First I want to say that this unit is not aimed towards the "just plug it in front of the amp and play" people. This is for serious work.Features: Ok, let's start with the effects. It has the studio essentials: Reverb, delay, pitch modulator & bender(for octave lovers), flanger, phaser, chorus, tremolo & vibrato. They sound crystal clear without changing the tone a whole lot like a chain of usual individual pedals. It also has a compressor and a gate with excellent quality. On the wah and filter side, it is obvious that there will be a color change, but no worries, it is all adjustable and tweakable and u can make it sound the way u want. You will not find distortions here as TC engineers expect u to work with your amps preamp first, then ur favorite OD and Distortion pedals like a pro. Also you wont find any amp modelers as u are expected to work with actual amps, not simulations, although u can route the simulations by separate with a V amp, a Pod, black box, sans amp or any other simulator of your choice through loop 5 which I will discuss in a bit. It counts with five FX loops from which three can be controlled real time with the loop switches. These three, should be dedicated for ODs and distortion pedals. The fourth one can be programed with any effect of your preference, and the fifth one is dedicated to handle preamps, like the preamp of an amplifier or amp modelers, although FX pedals can be used here too.It also counts with a relay feature which gives the chance to switch in between amp channels. Also there is a chance to combine up to three different amps.Quality: (Things not to do)Obviously, if it is plugged in front of the amp, it will create hiss as the whole line process goes through the FXs before hitting the preamp, so plz, dont do this, plus, if u plan to use the distortion from ur amp combined with the effects, it will sound really bad. Also if you put it through the FX loop from ur amp and you have the distortion pedals working through the loops from the G system, I can assure by 100% that those pedals will sound terrible as they are not going through the preamp of the amp.(To do) The best scenario to achieve maximum quality minimizing tone coloration an hums is by connecting the guitar to the unit, then run the main amps preamp through the loop 5(preamp loop)(This loop has to be first unlocked and activated). after that, all the outputs can just go straight to the power amp section of your amp. this way all the G system will act like a high tech preamp with FX and FX loops and all the Distortions will go preamp which is the expected scenario. Try this and then u will think twice about rating this unit with a 1. I must say that there is just a bit of coloration on the bypass stage, but it is minimal compared to what normal stomp boxes do to your signal.I have never seen a pedal with that many options and it is just prefect for me. I can just move the unit an customize it however I want. Oh, did I mention I can also customize certain switches to do different other functions different than the factory ones.Price: I made an evaluation of how much it would be to have a system like this with just analog and tube pedals, routers and line selectors and y came up with big numbers, this is why I think the G system is not expensive. I mean, you pay for what you get!Overal. As I said, G system is original, rough built and there is no other unit compared to this one. and please, don't compare it with POD live XT, GNX4, Tonelab SE or zoom, or a pod pro and v amp pro because you would be talking about three very distant worlds.as I said. G system is aimed to professionals who like to be playfull with effects an routing options and is no toy.If it was stolen, I would get another one for sure!!

I love this unit when it works. I like the sounds, the programming, the design. It's a great unit! I have handled it with extreme care and it is built like a tank. I have transported it in a padded flight case since I bought it. The display stopped working after approx. 2+ years. TC Electronics requires $350 and a credit card to look at it. They only share their schematics with their authorized repair centers, so choices for service are limited. Their customer service department has not been very helpful or responsive. To me, this is off the charts for a repair, especially when I depend on the unit. I would definitely think twice about buying the G-System unless you either have another one (as a second) or have other pedals to cover for when/if it breaks. If $350 for a repair doesn't make you flinch and you can afford to be without "your sound" for 4-6 weeks until you get your unit back, go for it. As a working musician, I would expect better customer service, a reasonable repair cost and timely response from a manufacturer that designs and sells high-end quality products for professional musicians.

