Tech 21

The Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 Tube Amp Emulator costs less than the original Sans Amp, and it's easier to set up. So they compromised on sound quality, right? Not as far as we can tell! GT2 purrs and screams with the same kind of fat, warm, glowing-glass sounds heard in the original, but cost-effective manufacturing brought the price down. You select amp type, modification, and mic placement. Find the tone you want using high and low EQ, set your level, dial up distortion with the drive knob, then hit the "on" switch. The Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 is a truckload of tube amps in just one pedal!

I've been searching for a simulator that was good enough to just use for practice with my bands, so I wouldn't have to pack my amp around everywhere. I've been through all the digital modeling stuff; Line 6, Vox, Boss, Digitech...... while they all had some positives they were just lacking in feel, and the Line 6 has serious latency issues. This GT2 will not replace your favorite tube amp (I'm just in love with my Mesa Boogie) but it sounds surprisingly good. I've tinkered with it quite a bit now and while it is very versatile it seems to sound best, to me, in the medium gain Marshall kind of sounds. (think old-school Rush, AC/DC, Cream, etc...) All in all I am very impressed with it. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a way to lighten the load.
Huge variety of tones you can get from this thing. Very versatile.
It's Tech 21 so it's built like a tank. No worries about quality.
Compare the price of this thing to the price of everything it simulates and it is an amazing value.

This pedal definitely has good amp modulation, but I had mine for just over a year before it broke. I took it in to the shop and they told me that the circut board would have to be replaced, which costs roughly the price of the pedal itself. I'm now using the pedal by that jerk from Godsmack or Disturbed or whatever and it seems a lot more solid and hasn't broken in 2+ years. The Sansamp is certainly not worth the money, unless you baby it, which I won't.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 Tube Amp Emulator:

While this is a modeling pedal intended for recording, I find that it works equally well for live performance. The output which has some compression on it, produces a lush, quality tone that fills the stage -- without being too piercing. It may take some getting used to if you have not played through a compressor much. I use it with a Brit made AC30TB. Definitely, it should be used with a clean amp. Let the pedal do the work.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 Tube Amp Emulator:

Great recording device. Sounds great thru the front end of tube amps. Clean sounds, classic rock drive and hard driving distortion. This pedal covers it all. I wish it had a low impedance output, but it still gets a 5 star rating. Try it, you'll like it.

        Great Pedal

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 Tube Amp Emulator:

This pedal will give you great tone for recording or even live. It gives a lot of clarity and character to your instrument's tone. I've used it for recording both electric guitar and electric mandolin. The analog signal gives a definite pick-me-up to both, much better than any digital solution. For the price, they should have included a power supply. I'm afraid of wear and tear taking the battery in and out, since the chip board is also exposed when you take off the battery cover.

        Incredible tube amp simulator!

        By OldGuitarGuy

        from Winchester, VA

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 Tube Amp Emulator:

First of all, I'm surprised at how many people think it's a "distortion box" and are plugging it into their amps like one. That's NOT what this is - it's a tube amp simulator with a speaker cab emulator built in. It's designed to be used straight into a mixing board for recording or through a PA system INSTEAD of an amp, not with an amp. When used properly, it sounds EXACTLY like a cranked-up tube stack. No joke! There is nothing solid state about this sound from this thing. I play a cheap Mexican strat with DiMarzio HS-3s and I can get a MESA "rectifier" tone from this. The designer discovered what it is about tube amps that make them sounds that way. He's not giving out his secret, but he did say it's NOT the tubes. He knows what he's talking about, because this thing sounds exactly like one when used as a direct box, the way it's intended to be used.

        old gt2

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 Tube Amp Emulator:

I have the old version of the GT2 from early to mid 90s and it is a great analog amp modeling effect. It sound realy great with my tube amp and gives it a little more clarity and sustain. One thing, it can create the sound of various amps but only if your running it through an amp that has the frequency dynamics. For example, It can't get a true SRV type tone through an amp that emphasizes the upper mids and has no bottom. Nevertheless, this was the deal before digitech invented the digital modeling processors for amp modeling. Because it's analoge it works great with my tube amp.

        Great pedal !!!!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 Tube Amp Emulator:

This is by far one of the greatest pedals I've ever bought. To me it sound far more better than any of the other bigger names!!!You can posssibly get any tone you want at any volume and the noise level is also very less compared to others. The only thing is that you can't store incase you want different sounds so you'll have to tweak everytime you want a change in tone. But ofcourse it's an analog pedal. That is why I am considering to upgrade to the PSA where you can also store your tweaks. But the GT2 will also always be in my arsenal whether as a backup or whatever!

        AWESOME!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 Tube Amp Emulator:

this thing is the bomb! i got it about a month ago and it has improved my overall tone on and off stage. no matter what kind of amp you have, this little "god box" as my bassist and i have one (he has a different model for bass) can make tones form anything from blues to the heaviest metal you can think of.
