OVERVIEW

A unique and rich sounding drive.

The T-Rex Mean Machine effects pedal is a double distortion pedal that takes the spirit of early amplifier hot-rodding and then multiplies it by as much as you want. You’ve got two channels, each with its own Level, Drive and Tone controls. Like a screaming vintage hot rod that’s pared down to the bare essentials.

There’s no easing up from clean to crunch to distort. Hit the ON switch even with drive at zero, and you’ll burn rubber. Turn up the gain and you’ll smoke every other player in town, with a gorgeous tight distortion and the most musical feedback you’ve ever heard.

One of the best distortion pedal that has ever been made. The Double Distortion pedal that takes the spirit of early amplifier hot-rodding and then multiplies it by as much as you want. You've got two channels, each with its own LEVEL, DRIVE and TONE controls, and that's it. Like a screaming vintage hot rod that's pared down to the bare essentials.

Buy it, if you want that early Van Halen tone.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Mean Machine Twin-Channel Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal does the job it is designed for plain and simple. I run it on its own straight into my console. Also use it in a pedal board with delay, reverb, chorus and wah wah as well as other distortion units. Musicians who come in to rehearsal use it and love the sound. It is used with tube amps and non tube amps and sounds great either way. It is very easy to dial in the sound you want and the two channel option is great.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Mean Machine Twin-Channel Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Really nice sound. Was the Stupid Deal Of The Day so it was a great deal. Was actually surprised how good the sound was. Bought it for when I play with bands at hourly studios on mid-grade amps but added it to my pedal board for what is basically two extra channels. I am very happy with this purchase.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Mean Machine Twin-Channel Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Got this as the stupid deal of the day, I wouldn't pay list for it...but for under a hundred, it's great! You won't be getting any clean boost here, but for a dirty rhythm & a lead channel boost; works great!
Independent channels and tone control for each is very simple, and despite limited shaping controls; you get a great sounding distortion. This is my second T-REX pedal & both seem well built and sound great!(I have the MUDHONEY as well). No frills, straight to the point, great sound, & well built...only drawback for some might be the stock price & lack of extensive tone controls, but I like the simplicity! I gave it 4 stars due to the simplicity factor, but in reality it's pretty close to a 5.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Mean Machine Twin-Channel Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Ok, so let me explain. I bought this on their Stupid Deal of the Day. The price was so low I felt compelled to buy it. Yes, compelled! I am pretty sure Musicians Friend uses some kind of voodoo magic because This is one of many purchases that I couldn't pass up. This pedal is soild, rugged, and just plain sweet. I swear I must have an implant in my brain that triggeres MF shipping department. Anytime an errant thought like "hmmmm...I could use that" crosses my mind, the shipping department must package the product and just wait for me to press the complete order button. Really, shipping is just that fast. 2 days.....2 Days! Thats all it takes. Every order I have placed shows up 2 days after I have made my purchase. Doesn't matter if I place my order at 1pm or 3am. It's still just 2 days. One could describe it as quick, thourough, expedient, but I am convinced it is voodo magic. Going bankrupt never felt so right! And honestly, their prices are so low your checking account will hardley notice even if you order 3 or 4 times a month like me. Keep up the great work Musicians Friend!

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Mean Machine Twin-Channel Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is balls to the wall distortion. Even at minimum settings this thing has tons of grit. Would be useful for hard rock and even metal I suppose. Its pretty cool to switch between two different settings. Not too useful if you just want a bit of overdrive or distortion for classic rock or blues sounds. Buy it if you like tons of distortion and want to change quickly between two different settings.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Mean Machine Twin-Channel Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal produces a great, simple distortion. The best part about it is that it is effectively two pedals in one. Instead of most pedals with two foot switches where one acts as an effect on/off button, this one has two independent effects. Here's what I mean: you can step on either switch to engage the pedal (and that channel you want) and then simply step on the other one to engage the second channel, if you so wish. You turn off the pedal by stepping on the switch of whichever channel is active. I like it because I sometimes need to go from clean, to overdrive, to distortion, back to simple clean. With other pedals, the only way to do this without investing in a separate switch is to step on two pedals at the same time.

The most important thing, of course, is the sound. This being a personal preference, I'm sure there are going to be varying opinions. I really like the sound of this pedal. I'm not really sure what to compare it to, because I have a bunch of different distortion/overdrives and doesn't sound like any of them. All I can say is that it's very crisp and tight. With gain all the way down, the pedal produces a moderate to high gain overdrive. At any other position, you get straight distortion. The level knob can get you a pretty good volume boost. Can't imagine anyone needing more gain or volume.

The only other knob is the tone. My rig tends to sound very bright and I use mostly single coils, to for me, the pedal sounds at its best with the tone somewhere between all the way off and about 10 o'clock. Obviously with a different guitar and amp, you'll get much more use out of that tone knob.

Couple of final notes: the pedal does not have true bypass, which I much prefer over a buffer since I don't use a lot of pedals or very long cables. However, the buffer on this thing seems to be of high quality, and I don't hear much of a difference in my clean sound. Also, there a tool-less battery compartment on the bottom. Again, this is king of a good and bad thing - kudos for easy access, but makes mounting onto a pedal board a little trickier.

In the search for the perfect distortion pedal I found that my serch must continue. Tinny, uninteresting sound that maybe best for thrash metal, but not really anything else....too much of buzzsaw effect and the simple tone and drive controls don't allow much flexibility.....tube screamer is still at the top of the list.....this one, well, I'm thinking it'll make a good gift.
