I've always played amps with a reverb tank but recently purchased two Dr. Z combos niether of which have reverb. I thought I could get used to the non-reverb tone, but I found myself wishing I had it back. I don't need over-the-top, beach-crashing, surf reverb, just that "always-on" touch o 'verb that I've grown used to over the years.Well, I almost purchased a EH Holy Grail (I've played them in the past and I did like what I heard) but this little ToneBug is EVERYTHING the Grail is but much more...without any noise! It took me 5 minutes to find my setting (Spring) but the "Modern" setting is going to be fun to play with. If this made any noise or sucked any tone, my Dr. Z amps would show it in a heartbeat. This sounds like it's a spring tank sitting in the bottom of a cabinet...PERFECT reverb effect.

I was really hoping I could use this to replace the EHX Holy Grail Plus on my pedal board, but the sound quality is sadly lacking compared to the Holy Grail. The Holy Grail spring reverb emulation sounds really accurate and authentic in my estimation and I was hoping for the same here, but the sound is pretty wimpy and not very "spring-like". On the plus side, it is slightly smaller than the EHX, has a nice "clickless" footswitch and plays nice with my 1-spot daisy-chain power supply, (the Holy Grail did not, and I had to use it's own wall wart to avoid any loud background hum/digital interferance). Unfortunately though, the reverb sounds just aren't as good: the spring emulation doesn't really cut it and the "Modern" setting is way overblown, with anything above 9:00 being pretty much unusable. Also, as one other reviewer has pointed it, the pedal colors your overall tone when you click it on... giving you an overall treble boost, whereas I would prefer it to be more "neutral". Probably okay to add some reverb flavor on the cheap to your bedroom practise amp, but if you are looking for some classic 60's spring reverb sounds I would recomend you pay the extra money and get the EHX Holy Grail plus.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal makes my reverb-less practice amp sound like something much more expensive, and it has been a life saver when using house amps on gigs. The spring and modern options make it extremely versatile, and the sound is incredibly authentic. I've been using it for about a year and continue to love it.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

Just got this pedal today.I have about 2 hours with it and I love it.I have a Carvin tube amp and it has very little reverb. So I put this pedal in the loop, now I have some really deep clean reverb. You can go from all most nothing to a great surfer type echo. Also I do not get any noise from it at all. Very easy to use, setting it up is very fast. This is a must buy if your amp has little to no reverb.

Perfect

By Will Helt

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this guy because I wasn't happy with the reverb on my Frontman 212R and the Holy Grail Nano I bought seemed to muddy my sound too much. The Tonebug compliments my sound with just the right reverb. On top of it, the box itself is much more solid than the Nano I previously owned.
Though I mainly stick to Spring Reverb, the Mod is a welcome addition.
This box is very solid, the knobs and switch feel sturdy. Heavier than most of my other pedals, which I like.
I traded my Holy Grail Reverb Nano for this, have not regretted it one bit.

One of the worst reverbs I've ever used

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

Please steer clear of this pedal. Maybe I just received a bad one, but I highly doubt it. Unless you like cheesy, noisy, icy, unnatural reverb, do not even think about buying this.
This is not a feature laden pedal, but that's not really a problem.
The switch seems nice, but it stops there. Mine had roaring white noise, and the modern/spring switch was obviously wired in reverse. The pedal behaves as if it's always on, so if you want to go from dry to reverb, your reverb signal will include whatever you were playing BEFORE to engaging the pedal. This is poorly designed. The spring is okay, but not worth this price.
The construction is pretty good, but it doesn't make it worth the cost, or make up for the poor tone and poor design.

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

My effect chain is a Korg stage tuner, Vox Wah, Vox Saturator, Danelectro Chorus and this bad boy. And man oh man...This little reverb pedal can help make ANYBODY sound better. With patience and experimentation...This pedal will take you in a lot of sonic directions.....From tight classic spring to outerspace boogie. A little expensive...but, built to last a lifetime! Buy it! I'm matching this w/ my Marshall Class 5 which doesn't have reverb. Rock on!

Retro Vibe, Rock Solid Verb

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

Without spending hundreds on a mini spring tank this pedal and the Hardwire offering are the best your going to do for the money. The Tonebug sounds really good on both settings and is whisper quiet. The build quality is top-notch retro cool and the clickless switch is a really nice touch I wish other makers would pick up on. The Hardwire pedal is more versatile and offers a little more bang for your buck, but I tend to prefer the overall sound of the Tonebug. If your looking for a more or less old school style verb you simply can't go wrong with this pedal.

Great sounding reverb!

Comments about T-Rex Engineering Tonebug Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have always been a reverb fan, but my new favorite amp, a tiny terror combo, doesn't offer a built in spring reverb. So, the search for a reverb pedal began. I listened to a ton of them and bought several before finding this one. It sounds very authentic and is super easy to use. Highly recommended for all of you reverb fans out there. Goes from just a touch of reverb to surf city.

Really, really love this pedal. I was wanting something to plug into my Danelectro Honeytone mini amp to give it a bigger sound, and this was it. Really brings me back to a buddy of mine's vintage Fender tube amp and its great reverb (probably says something about the Honeytone, too). It was on sale when I got it.
