An orange-flavored retro-rocker.
The Tech 21 SansAmp Oxford Distortion Guitar Pedals lets you experience T-rextacy with the greasy grit of '70s London glam, or take it deeper and darker into paranoid vintage metal grind. Dime the gain to experience the sludgelicious roar of contemporary stoner rock pumping through a Vintage 30-style 4x12 cab. From sweet cleans to crushing distortion, the SansAmp Oxford is one juicy effects pedal.
The Tech 21 Oxford pedal's Level and Drive controls work like a traditional, well-equipped amp. Low, Mid, and High are active, providing a wider array of tonal possibilities. The Character knob is a continuously-variable control that moves seamlessly between different model voicings, covering vintage, high-gain and face-melting lead tones. The Character and Mid controls, and the speaker emulations, are all engineered to personify the specific amplifier traits and speakers associated with each amplifier type.
Tech 21 SansAmp technology captures the warm, rich, natural tones of the most sought-after tube amplifiers. Within the parameters of each model's particular design, the controls provide you with access to specific tone-shaping characteristics within the tube amplifier sound spectrum.
SansAmp products are designed to work seamlessly in both recording and stage environments. They can be used with almost any instrument, for any music style, and for multiple applications. Record directly to tape and disc or enhance previously recorded tracks. For live performances, they can drive a power amp and speakers, augment your existing amplifier set-up, or run directly into the mixer of a PA system.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series Oxford Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
After using this pedal for about a year, I can say that it's a near-perfect Orange in a box. I've been using Orange amps for a while, and am a huge fan of their Rockerverb series. I can plug this pedal into a Fender Deluxe Reverb, set it up right next to the Rockerverb, and most people would not know which rig I was using. I haven't used vintage Orange amps, so can't say how faithfully it reproduces those sounds. The vintage settings do sound very good though (regardless of whether they are accurate). It's really an excellent distortion pedal and can do everything from medium overdrive to heavy gain exceptionally well.
In terms of features, there is plenty of tone shaping available. I typically fear pedals with many knobs, but found this pedal pretty easy to deal with. It's constructed exceptionally well, and I especially like the click-less footswitch. It's not a true bypass pedal, but the buffer is high quality and I don't hear any difference in my tone when this pedal is in the chain. The pedal is also pretty quiet, even when using a lot of gain.
My one minor gripe is that the battery compartment, while tool-less (kudos for that), is on the bottom of the pedal. So, if you're thinking of using this pedal on a board, you may need to detach the plastic battery housing and then cover the opening with Velcro.
I tried the direct output feature only once, so I can't really comment on how well this feature performs. It is very nice to have the option to plug into a PA if your amp ever fails.
As a dirt pedal, it's one of the best I've ever owned. Allows me to go from Fender clean to Orange OD/Distortion on one amp. I would definitely get another if this were lost of stolen.