Comments about TC Electronic G-System Integrated Guitar Effects and Controller:
I have over 45 yrs of playing experience and have used so many brands and pedals I can't name them all.
My friend had this pedal and long story short, I bought it from him for under a thousand; I have owned it several years now and to my ears, I can say it is beyond anything I have heard OUTSIDE of the studio.
It's really hard to describe studio sounds, but I'm sure you know what I mean by it and this pedal has it - as I said above, I have NEVER heard this quality outside of a studio but you need to hear it for yourself to really grasp the depth and richness of sounds it has.
Like I have read in other reviews, my friend said it was a real headache to get it all set up, but, since I bought it used, he had already done ALL of the hard stuff and he showed me how to tweak anything I wanted changed so that was a big help but if you buy it new YT now has numerous how-to's on setting up and modifying it!!
The versatility of the inputs and outputs along with MIDI control AND the fact that you have all the electrical outputs for your pedals built-in just makes this the dream pedal to have in my humble opinion.
I would buy it again in a heartbeat!!!
Comments about TC Electronic G-System Integrated Guitar Effects and Controller:
I bought the G system as a way to simplify my pedal board. Rather than tap dancing from pedal to pedal you can program basically any type of sound that you require. This tool requires alot of tweaking and figuring it out to get it to sound right, but once you do, you will be amazed.
I use it with two amps in a stereo configuration. Running into both clean channels using the Nova Drive and Blackstar distortion. Then when I want to add more versatility I use the loops from my egnater and mesa boogie roadster and am able to switch between both amps preamps, channel switch the boogie, bring in the distortion pedals for endless tone combinations. I rack mounted my brain and have the pedals in the back. Once you take the time to make everything neat and label the cables, set up is very easy. Check out scott's gsystemvideos on youtube for ideas on how to configure the unit.
There are just to many to list.!!!
Like a Tank
Pricey but compare to all the other pedals you'd need.
Comments about TC Electronic G-System Integrated Guitar Effects and Controller:
The G System is designed for pro touring guitar players looking to manage their complex rigs. The onboard effects of the G System are pristine, studio quality and won't color your tone. The well-made foot controller allows for complete rig management including amp switching and external effects pedal control. The G-System assumes you already play through a great amp so it doesn't try to model one. It allows guitar players to plan their performance by tailoring presets created from a wide variety of internal effects.
The G System possesses more than most players require. Highly recommended for touring guitar players with large, complex rigs. Be prepared to invest in a good flight case to protect this heavy unit and high quality cables for smooth, quiet operation. Programming the G System takes many hours. For those willing to make a serious commitment in time and money, the G System delivers. The G Systems layout and functionality are truly a thing of beauty.
Comments about TC Electronic G-System Integrated Guitar Effects and Controller:
Awesome unit, however you really need to do your homework and understand how this unit works. This is not a plug and play board like most multi effects system. You need to look up TC electronics forum and read into the system and how to correctly hook it up. Most people return their units and get frustrated because they dont know how to simply set it up. One guy returned it because he had the input incorrectly selected. If you know what your doing and do it correctly this is such a great system to have. I absolutely love mine and wouldnt trade it for any other set up. Most have been reliable and will get you through hundreds of gigs with out a problem. However some can tweek out and have problems here and there. I plan on adding to my rig just because of the things the G system can do and handle, i plan on maxing it out and using every feature it offers. I highly recommend this unit.
SO many features with the G system. First off its a multiple effects unit with all of TC electronics famous effects. It also is able to talk with most amps and can switch channels. Two midi ports so you can throw in a midi controlled amp switcher or another multi effects unit. It has 4 loops so you can add some of your favorite stomp boxes to throw in the mix, also has power connections so you dont have to run multiple wall adapters. You can configure the layout and switches to your liking, so you can taylor your set up and how you want it. Multiple banks and presets so you can have hundreds of patches. It doesnt have its own distortion so you can incorporate your amps natural distortion or add a stompbox. You can rack mount the "brain" or keep it attached to the floorboard. Floorboard also has inputs for expression pedals so you dont have to run long cables to your rack.
TC electronic runs this board over with a tank and it still works. How many pieces of gear can you run over with a tank and have them remotely close to working. This is made of solid aluminum and theres not much you can do to destroy or damage the board its self. It is a computer driven system so of course you can have errors and crashes and things not go right. I have yet to have any problem with my system yet and have heard of others having hundreds of gigs with out their G system going down.
For the price this unit does most of what you could ask. Its a multi effects system, amp switcher, loop switcher, midi controller, power supply, and overall a great sounding unit. You could pay thousands more if you separatedly go out and buy the components of what this could do. This is the heart of my rig and i am thinking of buying a 2nd for a back up.
Comments about TC Electronic G-System Integrated Guitar Effects and Controller:
So flexible, so pure, so useful. TC has be making great sounding effects forever. I have used my Gsystem on numerous gigs, and it is very nice. The amp channel switchiing and midi control signals make this very useful whether I'm using my Fender Twin (Footswitch), or my Marshall JVM 410 (Midi control). Effects sound transparent and great! It is build like a tank, I've seen video where someone drove over one and it still worked. Large illuminated buttons are solid and silent. It is a little pricy but worth it, and my only complaint is that the 3rd party editor software has never worked on any of my 3 pcs. I wish TC would make an editor that would really make this even easier to set up and back up. If you want to simplify your pedal board without compromising tone buy this.
Comments about TC Electronic G-System Integrated Guitar Effects and Controller:
I have owned this since 2008, no issues. I thought it was broken once, 6 months outside of the warranty, but they let me send it back free of charge anyways, I found their costumer service was easy to deal with, although a little strange as it was all through their "ticket" system. As it turns out it wasn't even broken and they sent it back free of charge, and it was something with amp's effects loop. The quality of the effects on this unit is very very good. Everything is transparent and quite customizable. If your amp sounds good, this will compliment it, but it won't make up for a bad amp. I did have to adjust some minor things both amp side and G-system side just to get it running as before. I now use it to control all my gear. Its great bang for buck because you are getting an excellent foot controller, a loop switcher, and an amazing fx unit all in one, all with midi compatibility. I think its a very fair price. Overall great unit.

I've owned this since 2007 or so and use it primarily in the studio with a Marshall JVM410H (all from this site by the way) with a variety of guitars: Strats, Tele, Les Paul, Johnny A, PRS 513 ... and the G-System is great: tones, flexibility, effects, etc.The purpose of this review is to point current and future users to the TC Electronics web site: http://www.tcelectronic.com/ Go to the "user to user forums" and click on G-System. There are lively discussion about connections, getting sounds, setting levels, new features, etc. If you are considering a G-System (or a Nova System from TC), you can learn a great deal about how this system might work for you from really knowledgeable users. Especially read Laird's White Paper.
Comments about TC Electronic G-System Integrated Guitar Effects and Controller:
First let me say that I was discouraged at first. The manual was difficult to understand at best. Just plugging and playing is not going to get the tone you want. If you use the four cable method through the FX loop and have a half decent amp, you'll get pristene cleans and great tone overall. I can honestly say that if mine was stolen I would get another. It's a little pricey but well worth the money!!!!
Comments about TC Electronic G-System Integrated Guitar Effects and Controller:
I have had my G for a few months now and I am very happy with it. The quality of the build and effects are all top notch and the set up I have now is super clean and simple. The unit is also very transparent. I can't tell the difference between when I have it in or out of the loop. It's also awesome to be able to change presets with one switch (amp channel, effects, boost pedals, etc...). It makes playing much less multi-task oriented. I will say this however, make sure your amp has a series loop and not a parallel or you will spend your time trying to fix the problem of the levels and noise than enjoying the unit.
