OVERVIEW

A loud, light and open design combo amp that takes bass amps to a whole new level from TC Electronic.

The BG250 1x15 ultra light bass combo amp is not only the entry into TC Electronic' legendary Bass Amp 2.0 concept, but is also the worlds™ first bass amp allowing you to choose your own on-board effect, again and again through the amazing TonePrint® concept “ in short this loud, light and open design combo amp takes bass amps to a whole new level.

The BG250 comes piled high with 250 watts of power, delivered through TC Electronic' top notch lightweight class D amp technology allowing a total weight of only 35lbs, making it one of the loudest and lightest combo amps in its class. The preamp features an ultrafast integrated 5 string bass tuner, TubeDrive, Intelligent contoured Bass Tone controls, as well as Auxiliary input and headphone output for playback and rehearsal situations, balanced XLR out for recording or live performance, and most importantly superb bass tone.

TonePrint® is a flexible effects section that allows you to decide exactly what effect you want in your amp at any given time.
BG250 comes loaded with TC Electronic' infamous SCF chorus as the default effect. However, from TC Electronic' website you can download numerous new bass effects for your amp, replacing the default chorus, with effects such as Octaver, Compressor, Overdrive & distortion, Flanger and Vibrato. Not to mention some of the best bass players in the world tailor their own personal effects tones for you to grab, all free of charge! Simply hook your amp up to your computer via the included USB cable, or even better. Beam your new effect or artist tone from your smartphone straight into your BG250 using the mind blowing TonePrint iOS and Android app.

The tone controls of BG250 features an intelligent integrated bass contour design, ensuring that each of the three tone controls always work optimally to help you sculpt your bass tone. Each control adapts their attack frequency, bandwidth and filter type depending on how you tweak the controls, always supplying meaningful bass tone responses. TubeDrive is not simply the average single stage clipping drive that is found on most bass amps. TubeDrive is a full recreation of the warm tube sound achieved only through the design of a pre-amp and power amp tube simulation stage. An optional Switch-3 foot pedal allows for remote enable/disable of the Mute function, TubeDrive and of course the TonePrint section. An integrated bass tuner allows for silenced tuning while the BG250 is muted and even features tuning during performance.

Not having quite kept up with the trends in bass amplification since I stopped playing professionally a "few years back" I was intrigued by some of the recent "ultra light" amps coming on the market like the BG250. A 35 pound bass amp? Kidding, right? I finally decided to try out the TC amp for hobby and recording purposes despite the gimmicky nature of the "tone print" feature.

My general impression after a few days of using it is that it's a nice little amp. Although it seems to be marketed toward the "more modern" round-wound type of player I found it to be rather disappointing from a tonal standpoint when using my Fender Jazz with round wound strings. With more than very moderate volume, the sound lost punch and became what I can only describe as "honky" ... I was pleasantly surprised when I switched to my little Hofner Club with its nickel flats. There the tone was quite balanced and suited to melodic playing. One could also turn it up quite a bit without losing the sweet spot as was so apparent when using round wound strings.

As to the "tone print" feature, I downloaded a few, tried them out and settled on using it exclusively as a compressor..... as I figured I would. I play bass .... I'll leave the flanging and chorus stuff to the engineers and producers.

In short, this is a nice little amp and well worth the price. Though I haven't used it in a performance situation I would warn against expecting it to hold its own against loud drums and guitar except as a stage monitor with reinforcement. It can get loud ... but it's tonal character quickly becomes unpleasant to my ear especially when used for the styles for which it is marketed ... and ...the tweet is useless as is the "tube" simulation ... in my opinion. But in a more laid back live setting it should do quite well in a small venue and is one of the best practice or recording amps I have ever used. I've no idea how well it might hold up or how well TC Electronic backs up their products so I won't rate those qualities. TC should dress this little rascal in vintage tweed, remove the tweeter and replace the "tone print" gimmick with a dedicated compressor. When certain limitations are observed this amp can sing, but it will never satisfy the SVT crowd.

Great Bass Amp!...not just loud but sounds awesome...i have been playing professionally most of my adult life and now at the age of 56 i need an amp that not only sounds great but isn't too hard on the ole' back....and at 35 lbs this amp meets all my qualifications...oh, and did i mention - - 35 lbs!...lol...i bought this amp as a backup to my GK MB210 and it has more than exceed my expectations...i've always preferred 10's but this is the first 15 i've ever played through that gives me 'my sound'...which is punchy, not boomy with enough presence to hear the notes clearly, but not thin....the new EQ on this amp is amazing...i've been using the amp on our bands house gig...no problems, plenty of headroom....i wouldn't be afraid to use it on any gig actually....

