OVERVIEW

British rock tones in a versatile, easily-controlled pedal.

The legendary crunch of British steel and Greenback-style speakers delivers searing blues to UK anarchy from this Anglo-voiced Tech 21 distortion effect pedal. Tough Bluesbreaker overdrive, the throaty roar of a Plexi or the ballsy smack-down of a '70s Metalface, it all adds up to a well tasty spot in your face, Brit-style. However you choose to build your stack of tone, the British guitar pedal makes for serious rockin' out.

Each effect pedal in the Character Series is loaded with the tonal DNA for a specific style of guitar amplifier. By simply twisting a few knobs, you can build those sought-after tones or hot rod your own. From rare vintage classics to roaring modern icons, every variation is delivered in the distinctive voicing of that amp style. The intuitive amp-like controls let you get your hands dirty from the get-go to explore decades of blistering tones.

Being a genuine SansAmp, the CS-BR and each Character Series pedal is way more than a stompbox. Each can be used as a stand-alone preamp to drive a power amp, a studio mixer, or a PA system, with the rich SansAmp cabinet emulation that sounds huge — even straight into a computer soundcard. Or plug them into your guitar amp to take your tone somewhere special.

FEATURES
  • Level, Mid, Character, Drive, Low, High controls

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series British V2 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal can really emulate some good jangly British cleans. When I was a kid in the 80s I did have a Marshall JCM 800 and I had to run an overdrive in front of it. This does sound close. I was running through a Mesa 5/50 and it sounded OK. The treble really needed to be tweaked as the pedal made harsh. Sounded muddy until the speaker emulation was engaged. The character knob so/so.The gain has a lot of bass EQd into it. I returned pedal. My standby is the old Boss Metal Zone. With settings around 10-11:00 you can almost get JCM 800 tone dead on.

I will use this for recording. I also use a Sans Amp Bass Driver DI. Sams Amp equipment is professional.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series British V2 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

These new V2 series pedals are FANTASTIC and my only gripe is that I wish Mr. Barta had included the speaker kill switch in the original Character Series a few years ago. I had an older model Liverpool and Brit back in 2010 but was somewhat disappointed that I had to go through my effects loop in order to get a decent sound due to the lack of a speaker sim kill switch on the early models. I got rid of the Brit but kept the Liverpool and I was able to squeeze some great sounds out of it as an EQ and amp emulator. Afterall, that's what Sansamp was originally designed for anyway. When they finally came out with the V2 series I took a gamble and bought the Brit V2 hoping it would be good enough to use as an "in line" Marshall style stompbox (speaker sim off) that could hold its own against a popular high end boutique Marshall clone pedal that I was using at the time. Needless to say, I was elated to find that the Brit sounded at least as good but also had a wider range of "tweakability" than the usual 2-3 knob boutique pedals. The Tech 21 can go from Marshall clean (a clean Marshall???), Blues Breaker, to JTM 800 and all the way into the realm of sonic madness! What's more, you have the added advantage of using it direct into a PA or effects loop of your amp as an amp emulator. If that's not enough, each pedal comes packed in a nice little tin box that you can tie a bow around and give to your wife or girlfriend as a peace offering once they find out that you have bought yourself yet another effects pedal!

I like the new Brit so much that I just bought a new Liverpool V2 so now I can get some decent analog Vox and Marshall sounds out of my Fender Deluxe Reissue. The secret to these pedals is to "nudge" the knobs, don't turn them like they're doorknobs because they are very touch sensitive. Once you get used to how the controls work, you will able to tweak them on the fly very easily. If you buy one right before a gig without first messing with it you will be doing yourself and the pedal a grave injustice.

I can't speak highly enough about Tech 21 products (Les Paul himself used a Tech 21 amp in his later years) Their products are made in the USA and I have never had any trouble getting through to their customer service whenever I needed a question answered. I am not a Tech 21 rep, I just know a good product when I see one and I certainly hope that this company is around for many years to come.

A very straightforward and good sounding pedal.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series British V2 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this to add to a pedalboard so if I had an amp problem I could just go direct and get through, It does that and a lot more. I've owned an orignal SansAmp for years and while it sounds good, it can be hard to set up for specific sounds. The Character series makes the technology dead simple and familiar to use and sounds just as good. It's a winner.
This pedal has a good mixture of features. It is well thought out and easy to use. About the only improvement might be a choice of speaker cabinets - like adding a G12H-30 voicing to the greenback voicing. The other would be a balanced out. But those are really a wish, not a criticism.
        Made well and seemsreasonably solid.
Could always be cheaper, but for what you're getting it's Ok.

        Real Marshal feel

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series British V2 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Though I am a fan of the original sansamp products, this has several features that make it better. One: the speaker emulation button. That's ultra convenient, because you don't need to mess with EQ to use this in front of your amp, in the effects return or even straight into a board. I have plugged this straight into cheap bass amps with astoundingly good results. Two: the familiar and correctly-voiced tone-knobs. Yes, I understand how to use the simple bass & treble knobs found on previous Sansamp models, but Low, mid & high knobs are familiar, intuitive and unambiguous.Drive = gain. Level = volume. Love it.You will have to play with the character knob to get a feel for it. I can't describe it in words objectively, but it changes the overall timbre, bass response and distortion curve. If you can work ANY analog amp, you can work this without any manual.Tone... all that convenience doesn't mean anything unless it sounds good. This little box sounds GREAT. It not only sounds like my customized Marshall 100 watt, it behaves like it too. Turn down your guitar volume, it cleans up. Turn up the volume and it starts to crunch. Dime the knob and enter rock nirvana.I have used this as the front end of a PA rig to play jazz gigs, then turned around and used it for rock sessions the next day. This is a Marshall in a gig-bag-sized box. No kidding. They are not paying me to say this. I wish I would have had this thirty years ago when I was traipsing around LA doing sessions. So far, in thirty years of abuse, none of my Tech 21 stuff has ever let me down. This looks to be of the same robust quality and it sure sounds authentic. If you are a metal head, you might prefer the american steel version that sound more like a boogie. If you like the class A sponginess, try the liverpool model. For old-school rockers like me, this is the shiz.
