    T-Rex Engineering

An Effective Phase Shifter With Modern And Vintage Modes.

The Tonebug phase shifter adds a dynamic undulating dimension to your sound. Phasers have been around since the late 60s and are instantly recognizable as a signature part of many great guitarists' sound, including Brian May and Eddie Van Halen.

The T-Rex Phaser gives you everything you need for a gorgeous phased sound using just two simple controls: RATE and DEPTH. And it sounds great no matter which settings you dial in – from a deep, slow rotation to a light, "watery" shimmer.

Phaser comes with two modes: Modern and Vintage. Choose Modern for a crisp, thick-sounding phase, and Vintage for that classic analogue vibe.

Phaser is part of the T-Rex Tonebug series, a growing line of pedals that combines the classic T-Rex tone found in our high-end pedals with intuitive, uncomplicated controls – all at a price that any guitarist can afford.

I was ready to go for the MXR Phase 90, but the sale price on this one pulled me in. Plus, I just picked up the T-Rex Yellow Drive, which I love, so I'm becoming a big T-Rex fan. So far, very happy with this pedal. Volume drop was dramatic when I put it behind the OD/Distortion, but the tone was amazing. Moved it in front of OD/D and it pretty much solved the volume issue. Not nearly as dramatic a drop off (if at all). Don't have a whole lot of use for the Phaser effect, so the sale price on this one was a real bonus.

A little on the cheap side

I do like the sound of this unit but I was really disappointed with not being able to put the battery in it place. Really odd.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Phaser Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've been gigging with this pedal for about 6 months now, and it's great, not the most versatile phaser out there but turned out to be exactly what I was after. I bought this as the 'stupid deal of the day' around the middle of last year.

I live in Australia and you can get these over here, but like most other boutique brands they're very expensive for what they are (a phase 90 or phase 100 is quite a bit cheaper, not to mention the Boss PH-3 which has a far greater selection of effects). I got this from the states for less than half of the street price of one in the few shops that carry them in Australia, including shipping.

Awesome pedal but I'd only recommend it to someone if they were getting a really good deal on one, because there are similar pedals that can be had for substantially less.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Phaser Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is a very nice product--solid, well-built, sturdy, intuitive, easy to use, and providing a wide range of possible effects and shadings. Tragically, right at the moment I was learning all that, I accidentally had it plugged into the wrong power supply (a different 9-volt system that looked the same as my guitar-effects plugs), and to my horror, my new Tone Bug started to emit smoke--I killed it. But that was entirely my fault, not the fault of the product. During the brief time I got to know it, I liked it so much that I will probably have to buy another.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Phaser Guitar Effects Pedal:

I don't know why you would want to hear from someone who is almost a novice (adult learner, who started playing 4 years ago), but here it goes. I have a nice collection of effects, pretty much one of each of the basic types (at least): OD, distortion, delay, and chorus, spanning different brands. Some of my pedals are noisy (DeltaLab RD-1, sorry), few are dead quiet.

But I didn't have a phaser, which I really wanted for approximating some Pink Floyd and funky tones. I was dead set on getting MXR's Phase 90 (their cost/benefit, construction, and quality of sound are top notch), but when I saw this for less than half-price (much less than the MXR), I thought I had to give it a try.

Since phasers don't have a level pot, I was worried about signal drop and indeed, some reviewers mentioned this could be a problem with T-Rex's. Still, less than half-price, so I took the plunge hoping for the best. Bottom line: no perceptible signal drop. I experimented with placing this pedal before and after a Boss SD-1 and don't notice ANY signal drop. The amount of noise is imperceptible, the versatility of the modern and vintage phaser settings is fun (although I VASTLY prefer the vintage setting), and the quality of the build is incredibly solid.

Playing with this phaser though a Vox AC15, using an Epiphone ES339, Epiphone Les Paul Standard+ Top, and Fender American Deluxe Strat sounds great. Even with my cheap patch cables. Great pedal in absolute terms and very high bang for the buck.

This is a quality piece, very solidly built. The effect can be widely varied for freqency, depth and tone. The phaser may not be for everyone but if you want that sound the ToneBug should do nicely.

This pedal is awesome. I play all kinds of music but mainly rock. This pedal works so well without destroying my tone. For most songs I set the rate at about 11 o'clock and teh depth at 1 o'clock, this gives a nice subtle phasing sound. If you crank both all the way up your guitar will sound like a robot or space gun, but that is not what this pedal is for. The vitage switch is a nice touch for my band's style it is perfect. I haven't used the "Modern" setting much but I'm sure I will find a use for it soon. Overall, if you are looking for a great phaser to play blues, rock, or funk this pedal is great.