Comments about TC Electronic BG250 250W 1x15 Bass Combo Amp:

After receiving this amp, I installed it in a theatre, where three different bassists will be using it as the "house amp" for a three month run of a musical. After a week's worth of use, all three of us are very impressed with the tonal range and power that is available from this combo. In fact, one of the other bassists is planning on selling his amp and picking one of these up. Good stuff.

Comments about TC Electronic BG250 250W 1x15 Bass Combo Amp:

The tubedrive has a warm enough sound that I like. I could not afford to buy tube amps, so I decided to try this one and it surprised me. The Toneprint is a nice tool and has pretty cool sounds also. If you are like me you will still need your effects pedal to be able to use more than one effect at the same time, like compression and chorus or a delay. It sounds clean and nice at 3 on the master level. At 5, I had windows and things shaking, so it moves plenty of power for small venues. I noticed that the quality of sound changed after 7 on the master level. Maybe is because of all the things shaking and making noise too (this was in the garage, not a professional studio). But it sounded too muddy for me. Anyway, that may be easily solved with eq or gain adjustments, I just did not have earplugs handy to be makig adjustments at that level. The included tuner was a nice idea. Very convenient. Another thing that helped me decide to get this amp was the weight. It is nice to be able to move your equipment without asking for help.

Great amp for the working musician. I use this with my band for small to medium rooms. Sounds nice, and it's easy to transport. The tone print feature is cool, but not essential. I saved my favorite of each type of tone print to my iphone, so I could access them easily. The types of tone-prints available include: distortion, chorus, vibrato, octaver, compression and flanger. There are a bunch of each kind. I like the chorus, and compression effects. I'm also planning on using it with a synthesizer, but haven't tried it yet.

Comments about TC Electronic BG250 250W 1x15 Bass Combo Amp:

The amp is a great value. Sounds great. Class D, so extremely light weight for the power. Has all the nice features that you expect of a decent amp (aux in for practice, balanced line out for direct recording or PA, mute, etc.). Plus a tuner, which is really helpful. Yes, it only does standard tuning, but I only play in standard tuning. I bought the amp for my church, and it is more than adequate for a mid-size sanctuary. I have a 400 watt Eden head & cab for personal use (which cost 5 times as much), along with an original Ampeg B15 (which is worth even more), and this little combo compares favorably to both. The TonePrint stuff is a bonus to me -- I don't really use a lot of effects. It does seem to work, and the built-in chorus is nice if you're into that type of thing. But the amp is worth the money without it. Overall, I can't imagine finding a better, more practical combo amp for the money.

Comments about TC Electronic BG250 250W 1x15 Bass Combo Amp:

I was amazed with the power this amp has. You can crank it up and still have a clear deep bass sound. I have a MIA Fender 4 string jazz bass and am very pleased with the sound I get with this amp. However, the first BG250 that came to my home about 2 weeks ago had some issues right away. The first 2 days were great. On the 3rd day, the buttons that control the Tube and Toneprint functions, quit working. The button that controls the Tube feature would not shut off. This became annoying when I played songs where I did not need the tube function. The button on the Toneprint just quit wroking altogether. This was fine with me in that I think the Toneprint option is rather goofy to begin with.
I received my 2nd TC BG250 amp late last week, and I am having trouble again with these 2 options. I love the amp otherwise, but just cannot afford to have an amp that has these or any type of problem. I am going to see what is out there.

Really a nice amp. Don't be misguided by it's lightweaight, it can produce a heavy warm bass sound! I play in a hard rock / metal group. We have a classic set: Drum + signer+ 2 guitars and bass and I never push it past 5.

The tone print works perfectly. The Android App is really well done.

The only critics I have are about the tuner wich doesn't go flat and the absence of an octave up in tue octaver settings. But, for the price...hard to complain!

Comments about TC Electronic BG250 250W 1x15 Bass Combo Amp:

I bought a BG500, which I absolutely loved, but it's heavy. I'm 63 and have arthritis in my lower back and moving it to gigs was killing me. When I read how light the BG250 was, I thought I't try it (got such a deal at MF). It has the same rich sound as the 500 and I can carry it anywhere myself- it is unbelievably light! It can be suplimented with downloadable effects and comes loaded with a cool chorus feature, which I'd never thought would work well with a bass.

I have too many bass amps: 3 Peavey's, an Ampeg and an Ibanez and I'll probably be selling the others and keep the TC's. Their gear is tops!
