNDS like 5 really high-end pedals (but costs much less than they would individually) the Magnus is hard to beat. Tap tempo for delay is a nice touch. One improvement: the on-board tuner doesn't display the note... it's accurate and works fine if you know you're in the note range, but a note display would be a nice addition.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Magnus Boutique Multi-Effects Guitar Pedal:

I just bought this today because I wanted a pedalboard that I didn't have to worry about cables breaking or power issues. I was really pleased with this unit. I didn't play around with it too much in the store but used it at a gig in front of 5k+ people. It got great reviews and it was really easy to operate. The tuner was a little difficult to use but the tones were great. It fits perfectly on the pedaltrain nano. I look forward to using this for many gigs in the future.
